Brilliant vets!

I’ve been with this vets practice for quite a while now and have had exceptional experiences every time. The receptionists are consistently friendly and helpful, which is much appreciated when I’m worried about any of my pets. I have seen 3 different vets as my elderly cat has to have a monthly injection for arthritis; I was worried about her having a visit to the vet so frequently but every vet I’ve seen have been fantastic with her; she has been treated gently and the injection is done before she even knows! As one of the very few independent vets left in Ayrshire they charge fairly and are very much cheaper (in financial terms only) than my previous vet who I was with for over 20 years before they were bought over by a multi national business. I honestly can’t praise this veterinary practice and team more highly and don’t hesitate to recommend them.

Scruffing/bad practice

I have left them due to the way they handled my cat. Firstly, even for non-aggressive cat they use scruffing as a way of handling the animal/the act of grabbing a cat by the loose skin at the back of its neck, also known as the scruff. Some people believe that scruffing can be used to move, restrain, or reprimand a cat, but it can actually be harmful to the cat and counterproductive to those handling it. Secondly, after a simple procedure that required an anaesthetic, I brought my cat completely soiled, unable to walk and severely traumatised. After this procedure my cat was hiding under the bed for around two weeks. Thirdly, during a deep teeth cleaning they broke my cat's tooth, which they did not disclose. Additionally, the way they responded to the insurance company had resulted in my claim being rejected. As I spoke about this to the financial ombudsman they said that the veterinary practice was to blame.
I have now left them and never experienced my cat being traumatised anymore. He goes to the vets every so often, no trauma observed..
