At Armchair2ultra, we offer a bespoke fitness coaching service for athletes that are complete beginners right through to competitive ultramarathon runners. Neil is a university-educated sports fitness coach passionate about helping his clients reach their goals. Coaching takes place online, using the Training Peaks platform (free or paid account), or can be in-person if you are based in the East Midlands. Your training calendar is set weekly using the data from your Smart watch. If you use a HR monitor, even better! We hold a free 1-hour Wednesday evening session in the LE65 area so you can come along and meet Neil, and some of the A2U athletes. You may have a goal in mind already, a specific race to train for, or want to improve your running (speed or distance). A2U can help you set and achieve these goals. You can contact Neil for a no-strings chat via email, WhatsApp or a phone or Zoom call. There's a free 2-week period whilst you decide if our coaching is for you. After that you always remain in control of payment by setting up a standing order. If you want to cancel, you can. No questions and no pressure. What have you got to lose?

Training with Neil has been a transformative experience. His deep passion for running is contagious, and it’s clear from the outset that he genuinely lives and breathes the sport. As a coach, Neil brings an ideal balance of enthusiasm, encouragement, and science-backed training methods that make you feel both supported and empowered every step of the way.

Neil’s approach is grounded in research, but never at the expense of being personal and practical. He takes the time to understand your goals, your challenges, and your progress, tailoring plans that push your limits while keeping you motivated and injury-free. Whether it’s a tough fell session or a long ultra training block, Neil’s energy and belief in your potential keeps you going.

Beyond just training plans, Neil has instilled in me a mindset of resilience and curiosity about my own capabilities. His coaching has not only made me a stronger ultra marathon runner, but a more confident one too.

Brilliant coaching

Brilliant coaching. Not only specific and thoughtful training plans, but also helped me to understand so much about strength and conditioning, nutrition, race admin, navigation, equipment etc. I was thoroughly well prepared for the several ultras I’ve done now, and there’s no end to his knowledge (all evidence based). So much better than the nonsense you find on social media.

Loads of genuine experience of fell running, multi day events and all sorts. Non-stop learning.

Zero to Hero

With Neil's coaching and guidance, I went from never having run on the trails to completing 2 trail ultra-marathons within a month. His individual training plans ensure that all his athletes get bespoke science led training that works for them. His knowledge and experience are wide-ranging and it has been an absolute pleasure to train with him.

Brilliant coach!

I have been training with armchair2ultra for around 3 months. Neil’s training has made me look forward to my runs and he will plan and tailor training to your goals. He provides feedback every time and is very quick to respond to messages. Since starting my training plan I have booked two races which I would never have done before, Neil has given me the confidence to go out of my comfort zone!

Neil is a fantastic coach

Neil is a fantastic coach, so knowledgeable and super friendly. He’s completely changed my perspective on running in a few months. Before Neil’s help, I wasn’t really enjoying it and just did it to keep fit. Now, I throughly enjoy running, and he’s changed my mindset completely!

Great supportive coach

Neil has been coaching me for nearly a year. He is really knowledgeable and also really supportive and genuinely enthusiastic about how it's going. He plans training which is completely individual and targeted towards my personal goals and always gives helpful feedback. With his help I've done well in events this year that I would never previously have taken on. I'd definitely recommend his coaching.

A fantastic coach

I never thought I’d run for more than a minute but Neil helped me achieve my initial goal of getting to 5k injury free last year, and has been great since then working with me to identify how I can improve my endurance and fitness to support my new running aims. Neil is so supportive and professional, everything is tailored to you and your own goals and abilities.
