Akra is a handmade jewelry workshop and shop at 13 Abano Street in Abanotubani, the old sulfur bath quarter of Tbilisi, Georgia. We have been making jewelry here since 2018. Giorgi Shataidze cuts natural stone by hand and sets it in 925 sterling silver. Every piece is made in his own workshop, from the first sketch to the finished jewelry. Nothing is mass produced and nothing is bought in from a factory. Two Georgian crafts are held in one pair of hands here: natural stone set in silver, and cloisonne enamel, known in Georgia as minankari. Giorgi makes both himself. Minankari is one of the oldest Georgian crafts: a drawing outlined in thin silver wire, then fired in a kiln again and again until the color reaches its full depth. Stones are chosen one at a time, by hand, not bought in bulk lots, so no two pieces are alike. We work with malachite, jade, lapis lazuli, obsidian, amethyst, aquamarine, labradorite, moonstone, rose quartz, black tourmaline and more. Shipping is free worldwide and tracked, and returns are accepted within 30 days. Custom orders are welcome, and a piece can be built around a stone you choose. The workshop in Old Tbilisi is open daily, and visitors are welcome to watch the work in progress.
