Got an (almost) no-quibble full refund from AppSumo

I purchased a lifetime 1-tier license for a SaaS product in Feb 2023. In November 2024 the vendor was acquired, the new owners changed directions and shut down the product I had purchased

AppSumo notified me in November and offered a full refund under the 'we got your back' guarantee. I had to email to claim this which I did right away, same day.

I didn't hear anythgin for a while and when I followed up I was told it was now too late to claim the refund!

I provided a copy of my original email and this was accepted immediately and I was fully refunded the same day.

I've used AppSumo for more than 10 years and they have always provided great offers and good support. I will continue to use and recommend them.

AppSumo used to be great - Turned into a scam.

AppSumo used to be great - Our account goes back to April 2013 - I guess that makes us an OG.

It seems these days the founder Noah Kagan no longer cares enough to address the fact that AppSumo has become a place for scammers to release new software, sell "Lifetime Memberships" and then close their SAAS products down within months.

Its so frequent, and the 'support' at AppSumo is so incompetent, its hard to trust that AppSumo isn't in on the scam at this point.

Noah seemed to be an awesome founder who cared about his product and customers, but it seems he's become just another Silicon Valley / Austin grifter.

Damn shame.

Good honest platform

Our case was unusual. We were only interested in one piece of software advertised on their platform. The price through Appsumo was very attractive but the 3rd party vendor did not allow any free trials - even for 1hr-2hrs. We asked in advance what would happen if the software were unsuitable. They told us they would refund us. They were good to their word. We were also told in advance, provided we did not use any of their additional coupons/freebies, they would refund the Appsumo fee as well, as we had no need for anything else.

Bottom line, while we were disappointed in the 3rd party product, which is unrelated to Appsumo, the Appsumo platform is run honestly and for this we are leaving a positive review.

Don't get fooled with appsumo's lifetime deals

Don't get fooled with appsumo's lifetime deals. Appsumo is not a just company. It is dishonest company. They are punitive towards good founders while they side with shady founders. Their lifetime deals are the joke. Their support is a cringe. They will not publish any reviews and honest opinions. What you see the positive reviews are mostly incentivised by the founders.

I am deeply dissatisfied with this platform's approach to selling applications for entrepreneurs. My experience reveals significant issues with product quality, customer support, and after-sales service.
Key Problems:
Purchased multiple applications (Content Groove, Chopcast, Radiolize) that failed to meet basic functionality expectations
Content Groove interrupted service less than a month after purchase
No proactive communication about application dysfunctions
Lack of genuine customer support when issues were reported
Redirected to ineffective "We Got Your Back" service link

AppSumo charged me $40 for nothing…

AppSumo charged me $40 for nothing after a software upgrade downgrade. They only refunded part of the upgrade cost, citing a coupon I used on the original purchase over a year ago - a coupon never mentioned during the upgrade. I've been chasing them for weeks, but their communication is slow and unresponsive. They refused to fully refund or reinstate the upgrade. Beware of their misleading downgrade refund practices! I won't be buying from them again.

Deceptive Marketing with Useless Customer Support

Purchased AppSumo Plus Membership for $99

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with AppSumo Plus and their customer service. I subscribed to the Plus membership believing it would provide valuable benefits, but the reality fell far short of expectations.

The main issue is the misrepresentation of the Plus benefits. The advertised discount was deceptive, as it provided only a negligible additional saving. The customer support agent claimed that I had used the membership benefits, when the facts were opposite. I had not even bothered to use any benefits. I used only one which they provide even without the purchase of the membership. I even included a screenshot from my AppSumo account showing that my Yearly Plan was listed as 'Not Redeemed', which proved I wasn't actively using the membership's benefits.

Worst of all was the customer service. The support team refused to understand my explanation, ignored the evidence, and simply repeated their standard response. They were unhelpful, dismissive, and completely unwilling to find a reasonable solution. This attitude is simply unacceptable. The customer service agents seemed completely uninterested in resolving my issue. They take almost 1 month to respond to my email but call me a VIP member because of Plus Membership!

While AppSumo may offer some useful products, I strongly advise caution when considering AppSumo Plus. The benefits are not worth the cost, and if you encounter any issues, don't expect helpful or understanding customer service. This has been the single worst customer service experience of my life. I truly feel disappointed with the outcome.

Happy AppSumo Plus member for 5+ years

I've been an AppSumo plus member for many years. Overall it has been awesome to jump on board with some phenomenal companies and incredible products that are part of our every day workflow as a business. That said… We have spent so much money on products that seem appealing, but still have not used in several years. We see a great deal 🤩 we buy it!

This might seem like another cliché five star review, but I do want to share some negative sentiment. Some of the products that we have purchased have EOL'd or have changed their initial offering or have sold to another company or have just stopped developing and faded into disarray. I feel like AppSumo does everything in their power to protect us from these kinds of companies by strictly vetting those products they bring onto the platform. But inevitably some sneak through and you essentially lose your money/investment. But The amount of value I receive from the sumo Marketplace still outweighs the lost investments.

I can also tell you that on several occasions the AppSumo team has done everything in their power to make things right and take care of us as a customer, and compensate us whenever they can.

When it comes to the AppSumo support team… I can't say enough good things about them… They are phenomenal. Quick to respond, and anxious to put the customer first and generously meet their needs! I hope Noah understands what a truly incredible team he has!

AppSumo is such a great platform

AppSumo is such a great platform! Maybe the best platform for entrepreneurs! I really love it!
And the best thing besides the lifetime deals is their support.
Over the last year, I had maybe 2 problems I needed support with and the response time was less than 30 minutes. I would give more stars if I could :D

Facilitates the sale of scam products

I purchased one of their products thinking it looked like a good tool and good value for money. I used the tool ONCE and then they deactivated my account and ignored all my emails, taking the money with them. They seem to support the running of a lot of scam tools.

I would go with a more reputable company.

Have bought hundreds of offers since May 2022

AppSumo makes it possible to get great software at a steep discount. I have been a major fan of this website and marketplace since spring 2022, spending quite a bit of money for access to digital marketing and creation tools.

My encounters with customer service have been always positive and almost always satisfying. Recently, AppSumo refunded me for a Chromium-based browser purchase after the browser closed shop six months after buying. I was grateful for the refund.

I've gotten some incredible software and deals on AppSumo. Sometimes, however, software goes kaput, and AppSumo is working on ways to help incentivize developers and customers to avoid "lifetime" deals ending prematurely.

It is impossible to get your product…

It is impossible to get your product online at the ‘Market Leader’ AppSumo.

Product submissions are rejected for reasons that are either not correct or no reasons are given as to why this is the case, although AppoSumo communicates the following:

‘We'll let you know exactly why your submission wasn't approved and what you can do to fix it.’

For us AppSumo was an absolute waste of time and we would not recommend it to any entrepreneur. This company is anything but transparent.
When asked why it was rejected again the only answer was that the service team has no capacity to explain to the entrepreneurs why they were rejected. Instead you should try to register again every 30-60 days. What arrogant behaviour.

Also annoying, but still acceptable if the rest would be fine, is the 60-day right of cancellation, which is probably only there so that AppSumo only has to pay out money after 60 days.

Dont waste your time, go straight to the competition. There are much better plattforms to publish your lifetime offers. If you dont want us, we will go to someone who wants to!
