I signed up for Ask-Chat.ai and made an initial €1 payment. I subsequently did not use the service again.
On 5 October 2026, I was unexpectedly charged €39.99 for an automatic renewal (one week after the intial charge, paid by mistake). I noticed the charge immediately and contacted Ask-Chat.ai straight away to request cancellation and a refund. At that point, the transaction was still pending.
I explained that I had not used the service since the original €1 payment and had no intention of continuing the subscription.
Ask-Chat.ai cancelled the subscription so that there will be no further charges, but refused to refund the €39.99, relying on its refund policy.
I have made several attempts to resolve the matter directly with them, but they have now confirmed that their refusal is final.
I find this particularly disappointing given that I contacted them immediately, have not used the service, and requested the refund as soon as I noticed the renewal.
I am now pursuing the matter through the appropriate payment and consumer-protection channels.
I would recommend checking very carefully for automatic renewal terms before signing up.
