Poor Protection of your Financial Assets!
Be cautious when dealing with Ally Bank, especially if you need to verify your identity. Unlike major financial institutions such as Capital One, Chase, Bank of America, Citi, USAA, and American Express, Ally Bank lacks the sophisticated technology necessary for timely identity verification. I waited 25 days for assistance, during which their team was unhelpful, uncooperative, and, quite frankly, rude.
These larger banks not only provide efficient online and phone verification but also have physical branch locations where issues can be addressed in person if needed. My frustration with Ally Bank escalated when my primary source of income—Social Security—was deposited into my account every fourth Wednesday of the month. I was unable to access my account and pay my rent and other bills on time due to their lack of support. They froze my account for 25 days and made no attempt to resolve this matter in a timely manner. Instead, they forced me to open a new Capital One checking account and have all my deposits transferred there.
I have reported this activity to the CFPB and noted in my complaint that Ally Bank should pay my late rent fee. If I lose my apartment due to these delays, Ally Bank should be held accountable for the damages associated with finding a new apartment and moving my belongings. As a 75-year-old senior, I should not be facing this insensitivity from a financial institution that claims to protect your assets when, in fact, they do not.
Their only concern is with them, not you. Sound like a familiar Trump narrative. Well, it is!
Had their credit card for some time…
Had their credit card for some time without a balance going more than 30 days and they just up and cancelled the card without any notification or reason. Unbelievable. Not a bank I can trust.
Absolutely Garbage - Stay Away
My life has been negatively affected by their bank completely deactivating my account because I missed one payment. I hadn't missed a payment before this. And the reason I was using it frequently was with the intent purpose of showing that i'm a trustworthy user and to get more credit when I needed it. Now my credit score completely tanked. And when the account was initially paused, I contacted them three times in three months and was told that I would be contacted. I never was. This is beyond disgraceful.
Had several unauthorized charges on my…
Had several unauthorized charges on my account. They said they have been working on it for 3 months! They did not do anything! They do not care & would not help me! Would not credit my card back the money! It was 9 charges a total of $636.59! All the customer service representatives were very rude, had 1 hang up on me! Each one would say something different & some you couldn’t even understand. One would tell me it was credited back to your account but we can’t get you the statement.! I ended up getting on line & hit the last year of statements & there was no credit! Just lying through her teeth! Then one said it will be credited back to your account in 72 hours. Then another one the last person you talked to dropped the ball & didn’t finish the process! Heard that one a couple times! They couldn’t even explain to me what, when, where etc about the charges. But I know I didn’t make 6 charges to an alarm place! I thought maybe I did make these charges & it’s coming up something different, but I’ll never know because they don’t know how to do there job & let you know anything! They just say it was denied. You have to pay for it! Then you could tell some were not even listening, do NOT use this bank, you will regret it! Have had nothing but problems, money taken, & frustration. Then I have to pay for this that I didn’t even do! Paying for someone else stuff! The worst bank & customer service ever! Stick with a real bank that helps & cares about their customer! There’s nothing like good ol fashioned face to face! Should of listened to my husband & just stayed with our credit union that we have had for 36 years! Thank God we still have our account there! They would have taken care of it the same day! Plus they know us by first name bases! Ally Bank is the worst bank & worst customer service I have ever received!
I needed a check within the estate…
I needed a check within the estate procedure of my mother-in-law to be reissued to the name of the 2nd administrator instead of mine. The original check with my name on it was sent back by me to the bank and arrived at Ally Bank on Feb. 7, 2025, 1.21 pm. The 2nd administrator was told that it will take 2-3 business days until the new check will be issued and sent. This did NOT happen. Most of my emails remained unanswered. I had to threaten the bank with court - then they finally reissued the check on Feb. 19, 2025. This, although they knew that the matter was really urgent. Before this, I had considered to open an own account at Ally Bank, the more because I'll have to invest an amount of about $ 850,000.00 and it seemed to me that my mother-in-law's investment went ok there. But after this bad experience - and this in respect to a standard task!!! - I will NEVER EVER be a customer of Ally Bank. Worldwide (!) I've never been treated by a bank in such a bad and unprofessional way before. Even one star is too much - there's just no possibility to give 0 star.
Had my Alfa Romeo car lease with Ally…
Had my Alfa Romeo car lease with Ally Bank. Paid them on time, never missed a payment over 36 months. Paid off the car lease in full, and returned it.
Two months later, I get a bill from Ally Bank for a "disposition fee" of $450 because I did not enter into another car lease agreement with Ally Bank within 30 days.
It's buried in the fine print of the lease and is sleazy as hell. It's essentially theft.
I will never do business with Ally Bank again.
I had a 1 star experience.
Unauthorized Charges to account
Main issue is customer service related. Some agents are friendly. Some are not very helpful.
Ally randomly put bill pay on hold-no notification
Ally put my Bill Pay on hold and I have payments scheduled to go out today and tomorrow. I have a decade long relationship with them with no funding issues. According to their customer service department, it will take 1-2 days for them to lift this hold. This could cost me credit card fees and interest in addition to multiple follow up calls by me. To clarify, my payments may or may not go out sometime in the next few days. Ally cannot give concrete information. Strangely, I can write checks and use my debit card. It is only Bill Pay. No management available to fix in a timely manner. Will open an account at another bank tonight.
40 minutes for a 10 minute phone call
40 minutes for a 10 minute phone call. First, I have tried to change my due date to the 5th several times now. They say yes but just can't do it & tell me not to worry about it. When I see an account past due, I worry! Payday is the 5rh (period) I asked about refi or rewrite to lower monthly payment. They want 1/2 of remaining payments. Who has half? If I had that I doubt I would need a refi or rewrite to extend. Ridiculous in many aspects. Obviously the girl helping me was helping 10 others. She couldn't concentrate on what we were discussing & kept leaving me there napping. No customer service! The past 4 years; this economy...I hope we recover quickly.
The woman on the phone was very hard to…
The woman on the phone was very hard to understand and was not much help. I have been banking with ally for years and expect better service than that.
Not a trustworthy bank. Do not use if you need access to your funds.
For an online only bank, customer service is dreadful and for us, resulted in our financial assets (cash accounts, investments and CDs) essentially seized by Ally for months. The bank provides a friendly/apologetic generic response to contact them to resolve issues but once you scratched the auto-reply veneer, the actual service is dreadful and very concerning. Our consistent experience with Ally Bank and Ally Invest have been:
1) Each phone call takes 30-90 minutes and requires repeated identify verification with intrusive questions 2) Ally Bank REFUSES to provide a direct contact person or case number to reference the active issue without working your way through phone tree and somebody who does not know your case. 3) Subsequent calls always result in reviewing the ENTIRE history. 4) Ally refused to release our investment funds and cash for several months, eventually CHARGING A FEE TO TRANSFER OUR ACCOUNT.
In summary, Ally provides terrible service and most concerning we did not have access to our investment and cash accounts.
I needed payoff info only
I needed payoff info only. Hold/switch call and give information over to new person 5 times and 35 minutes later "Chris" got me the answer. At least 1 guy knows about service out of 5 so they get 1 star out of 5.
Slow bank card activation
I have received my bank card. I wanted to activate it online, the system said it could not find my details.
Then I called the ONLY customer service number on the website, they told me that I called the wrong number. They gave me another number.
I called that number. I talked to a gentleman, he was nice. But he was struggling to activate my account. Then he redirected my call me to activate my card via a self service phone system. The redirection did not work, so I had to call them back. Overall the bank card activation took about 40 minutes (which I thought would take me like 1 minute). It was not a great first experience.
Horrible horrible Bank bad customer…
Horrible horrible Bank bad customer service lady was very rude and disrespectful they don't care about you or your money run
Issue with Identity Verification on MMA
I attempted to apply for your money market account like 20 times over the course of two weeks. Each attempt resulted in emails stating either, "We couldn't verify your identity" or "We need more time to review your application." I had to contact customer service to be informed that the system did not process my information correctly—there was not much of my personal information in their system, despite entering it accurately. The only solution offered was to provide my personal information over the phone.
Ultimately, I chose to apply with another bank and successfully opened an account within 10 minutes. Unfortunately, this experience has resulted in the loss of a customer. Please do better
Someone used my Ally debit card
Someone used my Ally debit card, although it was stored in my safe since the day I received it, and never used anywhere.
So there must have been a data breach at ALLY bank, that the bank did not make me aware off.
This morning I received an email from ALLY that my account was overdrawn, someone bought multiple PlayStation gift cards with my debit card.
I responded within one our.
During a 30 minute phone call the bank asked me to proof that it was not me who made the purchases.
What a stupid question, how can one proof that he did not do something???
They started the process, followed by unbelievably condescending secure messages.
The bank never apologized, called it a transaction in error, not FRAUD, what it actually was. ALLY had the audacity to tell me that they would make a determination, whether I would receive my money back or not and told me I would have to complete documents.
And this despite the fact that I
a) reported it within less than 24 hours after occurrence
b) it was clearly the banks fault since they must have experienced a data breach
I am done with them
Wish there's an option for 0 stars
Wish there's an option for 0 stars. Highly recommend do not use them for anything. Used them through my franchise to fund two junk trucks. Been treated horribly by them :
- Every call last 35-55 minutes at minimum
- They will transfer you to many different teams with no answer
- No one has the same conclusion
- They will hang up on you once they read complicated history and questions
Worst bank to ever use!
Worst bank to ever use! DONT USE THEM IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE SCREWED OVER AND TREATED LIKE CRAP FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS!!!!!!
They Did Me Dirty!
Please run! Run away from this credit card company as fast as you can. Customer service, fraud, and dispute departments simply do not care at all about you. They have no compassion or empathy when you call them. They have a terrible attitude problem and will get combative. I complained about their deplorable customer service, and they retaliated by reporting my 9k line of credit as having no status and no credit history. Although I had a seven-year excellent history, the lack of status reporting reduced my overall available credit and lowered my FICO by 12 points. I called Ally and begged for their help, but they were cold-hearted and cold-blooded and just did me dirty. Please find another credit card company that cares about you as a customer and is willing to correct their mistakes.
