User Friendly and Comprehensive

Good value, extensive course material and lovely staff.
I left school 25 years ago without doing my GCSEs so at first the course material was very daunting and I didn’t think I would be able to learn all of the content needed to pass my exam (especially first time around). However, the course material is laid out in a way that builds on each topic over the modules which I found very useful and less overwhelming. I would highly recommend buying the course and exam package so you have all the information you need for your exam.
The only annoying thing I found (possibly my fault) was that I rushed to book my exam to give myself a deadline in my mind of when I needed to complete the course material as I needed to do it in enough time to start teacher training.
I quickly realised I had given myself too much time and needed to move my exam forward! Which I guess is a good thing but what I didn’t realise is there is a charge for this and the price varies significantly depending on the time of day and also massively increases during half term. (I hadn’t read the small print on this. So just keep that in mind, I wouldn’t have booked it until I had read all the course material).
Other than that I highly recommend Astar, when I needed to speak to staff they were always very polite and helpful both over the phone and via email. Overall, the course and exam package (even though I paid to change my exam) was much cheaper than taking biology science at my local college and I could do it in the comfort of my own home, it didn’t take me a whole academic year to complete it which was perfect for my personal circumstances as I needed the results to start my QTS pathway.

I have done my Maths and English equivalency with A star equivalency and it has gone very smooth from ordering the course to booking the exam and getting the results. All the process is straight forward, no hassal or confusion at all. If we need to have a conversation over the phone, all the staff memebers are very friendly and helpfull. Overall, the experience was very smooth.

Completing an online maths exam
I took an online maths exam. Easy and simple to book. The exam was well organised and facilitated. The online invigilator was very nice and helpful. The platform where the questions are released and answers uploaded was easy to use. All information about the exam was simple and clear. Results came one day early so that was great. Digital certificate was simple to get. I am very happy with this servise and would highly recommend it.

Passed the English exam on the first try.
I passed my English exam on the first try thanks to the course! I subscribed for one month and found the material incredibly helpful (which I believe it's a better deal). The support team is also fantastic, very responsive and quick to help. I also opted for the $60 fast results and received them in less than 24 hours. My only critique is the website interface, it feels a bit cluttered with ad-like announcements, which can give off a bit of a 'money-grab' vibe. However, the service itself is top-notch and highly recommended.

Very professional, excellent customer service. I completed my Biology and passed the first time. The course was easy to follow and there was a lot to learn.

Let down this time round!
I’ve used A Star previously and couldn’t fault them, but this time was different.
I posted my exam back on Friday, reached there by Saturday.
Monday it reached the examiner and had to wait until Thursday late afternoon for the results.
I paid for fast track, which should have been by Wednesday. Nonetheless I had to chase A Star relentlessly so try and finally get my results.
Unfortunately I have missed the submission deadline from my uni, and have now had it moved to April, this is incredibly frustrating, as I kept telling A star that I was desperate for the results. I even said ‘even if I just scrape a pass I’ll be happy, I just need the results’.
I reached out many a times, and on a few occasions spoke to a couple of really empathetic advisors who actually sounded like they cared. However I have to admit, this time A Star you seriously let me down!

Fast track marking is intended to prioritise papers once they are received by the examiner. However, with paper-based exams there can occasionally be postal delays or processing delays that are outside of our control, which can impact overall turnaround times. That said, we do appreciate that this does not change the outcome for you, and we’re sorry that the timing did not meet your expectations on this occasion.
We’re glad some of our advisers were able to offer support during this time, but we do recognise that you feel let down, and we take that seriously. If you would like to discuss your case in more detail, please contact us directly and we’ll be happy to look into it further.
Use your resources carefully
I am delighted to be continuing my PGCE journey after passing my equivalency exam with A Star Equivalency. Although it took me three attempts, the breakthrough came when I finally utilised their official resources. On my previous attempts, I relied solely on external sites like Bitesize, which weren't enough and didn't cover the brief efficiently.
My advice? Invest in the provided materials. While the upfront cost is higher, it is far more cost-effective than retaking the exam or feeling unprepared. Best of luck for anyone taking their exams in the future!
