Got Alba Tuning out a few months ago…

Got Alba Tuning out a few months ago for a stage 1 remap on my Golf GTi and an economy remap on my work van a transit custom.

Shaun turned up 5 mins early and answered any questions I had, very knowledgeable guy compared to other tuners I have used in the past.

The golf has a lot more power but still sticks to the road very well, I'd say as long as I'm not booting it I'm saving a bit on fuel.

My transit custom is a lot more nippy and is saving me around 20% on fuel, I drive around 100miles a day so it's a good saving over the month.

I've waited a few months to leave this review so I could give a fair review as I have used a few different companies for my cars in the past but can say I will definitely use Alba Tuning again

Bricked my vehicle and ran away

Found Alba Tuning (Shaun) on Google. Got him out to resolve an issue with my vehicle, paid deposit, communicated via text and email etc, certainly a positive interaction to begin with.

He turned up on time to begin work. He presented well and was polite and professional.

Unfortunately, he bricked the ECU and left without speaking to anyone. Left the vehicle insecure, with the bonnet open and the keys in the door bin.

Initially assumed he had gone for lunch or a part but after countless rejected phone calls, ignored messages and emails I was left with the only conclusion he had broken the vehicle and had ran away from it.

Required to get the vehicle (a 3 ton minibus) recovered to my home (at great personal expense) and have had to get another company to come and remove the ECU with a view to repairing or replacing.

All in all, thanks to Shaun’s efforts, I’ll be the best part of £2,000 out of pocket.

I completely understand things don’t always go to plan but to run away and become uncontactable is a total embarrassment.

I have been left with no option but to pursue the matter via trading standards and our solicitors and to both parties I have provided Shaun’s full details.

Predictably, I have been blocked by Alba Tuning on Facebook but I intend on sharing my experience and details of the associated disappearing act with as many people as possible.

I am always extremely reluctant to provide public negative feedback but the unwillingness to discuss the issues or find an amicable resolution has left me no alternative.

With the above in mind, no, I absolutely do not recommend Alba Tuning.

Andrew’s Garage who recovered the vehicle- great service, highly recommended.

UPDATE
The review below from David is in reference to my experience and what he says is exactly what has happened. I called David for advice and assistance having been left in the lurch by Alba Tuning.

Shaun’s response to David’s comments below are completely false, what David is reporting is exactly as events occurred and I have a dossier of evidence to corroborate this.

Unsurprisingly, I have yet to have any message, phone call, email or other correspondence from Shaun. Zero attempts to resolve the situation have been made and this is now clearly a matter for legal resolution.

Additionally, this review was flagged as “wrong business” by Alba tuning which just continues the awful and if it wasn’t so expensive, laughable experience this has been.

RESPONSE TO COMMENT FROM ALBA TUNING

Ah, it’s yourself Shaun, thanks for eventually replying. Disgusting that’s it’s taken an online review to actually engage you in conversation.

Unfortunately for you, I am not a fake customer and I am more than able to evidence our entire transaction.

This evidence includes but is not limited to the following

- full transcripts of email correspondence
- full transcripts of WhatsApp messages
- records of calls made via conventional telephony in addition to WhatsApp calls all of which are NOT responded to
- record of deposit paid to you via bank transfer (I’m a fake customer but have your bank details… ridiculous)
- cctv footage of you attending to undertake the work
- vehicle registration mark of the vehicle used to attend the job
- testimony from a mobile mechanic who examined the vehicle less than 2 hours after you left
- records from the recovery company who took the vehicle from where you abandoned it to my home address
- testimony from a specialist in vehicle tuning detailing the damage you have caused and the necessary repairs

But you take this further with trust pilot Shaun, see what advice they can offer you.

You have made no effort to right this wrong or even apologise. You ran away from a mess of your doing and to compound how dishonourable your behaviour is, you are now intending on trying to lie your way out of this.

Utterly embarrassing and I’m sure anyone reading this review will be able to ascertain who is telling the truth and who is lying.

The evidence I have spoken about will be made available in local social media forums as well as to trading standards and my solicitor. I am more than happy to deal directly with your solicitor to remedy this if you can provide me their details? You have my telephone number and email address.

If your response to this is seriously “it’s a fake review” then you need to take a long hard look at your unethical behaviour

Take responsibility!

Alba Tuning - Shaun McGregor

Shaun McGregor, proprietor of Alba Tuning, turned up to work on my friend’s minibus. He bricked the ECU, left the vehicle unattended with the bonnet open, keys left in the vehicle and fled the scene, thereafter refusing to answer all calls or communications. Downright disgrace. The replacement ECU cost runs into 4 figures. Avoid at all costs.

ADDENDUM

Shaun McGregor (Alba Tuning) of Linwood has replied that I have never been a customer of his and my review is fake. That’s correct in one respect Shaun, as stated, although not your direct customer I was present first hand to witness the aftermath of your unscrupulous behaviour and the huge hassle and cost that my friend is undergoing to rectify your outrageous behaviour and incompetence. Call me a liar again and you’ll have to deal with my solicitor. You’re not in any way anonymous Shaun, even though you’ve tried to maintain a discrete online presence as to your identity, you’ve failed miserably…which is very helpful when taking legal recourse. Anyway, at least we’ve succeeded in drawing you out into replying to one sort of communication. There is a way to rectify all of this, do the right thing. Did you really think you could run away and there would be no consequences.

FURTHER ADDENDUM

So you want to double down on your lies Shaun. Fair enough, you’ve brought this upon yourself. You’ve removed the Alba Tuning livery from your Ford Transit recently and now operate it as an unmarked van. One can only guess why you would do that.
Additionally you posted on another well known social media site, with accompanying photos, that you remapped a Jaguar XF on 29/05/24…it’s your own car Shaun, parked outside your home address. Why would you have to post an image purporting to be customer car when it clearly is your vehicle? Again one can only guess.
You’re not taking anything further Shaun, you’re a rogue trader and obviously struggling badly to have to flee the scene of a botched job. Do your family actually know this is how you behave?
Contact the customer that you have wronged, he has an irrefutable electronic trail and evidence of payment to you as proof. There is no escaping what you have done.
