Airbnb does not care about you or your safety

I have had the worst experience of my life with airbnb. I went to to accommodation which I booked for an entire month. The place had great reviews, but when I showed up the host was very obviously on drugs and then entire property wreaked of crack cocaine. I was concerned for my safety given that the host showed erratic behavior and was filthy and under the influence of substances. I left immediately and returned the key. I have spent two days trying to get in contact with airbnb to get my money back, but I keep getting directed to a call center that has no capacity to help me. I have been asked to provide evidence of a smell which is ridiculous as well as provide a video or photo of the host. Obviously I was unable to video the host as I was concerned for my safety. I have been told multiple times by Airbnb that I will hear from a safety specialist and then have not been contacted. I waited all day for a call never came. Then I called airbnb again and they said the specialist would contact me momentarily and they never did. They keep airing me. This is the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. No have absolutely no concern for guest safety, they only care about revenue.

Completely crap they change the price once you click booked

Completely crap I've only used air BnB 3 times. And the 2nd time in 2025 once i engaged with the host. The very next day the price went up €230. And when I complained air BnB did nothing to help. And yesterday 2026. We looked at a place in Rosslair once again the price said €881. So a few hours later when I clicked book the link from the host. It's €968. And when I messaged the host. She said it's nothing to do with her. It's air BnB. Watch there deceiving people and exploiting people. Robbing people I have no trust or confidence in air BnB. Discraffull. And I can proof what I'm saying. Watch out not an honest company. I bet you they won't even respond

Zero guest support in host's last minute cancellation

This was, hands down, the worst customer-service experience I’ve ever had with a travel platform, and it has completely destroyed my trust in Airbnb.
My host cancelled 48 hours before check-in, leaving me stranded right before an international trip. While Airbnb refunded the original amount, everything that followed exposed how little protection guests actually have when things go wrong.
Airbnb Support was completely unable to secure a replacement stay, unsurprising given the timing. What shocked me most, however, were vague promises of a compensation to book an external hotel and they "would see the could do AFTER I booked and payed fot the hotel". I was repeatedly told to book it at my own financial risk, with no guarantee of what Airbnb would reimburse. Essentially, Airbnb placed the full burden of their failure on me. Note, that a hotel booked 2 days prior to arrival in a sold-out destination features an unreasonably high cost.

The final offer from a manager was a “goodwill” payment of just €51.44 — barely 20% of the original reservation. It didn’t meaningfully cover the alternative accommodation, which was much higher that my original booking due to the extremely late booking, and it certainly didn’t address the fact that my non-refundable travel tickets became useless because of the cancellation. The entire process was dismissive, inconsistent, and incredibly stressful.

What this experience makes painfully clear is that Airbnb’s policies offer almost no real protection when a last-minute cancellation happens. The guest is left scrambling, paying out of pocket, and absorbing both the financial loss and the emotional fallout — while Airbnb hides behind vague policies and hollow “support.”

If you’re considering booking through Airbnb, especially for important or non-refundable trips, I would strongly advise reconsidering. In a real crisis, Airbnb will not step up for you, and you may end up far worse off than if you had booked directly with a hotel.

Formal complaint against Airbnb Ireland UC – misleading listing in Spain

Reservation HMYYY8HQXM – Barcelona, Sep 12–Nov 11, 2025.
The apartment fails to meet the Catalan legal habitability requirements:
• bedroom smaller than the legal minimum,
• bathroom of 2 m² without ventilation,
• total surface only ~45 m² vs. 60 m² advertised (later changed to 55 m²),
• kitchen not as described, and mattresses in poor condition.
Despite providing photos and requesting the habitability certificate, Airbnb closed the case without requiring the host to prove compliance.
This demonstrates Airbnb Ireland UC maintains and benefits from listings without verifying their legality, while still collecting service fees from both host and guest.
I have officially filed a complaint with the Catalan housing and consumer authorities, and I will not authorize any further payments beyond Oct 12, 2025.

AI replaces Customer Service recepie for disaster

Another one of the companies that will run itself into the ground due to using AI for customer service and lying about it. So i am a host (superhost) i received an email that my listing is at risk of being removed and all this because of one single 2 * review. Keep in mind to be a superhost you have to receive 90% of your reviews above 5* and i have hundreds. I contacted custmer support and explained the review was left due to a neighbourhood doog barking and out of my controll. They said i need to submit a form for review removal and get this "a team" will review it. I submit the form and lest than 1 minute latter i get rejected. So no team, no review, lying to a lont term client with multiple properties suing AI (and obvlisly not a very good one at that) to solve human issues.

Stranded in a foreign country: airbnb is a scam

Airbnb is an absolute disgrace.

I booked a place that was unsafe, dirty, disgusting, and completely unfit for human living. When I immediately reported it with full evidence, Airbnb left me stranded outside, homeless, in a foreign country with no place to go and no help.

Their support is pure garbage — hours of “we’re checking” lies while I sat outside in the cold. No supervisor. No rebooking. No real support. Only cheap copy-paste apologies from clueless chat agents.

I had to find my own hotel, spend my own money again, and survive without any help from this fake platform.

Airbnb does NOT protect guests. They protect dirty hosts and take your money while abandoning you when things go wrong.

I will NEVER book with Airbnb again. They are scammers hiding behind fake promises.

If you value your life and safety, DO NOT USE AIRBNB.

This is not just bad service — this is a dangerous scam company.

Artificial Insanity

I am a host. It's over 2 months that they hold the payments of 3 bookings. The assistance is inefficient, inadequate, frustrating: they ask for a document that I sent them several times, and every time they ask for the same thing as if I didn't send it. I think this service is managed by A.I. But beyond them there is an Artificial Insanity. I say this because don't want to think to a worse reason: holding the money you manage on behalf of someone else in my country is a crime

Travelling abroad with airbnb

Trying to loggin to my Irish airbnb account from Argentina using my argentinian phone number as proved to be a very frustrating experience. The confirmation codes take so much time to arrive that they've expired by the time you get them.
And of course there's no one to talk to.

Avoid Airbnb. Crazy hosts. Bad customer service

I had a terrible, crazy experience that luckily ended with a full refund. However, the host who intentionally lied and tried to frame me for harassing her staff and refusing to leave when I had already left and had proof (i hadn't spoken to staff) still got paid. I said I should have been paid for that if you paid her.

The manager I spoke to was terrible. He had all the evidence and times of the messages. Showing she was lying. And just said, she was asking you to stop harassing her staff. (There's proof I wasn't there) And they had the entire conversation screenshots.

My honest review of the situation was removed. This woman was dangerous. Elly / Elena Canggu Bali. Bug free room. She deletes listings with bad reviews. All her listings are new or have 2 reviews. After 11 years.

They kept her review live even though there was proof she wanted to frame and lie about me.

Terrible customer service for hosts!

Terrible customer service for hosts!
Airbnb for some reason won't accept my address, it's nothing out of the ordinary just a house on the main road that has stood since the 1800s but Airbnb's website says no so trying to get any sense out of the Airbnb support team is even more frustrating, they eventually try and update the address for you from there end after making you feel stupid like you didn't do it properly then tell you it will take 24hrs to update them 24hrs later it's still showing in the wrong place so you go through the same process with them again having to re explain the problem, having them accuse you of putting the wrong address in etc for them to change it from there end, wait 24hrs still in the same boat and the cycle continues! Anyway I've given up and trying other platforms which is a shame because we really wanted to use Airbnb but no point at all if we are advertising in the wrong area

Be careful: AirBNB has access to your bank card

In September I paid a stay for my son at an apartment in Barcelona from AirBNB.
During the stay, it appeared that the middle support of one of the beds was broken. My son contacted the owner who said it was no problem, and probably caused by previous guests. My son accepted the uncomfortable bed, and the bed bugs that later appeared to be in one of the other beds. However, after his return my son got a message from AirBNB, asking for money for the damage to the bed. Because my son didn't cause the damage, we refused to pay. After some communication, early November AirBNB simply sent my son a message saying they took 79,5 EUR from my bank account to cover the damage on the bed. This money is indeed taken from my debet account without my permission. I am shocked that a company like AirBNB simply can take money from my (debit) account without my permission. For reasons of completeness, I add the last answer from AirBNB (translated from their flawed Dutch). In short, they say my son should have taken picture from the bottom of the bed, before he slept in it. Too crazy for words.
'We realize you don't feel responsible, but when you log in as guest you agree to pay any damages during your stay. Because you cannot provide us with pictures of the items at the start at your stay, we were forced to proceed with collecting your money.'

Hosts be careful of support agents

Hosts be careful, there is a new practice in Airbnb Support. They allow and encourage guests to lie on references.

One of my guests lied on his reference and I had all written in the chat with him. He wrote a complete different story. I called the guest a liar and requested him to be truthful in the future. And the support told me, that because he is an american and he called first, to complain about me calling him a liar, a note of harrassment was placed for internal purposes in my profile. Calling a guest who intentionally lies to damage the host reputation is harrassing him? In that case why doesnt Airbnb block the conversation after the guest has left a reference?

Disappointed with Airbnb's Lack of…

Disappointed with Airbnb's Lack of Accountability and Unfair Practices

I am writing this review to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Airbnb and their unethical business practices. As both a host and a guest, I have experienced firsthand how Airbnb unjustly takes money from hosts, fails to protect users, and consistently shifts blame onto others to avoid responsibility.

As a host, I have had funds taken from my payouts without any reasonable explanation or valid reason. Airbnb's customer service was unhelpful and did not provide any meaningful resolution. It is clear that Airbnb prioritizes profit over the well-being of their hosts, showing a blatant disregard for their partners.

Furthermore, as a guest, I have encountered numerous issues with accommodations that were not as advertised or were unsanitary. Despite reporting these issues to Airbnb, they consistently sided with the hosts and refused to take appropriate action to address the problems. This lack of accountability demonstrates Airbnb's failure to protect their users and uphold their responsibilities.

Overall, my experiences with Airbnb have been disappointing and frustrating. It is evident that Airbnb is more concerned with maximizing profits than ensuring a safe and fair platform for both hosts and guests. I urge others to be cautious when using Airbnb and to consider alternative platforms that prioritize integrity and transparency.

A company that has simply lost the plot…

A company that has simply lost the plot ...and it's principles of home sharing and warm hospitality. I used them for 10 years as a guest and now when I search I am fed exclusives of island stays for €500 a night or asked to bid for a evening with a Bollywood star??
When I started hosting from my home in 2019 I only listed on Airbnb and business was fine for a newbie. It grew for 2 more years.
Then in 2022 declined badly despite a great 4.95 rating. Last two years no one books. Other sites have gratefully fill up their short comings.
Lost the plot comes to mind. Speaking to other hosts they all agree.

i wish i had read these reviews before…

i wish i had read these reviews before booking my accommodation through airbnb. Booked a lovely cabin near to where i am doing a work course weeks ago. looked like everything had gone through. got verification codes an email saying the home was waiting for me all seemed great. I was concerned when i had not heard anything back less than a week to my visit so tried to find my booking. I an=m new to this and wasnt sure if i made a mistake. or set uo a second account by mistake . so got intouch with their customer service who did very little to help. I asked could they contact the host as customers dont have contact details and they said they can not. I was absolutely bemused by this. so i contacted our bank it said they had not taken any money yet but had been i n contact like a hotel would and still could take the money. And the bank cant cancel as we gave the details So it looks like my booking went through on some level or the bank would have no transaction. I am now in the position that i cant book anything else on the off chance the host has our booking and is going to take the full balance out by our arrival date. and no one can help me. I am at a loss of what to do and was just getting the usual scripted parrot like answers from there customer service. I have spent most of the day on this and its just not good enough. Have no companies got customer service these days ???

Shocking customer service, total lack of empathy

Booked an Airbnb. Clicked on "Pay part now, the rest later" to pay 50% up front and the rest later. Airbnb accidentally took the full amount. I immediately complained to Airbnb the next day but they there's nothing I could do about it.

I did my own research on their T&Cs and found out there's a 48 hour grace period where I could cancel at no extra cost.

So I did this and rebooked. Now in the new booking, the option was changed to "Pay 95% now, the rest later". I was disgusted and complained again to Airbnb.

Meanwhile, they have charged the full amount twice (the original booking and the new booking) but meanwhile they tell me that it will take up to 15 days to get the refund.

And if Covid restrictions make it impossible for me to go, then I don't get any refund whatsoever.

Every time I raised an issue, no help was offered whatsoever. Absolutely disgusted with this behaviour from a brand that I used to admire.

A total lack of empathy from the customer service team and a brand that has gone down so much in how I regarded them.
