Xenophobic and Rude
I have been a client of this practice for years, hold an insurance plan with them, and have never once raised a complaint. I want that on record before I describe what happened.
I visited to collect a repeat prescription for my dog. The receptionist was hostile from the moment I approached the desk. She was xenophobic, demeaning, and unprofessional in a way I have never experienced in any customer-facing environment in over thirteen years of living in this country. She mumbled under her breath while serving me, performed confusion every time I spelled my name despite me spelling it three times and using the NATO phonetic alphabet twice, and spent more time treating me with contempt than it took her to do her actual job.
I was patient throughout. I told her repeatedly I was happy to wait. I was not difficult. I was not rude. I was a paying client collecting medication for my dog.
I raised a formal complaint. The practice manager, Marcus, responded without once contacting me to take my account. He relied on the receptionist's own statement and silent CCTV footage - footage with no audio - to dismiss an allegation of verbal xenophobic abuse. He then declared himself satisfied that she had acted appropriately and closed the matter. When I challenged this, he did it again.
This practice conducted a sham investigation, accepted the word of the accused without scrutiny, and used evidence that is physically incapable of capturing verbal conduct to dismiss a discrimination complaint. That is not an oversight. That is a choice.
I am escalating to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Veterinary Client Mediation Service, and my solicitor. I have also cancelled my insurance plan.
