A private equity Firm assumed ownership…
A private equity Firm assumed ownership of Art Van Furniture and therein resides the problem with this organization. Because of its founder Art Van was very concerned in grooming his own reputation as a member of the community.
In contrast this private Equity Firm has one mission and that is to make money and margin at all costs.
As customers we need to be concerned with the value we receive on purchase and to a lesser extent the contribution to the community.
Here's what's counter-intuitive
If you look at the management structure art van today you will find that is being run I people with deep retail experience in places such as Sears Toys-R-Us Barnes & Noble and other failed or currently failing retailers. As customers this really isn't our concern other that it being an indicator the current owners don't care much about anything.
Worst furniture buying experience for…
Worst furniture buying experience for me ever.
Because of my stature, I have to be particular about sofas. Most cushion configurations give me a severe neck ache. So after spending quite awhile checking out different choices, I told our salesperson, "I've decided. I want this one.". It was in the clearance center and was marked "As Is." Not wanting to be surprised by anything, I asked if there was something we needed to be aware of. We were in the process of looking at the back when another salesperson walked up and said that the two ladies he was helping wanted the couch. Our salesperson said that we were still "hemming and hawing" so it belonged to the other two ladies.
I was flabbergasted!
What about, "I've decided. I want this one," is hemming and hawing?
It was going to be ridiculous to stand there and fight over a piece of furniture, and I was afraid that if I said anything, it wasn't going to be very nice. So we let the other people have it.
"Our" salesperson said we could have the same piece off the main floor and it would be brand new. (The one in the CC was new. It was a special order where the buyer changed their mind.)
Yeah, we did get the main floor one just because it is so hard for me to find something comfortable. I wish we had walked away. The manager did give us an additional discount, but our lousy salesperson ended up costing us $150.
If I have the option to not put any…
If I have the option to not put any stars I will . Our experience has been horrible and ver lengthy. All started last year buying a set of couches that 4 months later started to pill, we contacted the store, they sent a person, we had to have a new couch in 4-6 weeks, never happened, in the mean time the other couch started to have the same issue, we contacted Art Van again , they asked us to go back to the store and select different products which we did and at that time the associates at the store weren’t very pleasant. We ended up selecting another set which cost us another 1,000. We had to go back and pick up the new couches- that service wasn’t offered to us for free since we had the issue. At the time we asked if the couch has the automatic recliner that we ordered - they said yes, as we came home the couch was manual, we called back - Art Van promised to deliver to us the correct couch on 4/19/2019, today is 4/20/2019, I called the store and they don’t see the order, we don’t have the correct couch !!! Problem is still ongoing
I am simply speechless at the blatant…
I am simply speechless at the blatant disregard for my concern. I purchased a cabinet in good faith from Scott Shuptrine and was mislead to believe that it was 100% functional. At delivery, it never worked. I spoke to the complaint manager, not a courtesy return call after being told I would receive one. It has been 2 weeks and not even a courtesy follow-up. I was moving to Florida when I purchased the cabinet, in good faith I left it in Michigan because the top and light was supposed to be replaced. I was told that it could not be replaced and I could go into the store and choose anything I wanted to replace it. I loved the cabinet and wanted to keep it and asked for half of it to be taken off. I was insulted by the Royal Oak manager and was offered $156. Then was told by the complaint manager that I was only charged $500. Well, just like insurance, the actual replacement cost was not $500. I am not stuck in Florida with a NON FUNCTIONING PIECE OF FURNITURE THAT DOES NOT WORK. Please give me a complete refund for the inconvenience of not honoring and upholding to a high standard of customer satisfaction. It is just not right to treat people wrong and unfair. I have NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT AND in fact, I paid off my account and then as a dummy I came back to purchase more furniture from a company that I thought was an honorable place to shop. I intend to report this store and the complaint manager to social media outlets so that other customers will be aware of the way customers are treated.

We bought our furniture 16 months ago with a cleaning plan..the man who sold it to us
Said this plan was to have your furniture cleaned, when ever we wanted it ..so ...come to find out it was for SPOT cleaning only! Becareful what you add on to your purchase..we were mislead....
Artvan is the worse furniture store
Artvan is the worse furniture store. My husband and I came over there and spent thousands of dollars to furnish our apartment and not even a year yet and leather couch we got is already peeling off, so is our dining table and seats. So frustrating. Also, the warranty for them is waste of money. They don’t do anything for you! Come over to your house, Paint the place and leave, days later it’s all bad again. I am really disappointed. It’s definitely not furniture for long term, and their price is not worth at all.
The absolute worst furniture store…Art Van!!!
The absolute worst furniture store ever!!!!!! Will never purchase anything from this store again. The insurance I purchased was miss represented. The sales pitche that was used on my husband and I were all lies and that is shameful!!!!
The manager was extremely disrespectful.
By far the worst experience I have ever had at a store. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My husband and I were shopping for some furniture for our new home over the weekend at the Harwood Heights location in Illinois and had a very personable salesman that helped us out the entire time we looked around and answered all of our questions. Very professional and knowledgeable. We decided to talk some numbers on the pricing and told the salesman we would think about everything and reach out to him in a couple of days. When we came back, we changed our minds on the furniture and decided to go with something else. Once again, we started talking about pricing. Some gentleman, by the name of Adam, came up to us while we were speaking with the salesman, and said "today I don't want to hear the word 'price' from you guys," and walked away. We all laughed, figuring he was making a joke from us negotiating the prices on the other furniture from the other day. He comes back a couple of minutes later when the salesman was giving us the price and my husband asked, "Is this the best you can do?" a question that EVERYBODY would ask before pulling the plug on 5k worth of furniture. This so called "big shot" Adam, jumped right in and said "No this is the best price you're going to get and if you don't like it, you can go buy this furniture somewhere else. You got a great deal the other day on the other furniture and you didn't buy it so that's your fault. I will be glad if you go somewhere else and buy this furniture. It won't hurt us because you are getting this at a low cost and we're losing money here." We were appalled. At first we thought he was simply joking around once again, but he started turning purple as he was getting loud with us and we realized he was being serious. Pretty much told us screw you we don't want your business and walked away. We were all in shock. I didn't even have a chance to react as I was trying to put together what just happened. The man was so disrespectful. I started to get my things together to leave and the salesman started apologizing on his behalf and was extremely embarrassed. He said that's his boss and all he can do is apologize. I was extremely upset and would never purchase from this place had the salesman not been sincere with us this entire time and worked with us for a couple of days. We wanted to give the credit where it was due. But as far as this Adam gentleman goes, he was extremely rude and was so aggressive with his words towards us, we couldn't believe it. I have received better customer service at Walmart than from this so called manager. He should be dealt with for his behavior like this towards customers because if that's how he is with everyone, then he will be bad for business. Never shopping with Art Van again. Thanks for the great customer service Adam.
I bought a chair and the extended…
I bought a chair and the extended warranty. The leather began to disintegrate about a year after I purchased it. Called customer service and they sent a representative to evaluate the chair. He came and told us they would have to fix or replace it and that we would hear from them within a week. They never called, so when I contacted them they told me that the damage was not covered and that "they never contact anyone." Ridiculous, but maybe I should give her credit for at least being honest about their horrible customer service?? STAY AWAY FROM ART VAN FURNITURE!
I bought a sofa the sales person…
I bought a sofa the sales person assured me it was good quality...it started to fall apart after 9 months i asked to reselect to a quality piece they refused and fixed it ....it fell apart again after 3 months this time they refised to fix or replace...lesson learned dont buy garbage furniture from a garbage store.
I will never do business with them…
I will never do business with them again, just horrible. Customer service is lacking and they do not provide everything on your invoice and make excuses for it.
Terrible
Terrible, horrible, disgusting, disrespectful customer service from the store sales person to the service department to the cooperate office. I have spent thousands of dollars in past with them and they couldn't careless about me the customer. Cancelled my card and REFUSE to ever shop there again!
Paid for a bed to be delivered in 10…
Paid for a bed to be delivered in 10 days from date of purchase after carpeting was installed. Received a call around 2 pm the day before delivery stating it would be delivered the next day between 1:30 and 4 pm. At7pm that same day, they called me and said they were at negative in stock when they went to pull my order. I was told "we over sold that model". Basically they sold my bed from under me. I was offered to come back in and I would get a comparable bed. I went back and cancelled the order then went to Gardner White and purchased a similar bed and had it delivered that day. They lost a good returning customer forever! Salesman was nice and knowledgeable. Company was just greedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One store's loss is another store's gain...
I generally don't do ratings. However, After a couple of hrs, I am still irritated. I am in the process of searching for good inexpensive living room furniture for my home. I went to two other stores before making my way to Art Van. The first two stores that I went to, someone greeted me within a few mins, asked my name & helped me find what I was looking for that was within my price range. They wrote down the set I was interested in as well as offered me their business card in case I decide to make that purchase.
After walking thru Art Van for a few mins, someone eventually greeted me. I told her that I was looking for their close out or reduced furniture. I didn't feel as though she was too keen on helping me after I told her what I was looking for. I followed her to the clearance section. She didn't ask what I was looking for, my name or what my price range was. Once we get to that section, she says that if I need her, I could find her at the desk or somewhere, I don't remember because she didn't seem too interested. She did give me her card but there was figures written on the back & from what I remembered at the time, that card wasn't the name she stated. I could be mistaken. She said she would come back in a few mins to see if I found anything I was interested in. Well, I saw several sets that I was interested in that I had questions about. After about 15 mins of looking, she still hadn't come back. So I decided to continue looking on my own. After about another 15 mins, no sales person. So, I decided to take pics of the sets that I was interested in so that I could show them to a friend so we would know what I wanted when I went back with him. Still, no sales person. I saw sales people walking by but no one asked me if they could help me. After about 45 mins, I decided it was time for me to go. As I walked to the door, I never saw her again.
I don't know about anyone else but when I feel that my money, large or small, is not enough for you to "waste time" with, I'd rather go back to the other stores & spend a little more with them. I don't know if she was having a bad day or wasn't feeling well. But I would think that if you really wanted by business, you'd catch me as I'm walking to the door to see if I found anything that I liked. Oh well, if my friend wants to go back, I may go. But at this point, I can skip them & go back to the previous stores or continue on with my list of other furniture stores. ~shrugs shoulders~
Everything as they told me.
sales good, furniture great, and delivery awesome.
Art Van delivery model is worst even…
Art Van delivery model is worst even charging so much amount. They can't adjust their timing as per your need and will be rude when you will ask for favor in case of any Emergency. I had doctor appointment and I requested to delivery in second half but they said they can't adjust their time and you have to receive product when they will come...
Also if they delivery defected product then also their support group wouldn't take care and give another appointment to check. At the time of delivery I already told delivery person that this is defected piece and he said that he will put in note and I will get a call.. When I called service Dept they said that their technician will come and review then I said why it so because I bought new product and paid full price so I should get fresh piece then they said this our courtesy that we are sending another piece this time but next time we wouldn't do that.... This surprised me...after paying $130 we will not get fresh piece and if you will complain they might again question.....
Really frustrated with Art Van furniture service and delivery... Wouldn't recommend to any one and wouldn't buy again....
Purchase from beyond
i have been an Art Van customer for a very long time, but this was the worst experience of shopping I have ever had. the salesman Quenton I felt purposefully lied to me just to make a sale. To make matters worst, the wrong bed was delivered twice, still waiting to be picked up on Wednesday June 20, 2018. I returned to the store on E. 8 Mile and Schoener in Warren, Michigan on two occasions to rectify the mistake but to no avail, so I cancelled my order and went to the competition. The experience was totally different (pleasant) and I have the purchase in the home (cheaper next day delivery). Think I got an apology? Wrong!
WOW, A MUST SEE PLACE!
Wow! that was a beautifully unexpected surprise. A VERY RELAXED ENVIRONMENT TO SHOP FURNITURES, AND MANY FUN , RARE PIECES TO DECORATE ANY ROOM. A MUST SEE .
