Absolutely terrible. We arrive late at Marco Poli airport and this added over 2 hours to our journey , the staff were slow - which almost seemed to be on purpose, they were rude, didn’t offer updates,... See more

Rubbish services
Rubbish services, stay away. I rented a car from Avis at Milan Linate Airport starting on November 11th to return the car November 14th, 2024, in Pisa. And the experience was nothing short of a nightmare. While I didn’t mind that the car had large scratches on the driver’s side and small dents on the roof, the real issues began on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 13th, when I got a flat tire—and everything went downhill from there.
I called the roadside assistance number provided in my rental agreement, expecting someone to come and replace the tire. Instead, after waiting for about an hour, a tow truck arrived and towed the car away, leaving me stranded in a small village near the motorway with no replacement vehicle offered. This left me completely stuck.
I contacted roadside assistance again, explaining that I needed to be in Pisa the next day to catch my flight home. However, they informed me—yet again—that they could not provide transportation or a replacement car. I then tried contacting Avis offices in both Linate and Pisa, only to be met with automated answering systems that made it impossible to speak to a real person.
The entire experience was appalling and unacceptable. Being abandoned without any support or alternatives from a company as well-known as Avis was shocking. And to make matters worse, when I received the final invoice, I was charged for roadside assistance, an accident fee (which makes no sense), and refueling charges (how could I refule the car if it had a flat tire?)—even though I had taken out full insurance, including coverage for windows and wheels.
I would never recommend Avis or Budget to anyone. This was by far the most disgusting and disappointing experience I’ve ever had with a car rental company. Avoid them at all costs.
Great and friendly service at the FCO…
Great and friendly service at the FCO airport desk for an adhoc rental despite queue. Price was competitive. Return was easy.
SCAMMING HELPLESS CUSTOMERS
In the days following the return of my Jeep Compass rental at Rome Fiumicino Airport, AVIS Fiumicino claimed damage in the amount of EUR333.82 for a missing cargo cover and an idling charge. I tried contacting AVIS Fiumicino by phone several times, but when I started speaking they would hang up the phone on me. I eventually got a hold of them through email and they said that I needed to provide evidence to prove that the cargo cover was missing when I picked up the vehicle (I had no idea a cargo cover was part of the vehicle, so I had no way of knowing it was missing when I picked up the vehicle). As for the idling charge, the vehicle was turned off when returned. The AVIS attendant who checked the fuel and milage turned on the vehicle to do his checks and left it running while we unloaded our luggage. The attendant took pictures of the drivers display, which I had just figured he was doing to document milage and fuel. I was outraged to find out later that the technician had used the photo to make a bogus claim that I left the vehicle idling.
Having recently read reviews, it's clear this has been going on for years. Shame on AVIS corporate for allowing these disgusting acts of fraud to continue. I want a full refund for the fraudulent charges that were charged to my credit card and I want Avis Budget Group to put a stop to the systemic scamming that is taking place at the Rome Fiumicino Airport location so that your customers stop falling victim to this CRIME!!!
Avis Siena to be avoided at all costs /…
Avis Siena to be avoided at all costs / turned up last week and was in a queue of around 20 people all whom have rebooked a rental but no cars
Staff were totally utterly out of their depth and decided to firstly tell customers that a British licence was not good enough to get a rental ( which Avis publicity says completely different ) and then closed for three hours : just dumped in middle of nowhere
Not recommended!
They give me a car with a crack on the front window. They said I'm fully insured. When I bring the car back they charge me for the window. With no explanation..nothing..they take the money from my credit card..700 euros. If you rent i20..check the front window. That car it's to fool people like me.:(((.
Avis Rome con artist
I landed in Rome Italy, April 25, 2024 renting and Avis van which I had an agreement through Expedia for five day rental. Total rental cost would be €947 I rented the van. I used it for four days instead of five days, they ended up billing Me €3473. I was traveling with my daughter and her husband and four kids from Palermo Sicily to Rome plane delay instead of getting to Rome at 10 o’clock in the morning. We got to Rome at 4:30 in the afternoon. We lost a day of travel but it was OK. They didn’t have the agreement from Expedia so they gave me this paper which they claim was not the right amount. They couldn’t give me the right amount until they looked at everything on return they would give me the correct amount, what happened? They charge me all kinds of insurance or kinds of extra charges. There were no problem with the van no scratches no nothing. Everything was returned fine but they bill my credit card $3473. I asked my credit card not to pay for it, but of course they didn’t do that , I paid my credit card amount that was due but as far as Avis sales people, they are corrupt con artist They think that all Americans are stupid very upset with Rome and it’s Italian people at I would not recommend anybody to use Avis in Rome.
Never again
Customer service terrible. Nothing was explained properly. Car was dirty inside and outside, petrol tank wasn't full, there was no screen wash fluid. I received final bill in Italian. The summary wasn't right. There was position missing on the bill. The quotes on the bill were diferent than those of my agreement with British Airways ( car was rented via British Airways Club)
A good no-nonsense experience
We booked a car online for pick up in Verona near the central station. Only after completing the booking did I go and check to see the Italian Avis rating here and got a bit worried. So I sort of felt obligated to come back and day that it is possible to have a good experience with them.
Quick and friendly, English speaking people behind the counter at both pick up and return. Not trying hard to talk us into buying extra stuff like insurance, after I said we already have one. We even got a better car than we actually booked.
Unacceptable Treatment by Avis Staff at Bologna Airport – A Disgrace to Italy’s Tourism
The service at Avis was absolutely unacceptable. My wife and I were treated with complete disrespect by the Avis office manager at Bologna airport. It's shocking that such unprofessional people are allowed to represent the company and interact with customers. As tourists, this was our first interaction in Italy, and it left us with a terrible impression of the country. Italy is an amazing destination, but it deserves to have professionals who know how to properly treat visitors, not rude and disrespectful individuals like the ones we encountered!
Do not rent a car from Avis if you are travelling in Tuscany
Do not rent a car from Avis if you are travelling in Tuscany, service is non existent and poor. We hired a car for 10 days and we got a flat tyre on day 2. We waited for 4 hours for assistance only to have to get our own taxi to our hotel. It’s late in day 3 we don’t have a replacement car and we have been advised there are no cars available in Siena and we cannot have the old car back once the tyre is repaired??
Avis customer service is very poor as us Avis Siena
Look at Hertz or other companies but don’t go with Avis
Avis/Budget car rental Florence…
Avis/Budget car rental Florence airport- very rude , unhelpful and argumentative lady behind the counter. The engine of the car I was given suddenly ceased to work while driving at 90km/hr on the motorway. I kept on ringing the Avis/Budget roadside rescue and assistance number but the phone line was not answered. I also kept on ringing the airport office line and it was not answered .
I was stranded on the hard shoulder of a busy motorway, with shear drop on the other side of the barrier for over 2 hrs with no help from Avis/Budget. Eventually, I had to go to an SOS box to get help . I felt my life was in danger . I will never rent a car with Avis /Budget again and will not recommend the car rental company to anyone.
If you want to get overcharged
If you want to get overcharged, opt for Avis. For 2days and 19hrs we were charged €460 for a Fiat panda! the original rental fee was supposed to be €279 but they persisted that we have to pay €219.18 for an extra day added which we were not informed of this extra fee when we collected the car. total scammers. never again.
Systematic Fraud
Systematic Fraud. The employee in Pisa Airport will systematically identifity damages he can charge you for.
I have now experienced this 3 times.
Charged for nonexistent damage!
Returned a car to Verona Airport. 3 weeks later I’m charged €105 for nonexistent damage - I have photos of the car at the start and end of the rental to prove this. I have contacted Avis to request a refund to my bank card. To date I have only received automated email responses. I have sent 12 emails! This amounts to theft. What a way to treat a customer. Use Enterprise instead!! Cathal Ryan
Don't do it
Don't do it!
This company will prey on vulnerable customers including those with children and visitors from overseas who aren't in a position to argue at drop off when they have a plane to catch.
They don't reply to emails, but will steal your money once they have your credit card

Very poor service and limited customer care.
The staff are shared between three rental companies, making the process confusing. Accessing the car is complicated, with only basic directions provided.
I did not receive the car I had reserved; instead, I was given a 3-year-old Kia with multiple damages. Of course, upon returning the car, I was informed of a small chip on the windshield that I supposedly missed, despite taking 17 photos of other damages.
Definitely to be avoided ! Last time for me at Avis.

Servizio pessimo e accoglienza limitata.
First time I received a down grade to…
First time I received a down grade to be an Avis preferred customer. I used to rent cars from AVIS all of the world and this time I rented a car in Venice.
I am totally dissapointed since instead of give me the car I rented they give me a car with a lower category for the same price and completely crushed by hailstorm.
Scammed for damage that was already on the car
Picked up vehicle in perugia, was told to record any damage, which i noted, they had noted the front pumber damage as the rear (that too had damage), took photo. Returned vehicle to rome airport, guy said there is no note of damage to front despite me showing otherwise, take it up with avis, who have Taken over 1000 euros from my card, now trying to get this back, have used avis for many years, not any more, id give them 0 stars uf there was that option, go to italy by car, avoid avis
The agent offered me an insurance even when he saw I had the exact same one
The agent offered me an insurance even though I had already had the same (I thought it was different) and he lied to me about the price. He said it was 19 euros and it was 19 per day plus taxes.
In the end I am pretty sure they lied about somebody trying to get into the car because they did not inspect the car prior the renting and afterwards they told me: Yeeeees, this is very common, it happens all the time especially with the type of car we gave you and you didn/t notice anything but we know what to look for.
They still didn't return the deposit.
They purposefully withhold info from you so they could rip you off in the end.
Chaos at Florence airport
Chaos at Florence airport, 45 min wait for shuttle bus then 75 min wait in queue to pick up the pre-booked and pre-paid car. Would have gone to a different company if I had not pre-paid. The promised quick pickup was not true. Staff overwhelmed, too few on duty which for a July Saturday in a tourist resort in not acceptable
