Terrible interface, no customer support/ no support email address, overall looks like a shady/abandoned company/software.

Trying to get started with the Free Cloud version. Where are the Instructions? I got the Welcome email but it just keeps taking me back to the Create your Company page - even after filling that out multiple times. I can get to the Dash Board page but there's nothing there. I click Start on the Dash Board page and it takes me to the Create your Company Page - it never goes to the "Next Step" Do I have to buy an App to make this work? So frustrating!!!

We're experimenting the open source version of Akaunting

As it was built using technologies like Vue.js and Laravel is making it easy for web developers to create modules that add new features

Through the use of Crowdin it is easy for anyone in the world to send translation contributions for any language

The software works very well. I have had some difficulty with what "Items" are, and I don't like that invoices can have two types of revenue on them but the whole amount is credited to one revenue source. But the software is free and it basically does what it is supposed to do.

I would suggest that the help documentation needs some work done on it. It can be very vague.

The Akaunting free version is a great option for start-ups and with reasonably priced add-ons, it can grow with your business. However, the support is hit and miss which is a shame, especially if you're on the free version

I am using Akaunting by installing it on my own server and serving my client. The important feedbacks I think you people need to fix is its performance and backup And restore feature.

I had been looking for software that can do invoicing as well as my accounting stuff like adding receipts and other expenses for my business. This does it all and the best part it's free to use, I have given my accountant user access and he is very pleased with the software. Another bonus is this is a web app, I can access this from any browser mobile or desktop,

Stay away. Wont type more. Waste if effort only

First, if you want a modern business accounting webapp (like quickbooks online) but you want to host it yourself and keep your data on your servers then Akaunting is really the only option I was able to find. If you don't care about that then I recommend you use quickbooks online rather than the Akaunting hosted service although it may cost more.

That said hosting Akaunting yourself is NOT a trivial exercise and NOT for end users. You must be experienced with linux, IT, and servers and know about docker containers and how to spin them up and manage them. Otherwise don't try it and don't complain it doesn't work.

For example I wasn't able to get the apache based version to work so I had to spin up the fpm version with nginx. I use my own external reverse proxy for https (caddy). Don't know how to get that rolling, then don't even try. The docker repo is actually pretty good for getting that running. It is true that until you buy a plugin you don't have access to their ticket system. Their "forum" is clunky and you may or may not get any help from the akuanting staff. As was pointed out helping get a potential customer up and running with the base code is how they can become paying customers. I'm guessing they really want you to host with them but as I mentioned quickbooks online may be the better option if don't care who may be looking at your data.

The base code is open source but the add ons are not (albiet you can see the code once it's installed). They make money when you buy the modules. Nothing wrong with that. Once I was sure it was going to run ok I purchased the double entry and that worked fine. I also bought the custom fields module and that had issues creating the database tables it needed. I was able to use the ticket system to provide them logs and within a week they had a fix. The ticket system itself is horrible. It most times doesn't post what you write. You can't use markdown. The automated part closes your ticket before it's actually resolved to your satisfaction. Attachments cause post to fail. All in all the ticket system stinks.

So the webapp itself isn't too bad. It's not as capable as quickbooks but for our use (a small non-profit) it's sufficient with the double entry and custom modules ($110/year). We do wish it would do splits but apparently they are working on that. We don't have very many banking transactions a month so we have no need for automated xfer of those thus I can't comment on those plugin(s). All in all it's good for a small company or organization with not too many transactions a month and no need for super fancy reports. The up side is TOTAL control of your data. I even have phpmyadmin running and can root around the mysql tables if I want. It's easy to keep the current install and database backed up (I use back in time snapshots) as they are docker volumes (once again you MUST know about docker).

So
4 star software, repos and plugins
4 start customer service (after you have paid for a module)

so I'm giving them a 4 star for that and being the ONLY self hosted business accounting webapp.

But do note:
1 star ticket and forum systems, clunky and many times don't work.
1 star billing - no way to change or remove your card number (cancel) once you enter it! I used a paypal debit card so I have more control over charges.
2 star business model doesn't cater to self hosters - it could be more like nextcloud and other great open source projects where self hosters drive improvements which then improve their hosted/enterprise offerings.

Akaunting is a totally fraud and scam organization working in the disguise of the account service provider. They charge your card illegally and when you request a refund they simply refuse. They have accounts related apps, full of bugs and errors. STAY AWAY from these scammers.

Horrible horrible software, it says its free, but its not!
When you install it, it dont even have double entry which means its an accounting software without any legs, and everything you need to buy.

I bought the double entry and white label then realized its full of bugs, obviously I do not want it anymore. and guess what, they auto bills your card after 1 year. (yes you need to pay 1 year for everything), and after e-mail them tell them I no longer use it, they would not refund it.

I had to call citibank to dispute the charges and cancel the card. Alot of trouble this company has caused. User beware!

Honestly their software is very weak - and not really possible to test before you have purchased it (except for the free very basic CRM functionality).

I decided to test the double entry book keeping module - and was ready to pay a little to test that. (Of course I would have liked to test it before I purchased it - but that was sadly not possible).

The features within that double entry book keeping module are also minimal - really nothing I could not put together myself with 3 database tables.

After testing for some 30 minutes I dropped it. A disappointment and some 70 Euro lost.

Then a year later - I receive an email that my "subscription had been renewed" - and charged on my credit card.

I contacted them and they are not willing to reverse this unannounced subscription (or at least not clearly stated). And hence the payment.

I guess there are some good intentions at the bottom of their work, but the product is weak. And their business practice, I'm afraid to say is greedy and short sighted: "We have our hand in your pocket and will pull whatever we can".

Signed up for free version and purchased an app. A year later they re-bill me out of the blue, saying:

“ We're writing to let you know that your subscription for … has expired.

To renew the subscription, we've tried your credit cards but processing failed due to the following reasons:…”

I did NOT sign up for a subscription and there is no credit card linked to my account. Thank goodness my bank suspected fraud and denied the charge, afterall, that is exactly what this was - FRAUD! Will not be using their software anymore.

They remove any criticism from the forums and provide opportunistic answers (= lies) to users to get money out of them.

To a person who asks whether the self host has any limitations they say: "No, there is no difference. Our business model is App Store so we don't limit the core features." - Admin

While to another person asking if one of their core features (Bank Feeds) are available in the self host setup they answer: Some core features like Bank Feeds are only available in the Cloud version which has to be paid monthly. - This is paraphrased since they deleted any evidence.

They also deleted all my forum entries about this topic and informing users that there is in fact a difference.

No self respecting person or company would give their financial data to such a shady business.

This is a scam company. They will offer a free account and as soon as you set it up they will delete it. The company is located in Turkey with very poor customer support. Don't waste your time with akaunting.com.

Akaunting is strong to present its products. Unfortunately there product only works for a limited time. In June 2020 the woocommerce plugin was bought, and Akaunting stated it would work a lifetime without further payments including updates. Starting 2021 (after 6 months) the plugin dissapeared from my account and can't be installed again. Making a ticket is impossible due to the statement that the product wasn't bought. Sending emails to get this fixed are useless because you never get an answer. And still they are sending ads to try to lure customers to buy their products. Please don't. It's a waste of your money, effort and time.

⁣Bad product and worse service

it is a total waist of money. No support at all. The author will refer you to the community forum where there is no issue solved. App purchased can not be reinstall, you will have to buy a new one. ( I am not saying: install the app twice on different server or hosting) Their update always crashed and you will have to reinstall the whole script and the purchased app as well.
