Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible. They hound you every year for a meeting to push you to increase coverage. Back before Zoom meetings they would book a meeting and simply not show up. This past year I received THREE separate calls for our annual meeting despite it having already occurred and every time I had to argue with them about whether the meeting had occurred. Trying to cancel the policies has been, and continues to be a nightmare.

One star

One star, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to write this review. What a disappointment with this insurance company! When they're trying to sell you a policy, they promise you everything, but when you try to cancel, you call and call without ever getting through to anyone. After months, you finally connect with them, and they transfer you to the cancellation department. The person who answers tells you that everything has been canceled, but they still keep taking money from your account for payments you no longer owe. Furthermore, during the cancellation call, they never explain that you need to fill out a form to cancel, and they only inform you of this at a later point in the conversation. Not everyone gives you the same information, and if they actually reviewed the recorded calls, they would realize that not everyone is following the same procedures and that their training is clearly inadequate. There are better companies out there. Completely unprofessional. Dealing with this insurance company is incredibly stressful.

A total waste of time and money.

A total waste of time and money.

Income Life promises the world but is nothing but a scam and a rip-off. They are only interested in recruiting people and selling their insurance, not in providing any real value. Communication is poor, and there is zero transparency.

After over two years of paying $55.80 per month, I decided to cancel my policy. Despite contributing nearly $1,700, they told me I would only get about $35 back. And each time I called to ask about my refund, the amount kept dropping. By the end, I was supposed to get just $27. I called them weekly since September, and every single time I got a different excuse. They claimed they needed more paperwork, even though I had already sent everything.

This company is a scam and a rip-off. They do not honor their promises. If you’re considering them, look elsewhere.

Avoid this company

This company is horrible to deal with. If they have to pay out a claim it they will drag you and try everything to not pay you. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They are horrible and a scam.

Relentless, invasive and harassing experience

I have now filed my second complaint (through BBB) within a year and a half. In April 2024, after numerous unsuccessful attempts over the years, I finally managed to cancel my policies with AILI—with the assistance of the BBB. I received a refund check, which was minimal, but at least the matter seemed resolved.
However, in September 2025, I began receiving text messages from AILI asking to discuss the options on my policy that "recently lapsed.” I immediately replied, clarifying that my policies were canceled/closed, not lapsed. Despite calling back right away, my calls went straight to voicemail.
I also tried contacting Customer Service multiple times using all the phone numbers I could find, but again, no one answered, and messages were never returned. On December 9, 2025, I received yet another text from the same agent about my “lapsed policies.” I responded again, reiterating that my policies were canceled, but there was still no way to speak to anyone directly.
This is not just poor service—it feels like harassment. It is relentless, invasive, and emotionally draining. The repeated, unwanted contact and complete lack of accountability have caused significant stress. I strongly urge others to think twice before doing business with them.

Horrible insurance company

We had been clients for well over 10 years and only had one representative come to our home and update information with us. They have NEVER sent us any information or documentation or updates ever. We moved last year and opened a new bank account and I tried at least 3 times to contact ail to get things updated but got zero responses from ail. The only time they finally tried to contact us was when the money was no longer there for them to siphon out! Once they found out we were cancelling with them due to their crappy service we were hung up on twice by the representative! I would like to be able to get our money back from the last few years. Absolutely horrible customer service and insurance company!

Two years later and my “whole life” policies are suddenly “red flagged”

I bought two whole life policies with American Income Life about two years ago for myself and my spouse. At the time, the agent was very clear: this was whole life coverage, we were locked in, and “nothing will change” as long as we kept paying our premiums on time.

Fast forward to now, and I’m getting calls telling me that my policy is “red flagged” and not finalized. After two years of paying, that was a complete shock. I was under the impression that everything had been properly set up and in force. Being told now that something isn’t finalized makes me feel misled and completely unsafe with this company.

I’ve tried to get clear answers about:

Why this “red flag” is only coming up after two years

Whether we’ve actually been properly covered this whole time

How something sold as “whole life, nothing will change” can suddenly be in question

The explanations I’ve been given so far feel vague and scripted, not genuinely helpful. Instead of reassurance, I’m left with more questions and a lot of frustration.

After this experience I started reading other online reviews and complaints, and I really wish I had done that before signing. There are many comments about confusing communication, sales pressure, and people feeling misled about what they were actually buying.
PolicyMe
+1

At this point, I do not trust American Income Life with something as important as life insurance. In my opinion, they were happy to take my premiums but far less clear about what was really happening with my policy.

Bottom line: I would not recommend American Income Life. If you’re considering them, read the fine print very carefully, get everything in writing, and compare with other insurers before you sign anything.

Very poor service

Very poor service. I am asking to cancel our policies since July 12, 2025 and they say that they canceled, but it's still charging it. I have the emails from different departments but they're so incompetent that it seems like the departments don't communicate with each other, or they're just dishonest and unwilling to stop charging. Imagine if you need this insurance for a death? They're incredibly incompetent and dishonest, so it's best to look for a company you can trust.

I'm looking for a new life insurance…

I'm looking for a new life insurance company, as I have received 15 calls from these scum on Tuesday alone. I hope these people are hung upside down and eaten alive by rats. I have tried to have them put me on their DO NOT CALL list many times now. Stop bothering me with your crap about your online portal! Get solid customer service, not scammers!

Awful

Awful, shady, lying, etc. Lots of words to describe the way that this company is run. They'll call you often for "updates" and not tell you that they're applying for a new, more expensive policy for you. They require you to list 10 people you know, so they then call. If you wanna cancel, they try to convince you not to- not with discounts or anything, but by being like "oh, you need life insurance" blah blah blah. Id give it negative stars if I could

I'm a Veteran and just wanted the Free Package

I'm a Veteran and just was looking for the "Free" burial benefits and Will package as advertised. Don't fall for it. This turned into a ton of unsolicited phone calls. When I spoke with a representative it quickly turned into a sales pitch for Whole life insurance and on the surface everything looked OK but I changed my mind and once I said I didn't want the insurance was told without the insurance plan the "free" veterans package was not available, all communication stopped. Nice!

CAN'T CANCEL!

We have been trying to cancel the policy for years. During COVID we tried, and they said it was all set. 3 years later I noticed the charge on the bank account that we rarely use. We called a few different times and got run around. Finally, we got someone on the phone a month ago telling me that there was so much cash value in the plan after all the years, etc... We are closing that bank account and making this easy on ourselves.

I purchased a policy from American Life…

I purchased a policy from American Life Insurance, but within a week realized I didn’t need it. I called their customer service to cancel the policy over the phone. The representative assured me it was cancelled and that no charges would be made to my account.

Weeks later, I noticed a debit of $108.11 from American Life Insurance. I immediately issued a stop payment through my bank and called the company. They claimed they had no record of my cancellation, but said they would "send a message to the cancellation team."

I was already frustrated that my initial cancellation wasn’t honored. However, what made this worse was that today I received a text saying they would try to draft my account again for $108.11, since it "didn’t go through last time."

I responded to the text stating that my policy was cancelled and I did not authorize any further charges. I also called again, and the new representative again had no notes or record of my previous cancellation requests.

At this point, I’m extremely upset and feel like they’re deliberately ignoring my cancellation to keep charging me. It’s completely unacceptable to be told your policy is cancelled, only to find out later that nothing was processed and your bank account is still being targeted.

This experience has been frustrating, misleading, and feels deceptive. I would not recommend American Life Insurance to anyone.

Dark Cloud Looming

Cash Value is my monies growing in my policy and can be used at my discretion. However, AIL refers to it as a policy “loan” suggesting payment to be made back on your own interest. I called for a withdrawal and it has not occurred. I call and every rep has a different response. The latest call advised the amount of “my” monies requested had been reduced with no explanation as to why. I plan to report them to the SEC if resolution is not to my satisfaction. As an independent insurance broker, I am ashamed to learn the stigma associated with our insurance industry is rooted in truth.

Poor service when death occurs

My wife passed away and I am the beneficiary of her life ins. policy. AIL is very slow about dispensing funds and each time I called, I got a different response. It has been 17 days since my wife passed and all info requested was sent as required. Now they say it will be up to another week before funds are released.

Be cautious

They were very nice and not too pushy, but maybe a little to buy their life insurance. They called because I ordered a free Will Kit.
