Pricing:
Very fair and competitive prices, especially compared to Hertz, Avis, and other major rental companies.
Customer Service:
Friendly and helpful staff, but operating hours are limited. Do not expect assistance late at night, especially after closing hours.
ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) Warning:
The location is inside a ZTL (restricted traffic zone). If you’re not careful, you may receive a fine months later. Pay close attention to the return instructions to avoid ZTL penalties, or return the car after 8:00 pm when ZTL restrictions are inactive.
Car Pick‑Up Location:
The car pickup is on level -4 of the parking garage in front of the train station (Parcheggio Stazione Santa Maria Novella). It is not near the Autovia office, which is about a 5‑minute walk away. This can be inconvenient if you have a lot of luggage. I strongly recommend taking photos of all sides of the car at pickup.
Tolls:
Highway tolls are very easy to pay—just bring a credit card and enter lanes marked for cash/credit.
Driving Conditions:
Roads and highways are easy to navigate once you are outside the city.
Fuel Stations:
Many gas stations in Italy close around 8:00 pm, so be sure to refuel during daytime hours.
Car Return Process:
To return the car, enter Parcheggio Stazione Santa Maria Novella. No ticket is needed—license plates (Tags) are automatically recognized. Follow the small Autovia signs to level -4, park in the designated Autovia spaces, and drop the keys in the after-hours drop box. Note: the drop box is small and not clearly labeled, so look carefully.

Do not rent from Autovia unless you want to be charged for damage you didn't cause. I was charged €857 for a windshield "chip" that was already there when I picked up the car in Florence.
I have video evidence from the pickup date showing the exact same damage. Despite me formally stating "Cliente non accetta il Danno" (Customer does not accept the damage) on the return report and filing a manual Claim Form, they ignored my protest and unilaterally charged my credit card. This is an unfair and predatory business practice. I have already escalated this to ECC-Net and my credit card company for a chargeback. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

The schedule to collect car is at 1730hrs, I reached the counter at 1645hrs, the counter staff told me that if I wanna collect at 1645, I had to pay 50 euro, but the rental of 3 days for the car is only 62 euro, if I declined to pay extra, then I had to be back at 1730, I felt it was ridiculous and no other customer in the counter then. So naturally I walked out and went back at 1735, he was entertaining another 2 customers, by the time he finished processing my order, it was almost 1830hrs, he seemed not familiar with the document processing also, took very long time to check my international driving permit, I was totally unhappy with his attitude and low efficiency. I had very positive experience with Autovia in Milano Centrale branch, but very negative with Florence statione branch, I hope Autovia would look into this case seriously, the staff represents company image, he should be professional enough to entertain customers from all nations and be flexible for collecting time (is 45 mins early is too early?). Basically this was the only negative experience for my 15-day Italian holiday.

This organization actively commits fraud against foreign customers. I rented a vehicle which was littered with damage at pick-up. I took dozens of photos of the damage with time stamps prior to taking the vehicle. Yet, they still sent me a bill for the existing damage with grainy photos. I sent them my photos of the damage already existing at pickup and they did not care. They reference a clause in their contract that you have to go back into the building and reject the car. They are creating new invoices like one way trip charge and other basic rental fees months later they are sending to me as well and I did not even rent through them but a third party.
If you are from another country, they are just going to saddle all of the aggregated damage charges on you. They don't care if you send them photo and video from pickup proving it was existing. They will just write you an email and say, well its your responsibility to pay even if you have proof the damage was there prior because you didn't come back to the agent.

We had a very pleasant rent! We got a car upgrade and had no problems. The only room for improvement was a little long waiting time when receiving the car of about 1h.

Everything went well. I suggest you rent the car with their All-Inclusive insurance. Then the pick up is fast, the return is fast, and everything works perfectly fine.

We were charged £745 for two 3mm stone chips in the Windscreen. I definitively don’t recall anything hitting the screen whilst driving so I am convinced they were pre existing. (They were almost invisible) The charge is disproportionate . Chips that small are repairable.
In addition the company couldn’t provide the car we booked (an auto). The car they did provide was dirty both inside and out
I feel we were targeted because we did not use the company’s own excess insurance. As the rep asked this before he inspected the car. Of course he denied this is company policy.
I will not be using this company again ever and recommend you don’t either.

We visited Florence about one and a half month ago and I highly recommend Autovia Firenze Santa Maria Novela office. The man at the counter was very kind and helpful and he offered us immediately the kind of the car we needed, since we were frustrated because of a booking with another office that had felt through. They offered also full insurance coverage and 24h free parking in Santa Maria Novela Station Parking, that’s a great relief with the ZTL restrictions. The picking up and return of the car is very easy, you just take it from and return it in the underground parking. Thanks to Autovia and its personnel we had a comfortable and amusing trip.

I rented a Skoda Scala from Autovia Firenze Stazione. Almost a month after returning the car, I was accused of causing an alleged scratch on the rear left door – cost: €292. The photos provided by the company do not clearly show any damage, and there is no visible scratch in the photos I took myself.
They gave me a 7-day deadline to pay, but I have not received any response from customer service for over 24 hours. Emails remain unanswered.
It seems like a very similar case to the one stated in the italian Trustpilot review by RICHIUSA SERGIO from may 9th 2025 (1 month before my rental). It might have even been the same car...
