Shameful practice exploiting vulnerability

Shameful practice of keeping a pet alive who had been hit by a car in order to exploit gathering money from our insurance when there was nothing they could do for her. This vet practice do not care about your animals and as many have said they just want your money, all of it in what ever way they can get it. Do not use these crooks. Changed to another vet in Billingshurst who have been exceptional. (Date may be incorrect)

Charged me £32 for medication that RRP was £1.52.

The staff at Arun Chichester are absolutely lovely. Everyone is very kind, and polite. Just spent £66 on two medicines I found on Amazon for a total of £14. I check a previous invoice from last year and found those same medicines they charge me £62, were being sold for a total of £6. One of them was being sold for £1.42.
Arun Group as a whole are disgusting. You should be doing this because you care about animals, not to take it as an opportunity to unethically overcharge medications to customers. This is sick, and just profiteering of people’s misery, the economy is in a terrible place right now and you’re doing this to people. It’s dam right evil is what it is. How can you charge someone over £30 for something that’s being sold at retail for £1.52????????? I’ve been sold probiotics for £39, which are being sold online for £9, prime same day delivery. Before you buy anything from these businesses check the prices online, you could save a small fortune!

This is not a caring or functioning vet practice

Final straw yesterday and not even the fantastic, resilient Carol can save this ineffective, uncaring and not fit for purpose surgery. Firstly everything is about money and to not backed up by service, each visit is a further revenue generation opportunity for them. The final straw was when I phoned up yesterday for a vets appointment for my dog and there were no vets until Tuesday. How can this be a vet? Additionally I pay £22 a month for the VIP program and am about to claim back 4 years of direct debits as they have not delivered against their list of products / services. Go elsewhere, I certainly will.

Was basically railroaded into have my dog spayed via “keyhole” AKA lap spay , was told all negative things about the traditional method, no surprise keyhole is way more expensive - decided to get a second opinion, to be told keyhole is Risky on small dogs and they would recommend the traditional method - basically didn’t have my dogs best interests at heart, just the money in pocket!!

AVOID only after your money and what extras they can charge for

Awful only after the money praying on vulnerable people who love their pets charging extortionate fees wanted nearly £3000 to take skin tags/wart of had cheek to ring me after visit to say another wart next to main one on leg so be additional £250 plus £150 to send away when I told them to stick it they then said would incorporate as one lump !!!! However went to fantastic new vet today Stellar Vets Littlehampton for same op £1000 that’s £2000 different!!!! Reception staff are rude when I asked for a printed receipt for other dog Lucy who sadly passed away in January she told me trying to save on paper did I really need it when I said I’ve spent £32,000 on vet bills with her as she had meningitis surely you can afford to print a receipt. Got medication wrong for her charged me for 50mg but gave me 25mg when I rang said you can give 2 of these but charged me 50mg so I refused made them reorder the correct medication at £300 should be checked before issuing when I went to collect medication on the next day I checked the dosage reception said it’s correct I said well you didn’t get it correct yesterday !! When Lucy passed away I was told they won’t send her away for cremation until I have paid the bill which I did the very next day asked for a specific urn for her ashes was told they had rung crematorium and yes was fine then 2 weeks later said not in stock anymore after they said they did have the specific urn. This added to my great sadness of loss as it was I will say previous lady on reception at westergate was always really lovely and friendly and Lisa was great over the years when Lucy was ill but then you could never get to see her staff always trying to give you medication you don’t need wanted to give snowy my other dog metacam I said what for he’s not in pain and inflammation tablets his skin tag wasn’t inflamed made me give him antibiotics as might be infected it wasn’t but just out to take your money AVOID AT ALL COSTS so disappointed at the way I’ve been treated at Arun Vets asked for Advocate don’t prescribe anymore Prinocate now prescribed which is a cheaper option but still charge extortionate amount for it then after they took my money said out of stock will text when in !! Could have told me that first no wanted my money upfront again then when I went to collect reception lady said oh we keep advocate in a different draw couldn’t find it so they still do prescribe advocate. My lovely new vets has a best buddy plan unlimited package for £36.99 unlimited visits anal glands all flea worming treatment nail cutting free written prescriptions vaccinations free Insurance claiming process plus lots more they are looking out for the pet not what they can charge for plus will see you immediately booking online no extortionate fees for emergency appointment after being a very loyal customer so very disappointed that Arun Vets clearly couldn’t care less anymore unless you pay them what they want no doubt in time as the government is looking in to vets and there extortiate fees Arun Vets will be investigated oh and the first thing they ask have you got insurance they don’t care in the slightest I have insurance for my snowy but on principle I wouldn’t pay nearly £3000 for some skin tags/warts to be removed they are a joke please if you are thinking of using them ring other vets first

We have been loyal clients of aruns…

We have been loyal clients of aruns vets for 9 years. Something has changed there in the last three years I would say. Now, there is no chance of seeing the same vet more than once and fees have sky rocketed. Reception staff have shown little compassion for my reactive dog whilst waiting in reception and once when my dogs were barking the reception staff said they’d have to ask us to leave ! I’ve sat with my guinea pigs in the main waiting area despite there being a quieter area just off reception. The final straw to move has come recently when I called - the first time was to say my guinea pig was struggling to breathe - they said it woukd cost me £160 for her to be seen in the day and to call back if she seems worse. The second time was today when my dog was stung by something and wa shaking so they said come in and it will be £160 plus to be seen. I think it’s morally wrong to charge your customers more when they need you the most. Both of these appointments were within working hours in the week. Surely you either have an appointment or not ? How come you have appointments if people pay more ??? It’s immoral and shows the animals welfare is not the priority
That same day I moved to a practise who charged me £60 for an appointment and saw me straight away . Customer service and fees are not priority here

Disgraceful practices

UPDATE: Their response to the complaint - they point blank deny doing anything wrong despite the clear evidence to the contrary, they refuse to take the untampered medicine back for a refund and believe that they are completely entitled to charge whatever they like (THE LAW STATES OTHERWISE). Oh and then they have the cheek to give us 2 weeks to find another vet. These people are NAAASTY!

ORIGINAL: First vet appointment here and we experienced:

1. Automatically given inhouse medicines without any disclosure of price or given option to buy elsewhere. In fact, the vet seemed eager/frantic to source them inhouse.

2. Reasons for 1. apparent when I got home and checked the receipt:

Acular 5ml costs £5 everywhere else (Arun vets has charged us £40.08)

Metacam 32ml costs £7.28 (Arun vets has charged us £48.00)

Prescription = £25 is also clearly very high compared to all other vets we have seen.

= A markup of 8 x prices

I don't care whether it's 50p or it's £500. I simply do not appreciate being ripped off. I work hard for my money, have a rescue dog without option of insurance, and my pockets deserve my money FAR more than yours do.

I understand the CMA has been investigating this utterly shameful practice of prescription markups but there clearly needs far tighter regulations on this entirely inappropriate conduct and NOW. There is legislation and other codes of practice to thankfully offer some protection in the meantime.

3. When I first enquired they said they wanted £15 for PPE for every visit because my dog is from another country. Absolutely ridiculous and unreasonable, and thought that was behind us. Apparently not. The vet said they would need to put my dog's welfare at risk because they have immuno compromised staff working there of a child bearing age. Seriously WTH?? According to the RCVS code of practice staff are expected to be physically able to do the job. Erm maybe they are in the wrong line of work?? In any event, my dog is worth hundreds of the likes of yous so clearly, I will not be putting her at any risk. Thank you.

Conclusion from our first and last visit = This practice only cares about money, and my goodness, it will do anything without code or ethics to separate you from as much of it as it possibly can.

Lack of understanding and empathy

Sadly after being with Arun vet group for a few years now and happy in that time a feel I cannot give them more that one star due to their lack of compassion and understanding
In short my 12:5 year old Persian cat was suffering from constipation went in on the sat night for consult was given opioid injection Buprecare and
Enema he reacted to the opioid and sat up all night staring. Next morning was staggering and disoriented so took him back Sunday night
They said would keep him
In rehydrate .Blood . Enema and x - ray
( x-ray not done after all)
They called in the morning said was fine to go home
When got him home he was staggering , disorientated and literally sleeping 24 hours a day I had to lift his head to syringe water into him and liquid food and stand him in the litter tray where he swayed from side to side he was like this for a few days his nose was full
with snot !
I took him back and had a recheck they said he was fine and it was unusual to see cats react from drugs he had been given FOUR doses of Methadyne IN less than 24 hours
I had told them when I left him there that he did react to a lot of drugs also given 4 enemia this I feel was totally not necessary
I really thought I was going to lose him. He went in a normal cat apart from constipation and came out basically a cat that just laid there.
It was heartbreaking. I spent the whole week crying affected my mental health and my anxiety a great deal.
With prompting from friends, I took him to a different vet for a second opinion Everybody is entitled to a second opinion and more opinions., And yes, I did email VETS when I was in a distressed state . I was absolutely devastated.I felt guilty leaving my cat and I wasn’t happy with the amount of drugs he had been given for constipation it cost me around £1,300 and had to leave £400 up front before they would treat him !

On Monday I had a phone call from their clinical director his tone was very condescending
He said that they no longer wished to treat any of my
Animals 4 dogs and one cat and that would have 2 weeks to find another vets as they would no longer provide veterinary care or out of hours emergency services for any of my pets is this from people that apparently are animal lovers ????
He wasn’t interested in anything I had to say and totally ignored my request for refund or partial refund
They also know they have the monopoly
As they are the only out of hours for most vets in the area !

My cat having had treatment at another practice is now back to his happy self as he was before he went in that weekend but hasn’t come without a lot of stress and anxiety

My first experience visiting the Chichester practice today has been 5 star.
All staff have been fantastic, Including the reception team, who were very patient chasing up history last minute from previous practice.
A special thanks goes to ‘Hannah, the lovely Vet that treated Alfie dog. Hannah gave me lots of tips, and really understood my circumstances. Hannah went out of her way to help.
Additional praise goes to the
immaculately clean and stunning interior within the practice.

Appalling customer care

Appalling customer care - its all about the money.

So if you think choosing a Veterinary Group because they are independent and not part of a corporate organisation - think again! After a very bad spay on my dog; there was a complication where she herniated later on and her insides were basically held by the outside skin. By being told it was an emergency and she had to stay in for urgent surgery; but then sending me home and told to only come back in the morning if I had the money, tells me that the welfare of my dog was not their first thought. When did a veterinary practice become so cold and calculated, that money is their first thought. I would like to add I never said I would not pay but I was treated so badly. Receptionists, very rude. Care towards an owner was so unprofessional and when I complained they could not honour any part refund but agreed to 'improve' care and action training!! That does not help me and the loss I have endured. 1-star is simply too much. DO NOT USE ARUN VETS IN CHICHESTER!

Not acceptable - just awful!

Appalling reception staff
Vets who will not return phone calls with reception staff saying we must book £90 appointment to speak to vet for 5 minutes!
It’s all about the money with Arun - we’re left with the inescapable feeling that the care 0f our animals is purely of secondary importance.
AVOID!

A great and very caring vet who went that little bit futher.

I took my cat in who had not pooped since I got her, the vets were caring helpful and recognised I was distressed after loosing a pet a few months back at a different vet. The lady with glasses who took my call was kind and went though everything with me, the vet himself inspired confidence and thought they might have to sedate my pet for her claw cut, but he and the other people helping him used a bigger towel and did it without sedation, which I appreciated, They even made me a coffee in case I had to wait if they had to use sedation. I truly felt my new cat had the best possible care, and have given my confidence in vets back. Arun Vets went above and beyond what I expected. I would highly recommend this vet in Chichester, they really do care, and put my old vets to shame in every way.

*This is a genuine review. I have nothing to gain by my comments but sat and observed how they treated other customers and their pets as well as my own.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. My darling boy cat went from being okay to come home to death's door and comatosed in less than 3 hours. After a chat with the vet Eleanor, in which quality of life was discussed, a euthanasia drug was administered without the catheter being properly connected, at which point our boy STOOD UP AND TRIED TO USE THE LITTER TRAY which is like something out of a Stephen King novel. And thats before then can even explain his rapid decline and comatosed state. They have left my wife and I utterly traumatised. DO NOT USE THIS VET. ONE STAR IS TOO GENEROUS AND SHUTTING THEM DOWN WOULD BE MY PREFERRED COURSE OF ACTION.

It’s all about the money….

I took my elderly cat to Arun Vets in Westergate today. I cannot fault the vets, they have been amazing. Unfortunately I had to have my cat put to sleep, he was very poorly and suffering. Before my cat was even cold, I was asked to pay, which I was more than happy to do, but not a few minutes after we had to say goodbye. It was clear myself and my husband and my friends little boy were visibly upset, I was just astounded that in our time of grief the only thing on their mind was payment. I’m not sure they are very customer focused, I believe it’s all about the money and not a vocation anymore. I’m considering finding another vets practice that care more about the animals and their owners.

No pet should be subjected to suffer

If there was zero rate then that is what I am going to choose in here. My Teddy, a stray and rescue dog who was 12-14 years old was made to suffer at the end of his life by these people. I took him out against medical advice when he was already dying and took him to Grove Lodge who were compassionate enough to honor my wishes. Teddy passed away in my arms few minutes after i took him out of this practice. He didn't even able to wait for any medication to help him pass peacefully and pain free, he passed away suffering. Sioned French who seen Teddy as emergency because he was struggling for breath, subjected Teddy to different investigations when he was obviously dying. He was already struggling for breath. His lungs was filling up with fluids. I was told by this vet that she couldn't do anything until she investigates what's going on. I had a lengthy discussions, I mentioned that Teddy was a rescue so he might be 12 or older, he had a good life, I just want him comfortable and I want to be there for him when he pass on. Not once I was offered to euthanize him when he was already dying at the time, she said she will consider euthanasia after all the investigations were done. I didn't want these investigations to be done but because we were having lengthy discussions and because she was on and on and on about all these investigations and my love for my dog, I was given false hope and agreed. Teddy was given a little bit of oxygen which only helped him a bit, and a sedative afterwards because he was still struggling but also didn't help him fully. He was still struggling. Ultrasound was done and xray was done. Then this vet wanted to keep him overnight, because they want to monitor him and if he needed oxygen and sedative, they can give him. Bear in mind, my wish is for me to be with him when he pass on. She said that her plan was to anesthesize him in the morning and do another xray because Teddy didn't stay still during the xray. I said to her, I want to take my dog home and care for him at home. She said it will be against her medical advice because if his condition deteriorates, they can give him oxygen and sedative again. Sedative and oxygen which has very little effect earlier which clearly tells them there is nothing else to do. She also insisted to do the blood test because he has Cushing's and if she will treat her for that she needed a baseline information for the future. I told her "What future are you talking about? He is already old. There is no future anymore for him. He is already struggling for breath. He is not for resuscitation, why do you still want to keep him overnight? What else can you do for him apart from oxygen and sedative?" Teddy was already dying and these people put him thru hell instead of helping him to peacefully pass on. My memory of Teddy passing was tainted by these people's greed. Where is the compassion? I received a phone call from Jenny, the practice manager the next day and all she could tell me is I signed the papers for the investigations and taking him out against medical advice. Jenny was also trying to tell me that i took Teddy out against medical advice trying to blame me for his passing. Teddy wasn't on continuous oxygen therapy. He was not on any active treatment for his difficulty of breathing. He was still struggling. Which if they had any compassion at all, they would have thought of helping him out of his sufferings. Had I not insisted on taking him out of that horrible place, Teddy would have died alone without his family who loved him dearly. These are the kind of people this practice have.

Don't assume everything is correct and being taken care of

This is a warning for any pet owners - they took great care of my dog when he unfortunately was put down and the vet at the time was very understanding. We couldn't fault them there.

However, when organising the memorials including clay paw prints of your pet and fur clippings, they took the order but missed this when ordering from the crematorium and "didn't place the full order as someone was on holiday". To add insult to injury they repeatedly lied on several phone calls to cover up the mistake that was only revealed several weeks later upon collection of the ashes (which thankfully they managed to get right).

Still tried to charge us for the memorials that couldn't be delivered as it was too late as my dog had been cremated. Then claimed this was for the euthanasia that we had already paid for. We were and still are devastated. A sorry and half price for the ashes was the response.

Never had a problem before there, but just double check everything with them as there are some serious professionalism failings.
