Amazon South Africa continues to…

Amazon South Africa continues to impress me with their outstanding service! Ordering was effortless, updates were clear, and delivery was lightning‑fast — my package arrived the very next day for only R2. That level of speed and affordability is unmatched.

I recently purchased a dual monitor stand at the same price offered by Takealot, but Amazon provided far better support and overall service. The product arrived in perfect condition, securely packaged, and exactly as described.

Amazon South Africa has set a new benchmark for online shopping by combining reliability, value, and customer care. I’ll definitely be ordering again — highly recommended!

I would not recommend buying an expensive item from them as they don't honour warranties.

I bought a curved Samsung monitor in Dec 2025. By January 2026, the screen had started becoming "uncurved" - and a long white band was visible on the top. This was only 5 weeks old, but Amazon informed me their warranty is only 30 days. I advised them that this is contrary to the CPA, but they said their terms and conditions supersede the CPA. how this is possible I don't know, but I will be lodging a case with the consumer ombud as this was an expensive item. I would not recommend buying an expensive item from them as they don't honour warranties.

"Laser Cap FDA Cleared" Blatant false advertising

"Laser Cap, FDA Cleared Laser Hair Growth Cap, Red Light Therapy promote hair growth in women and men" purchased from amazon.co.za through the supplier "The Global Boutique". Due to the middle east issues it took a while for the cap to arrive. To my dismay after all the waiting and paying over R4000, I received an LED cap. Blatent false advertising, how can the FDA clear a red LED light cap as a laser cap? Paid out of pocket to send it back to The Village Boutique and they've had it since 1 April, they have not responded or refunded, pure false advertising should be refunded IMMEDIATELY.

Amazon South Africa has my mac and money: Still Awaiting Refund for a Defective MacBook — Ongoing Since February 2026;

I purchased a MacBook (Order #408‑8682143‑0966718) through Amazon which had a latent component failure. In February 2026 it began freezing.

I shared Apple’s report with Amazon on 16 February, and on 5 March 2026, their supervisor confirmed I qualified for a full refund. The laptop was returned and acknowledged on 13 March, yet as of 1 April 2026, I still have not received repayment of R20 899.

Over several weeks, I’ve spoken with multiple agents — and have two active case numbers (D409704577 plus another opened 31 March). I’ve spent hours on hold, repeatedly told the issue would be “escalated,” yet nothing moves forward. One even admited that as of 14 March the escalation ticket has not moved one bit forward.

As a postgraduate student relying on this laptop for academic work, I find it deeply disappointing that a company promoting itself as “Earth’s Most Customer‑Centric” cannot resolve a verified faulty‑product refund after multiple written confirmations.

I hope Amazon takes this as constructive feedback, resolves my refund promptly, and improves its accountability to customers in South Africa.

AMAZON SOUTH AFRICA POOR SERVICE DELIVERY

Amazon South Africa has really poor service, they don't follow up on orders with their suppliers(SAVANNAcare), I am waiting from 19 March until today 30 March for a product that I have bought.

I must try and follow up on when this product will be dispatched, While AMAZON SA just sends emails to the supplier (SAVANNAcare) but the supplier does not even answer the emails...

In my first experience as an AMAZON SA customer I will rather warn people not to buy any Products from amazon, source your products directly from the supplier than from AMAZON SA as you will receive the correct product, correct shipment dates and believe me you will get the best customer service.

It cost me to buy the product from another supplier, now I will request a refund from AMAZON SA that will also take probably 11 years to complete as their customer service is totally crap.

So please, skip AMAZON SA and buy directly from suppliers...

Trustpilot should red flag AMAZON SA as they cannot be trusted regarding service delivery.

Four orders - three wrong products deliver

I have done 4 orders through Amazon South Africa. Three out of the four was wrong items delivered. Amazon SA customer services just passes the buck to the sellers and take no responsibility for the stock that they (Amazon) distributes (albeit on behalf of). There is no effort to try and remedy a situation and a customer is basically held hostage to re-order (and hope for the best) and then wait who knows how long for the refund of the returned product. I have sent back three items and the refund process was not quick, easy and painless. As soon as I receive (hopefully the correct) order, Amazon will NEVER see me again. I am a frequent online shopper, but Amazon now finally disappeared of my radar for good.

Even 1 star is too much

I recently tried to place my first order with Amazon, and it turned into one of the worst customer experiences I’ve ever had.

I placed my order, paid, the transaction was confirmed in the app, and I received an order confirmation from the shop. About a minute later, I got an email saying my account had been blocked due to “suspected fraud.” From that moment on, I felt like I was being treated as a criminal rather than a new customer.

They asked me, via their online portal, to upload a copy of my credit card statement as proof that I am the cardholder. I did exactly that. Instead of resolving the issue, I then received another request for more information, again only through the portal, without any real explanation or personal response. I provided the additional details as well. Apparently, that was still not enough.

The next step was a demand for a copy of my passport.

That is where I drew the line. A retailer has no business demanding a passport copy just to process a normal online order. It is the bank’s job to verify the legitimacy of a transaction, not the merchant’s. My bank already did this via 3D Secure, and the authentication was successful. That should be sufficient.

In my view, this company treats new customers as if they are automatically suspicious until they hand over highly sensitive personal documents. The whole process is opaque, automated, and deeply intrusive. For a simple online purchase, this level of data collection is completely disproportionate and unacceptable!

Based on this experience, I can only strongly advise others to stay away from this platform!

I cannot recommend Amazon enough

I cannot recommend Amazon enough. Their prices are excellent, their shipping is usually free, delivery is fast and efficient (thanks The Courier Guy) and packaging is efficient. I have never received a damaged or dirty product and delivery is usually sooner than expected. Communication is top, and if you do need help for some reason, their customer service is on point.

I've bought multiple books from there, it always comes wrapped in plastic, clean and protected. I note this, because books from the opposition has often arrived dirty.

Their range is extensive, but still growing. The only reason I use other online suppliers is for items Amazon does not stock. Excellent experience, every time.

Faulty item and bad service from Amazon

Faulty item, cheaply made. Amazon said I had to ship it back to the seller, at my expense, who would then refund me. Still waiting for my refund from both the seller and Amazon for the shipping costs. They just ignore emails. Rather buy from another platform such as Takealot but AVOID Amazon like the plague.

Unbelievable... Just use Takealot.

I places TWO (2) orders for the very first time and BOTH of them flopped.

So I ordered a keyboard which would've been delivered in a few days, and then the next day I got an email saying that the delivery is unsuccessful and that the order is canceled. I contacted them to follow up, and Amazon claims that courier guys damaged the keyboard.

My 2nd order was another keyboard, again the delivery would've been a few days but it's been 2 weeks and still nothing. I followed up once again, and even though they had stock when I ordered, it turns out that there is no stock and I have to wait until end of July/August!! No compensation for the trouble or anything, I just have to accept it.

I was the one telling everyone that Amazon will be the one to beat Takealot, but Amazon in South Africa literally just provides the South African experience we've all grown to love.

No ability to return product

Their delivery service is ok but it is impossible to return an item. you have to send it back directly to the supplier and all you are given is a an address return label. the Amazon instruction is to send the item via your local post office! as if theres an actual post office in SA

Has nothing I was excited to get

Has nothing I was excited to get. They hardly have anything in stock, always saying temporarily out of stock. They don't have any good items that I want to shop for. Was excited but now they don't have any proper Godzilla or Jurassic Park stuff ever
