My experience with Atelier Florentine…

My experience with Atelier Florentine is very good. After ordering some samples I ordered the wallpaper (green stripes), which arrived very quickly - I live in Sweden. The quality is excellent, easy to work with and they were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely order more, I love them!

Horrible quality for price

Sigh.

So, the Seller positions herself as a high-end producer, with hand-painted goods - aiming for the children's interieur market.

The design has caught my wife's attention, as part of our new house project, for our 3 year old little girl's room - thus the 'Dog Wallpaper', non-woven material was selected.

After a while of internet shopping from trusted sellers, one can get comfortable before getting suspicious, so having ignored the (now more clear) red flags: no phone number, no physical store, similarish/AIish showcase illustrations, mostly likewise reviews without real pictures showing results.

Note that the business also does not wish pictures to be uploaded here.

On the plus side: the ordering and shipping was as stated, no complaint there.

Quality. The quality of rolls are as ones for 15 euros in a general hardware store's section, paper thin (basically like tissue-thin). Even our contractor, a paperhanger by profession warned us before that compared to other products he's used to, the ones selected fall way short in this measure.

Having this ignored, thinking that for such price it cannot be true, the wallpapers got fitted (requiring 3 rolls). Needless to say, him being right, the overall aesthetics were just... well, not matching a 200 EUR/roll product. Colors not matching along rolls, material transparent here and there, with clear printing/manufacturing problems, even shrank, leaving little gaps inbetween.

Having the result shown to the Seller and in the meantime writing a review here, Seller convinced us that this may be a temporary material defect based on the pictures we've shown, therefore she is ready to compensate us by sending us 3, different material-base rolls of vinyl, naturally if we could just take the review down simultaneously.

So, with this in mind, and the paperhanger already on the spot, the fitted wallpapers have been taken down, waiting for the replacement ones to arrive once.

However, the next day Seller has "taken a careful look on her printer and no problems there", decided that taking also a good second look on the sent pictures too, and regardless of the repeating error patterns on all rolls, she does not stand by her decision anymore, cause all of the sudden this is clearly a fitting issue, due to the gaps inbetween.

"I do genuinely wish this situation had gone differently, and I am sorry it has come to this."

As a result, we're 600 euros in the minus, with the job to be paid twice.

Not exactly the feeling you'd wish to have for purchasing something expensive for your daughter, is it.

If you're still considering to purchase: I strongly recommended to obtain samples before to avoid surprises, and use PayPal. Though pay attention, the business refers their products as follows 'Because it is custom-made especially for you, the wallpaper can’t be returned...' (FAQ).

Dear Seller: again, it is not the gaps which is the biggest of issue. It is the overall quality what is.

P.S: due to the harsh language of the Seller, the samples are to be shown to the Consumer protection authority for an official standpoint.

Reply from Atelier Florentine

We would like to provide the full context of this situation for anyone considering a purchase.

This interaction began when you posted a review stating that the quality was not as hoped and that the wallpaper appeared too thin, with glue stains visible after installation. You had not contacted us beforehand, and we had not been given any opportunity to help you before a public complaint was made. We responded to that review pointing out that no sample had been ordered prior to purchase, and that our terms and conditions clearly state that wallpaper must be inspected before installation. Despite this, all three rolls had been hung in full before any concern was raised. Glue stains are a result of excess adhesive during installation, not a product defect.

Following our response, you reached out via email requesting posters as compensation. We were happy to arrange this. It was only after this exchange that a new issue was raised: a so-called stripe between the panels. This was in fact not a defect within the wallpaper itself, but a gap between two panels that were not placed closely enough together during installation, located exactly at the seam between two rolls. In your initial report you described this as a printing fault within the pattern. It was only later, when we investigated further, that you yourself acknowledged it could be installation-related. Our printer confirmed the file was perfect.

We offered replacement rolls in good faith based on your initial description of a possible print fault. Once the actual cause became clear, we explained our position honestly and respectfully. Our communication throughout was professional and kind, and we stand by every word.

We offer samples specifically so customers can evaluate the material before committing to a full order. We strongly recommend requesting one, as we are proud of our quality and happy for anyone to judge it before purchasing.

We have been producing and delivering wallpaper for over three years without a single complaint about our service or quality. We are sorry this experience did not go as hoped, but we are not able to accept responsibility for issues caused during installation.
