Scammed by Avis again

Interesting to read previous reviews, seeming to suggest systemic issues with Avis.
Second rental in 2 weeks and again so many problems, this time at Malpensa
1. Car seats dirty and certainly not Covid clean
2. Car delivered with the tank not completely full, luckily this was sorted out before driving off and EUR6 deducted from the bill
3. I have been an Avis Preferred customer for many years and one of the benefits is reduced paperwork on arrival. So I was instructed to go straight to the car park, where the car was not in its marked bay and staff incredibly rude shouting at my wife that we have to go locate it in the parkade ourselves.
4. It seems to me that Preferred customers are seen as a cash cow for easy revenue. In many years of renting from Avis I have never taken the additional insurances, yet when the final invoice arrives I am billed EUR76 on top of the reservation for unrequested windscreen damage and insurance waiver fees. At no point was I asked if I wanted these, they were simply added to the bill.
I find it unbelievable that a company can operate like this in the 21st century in the midst of a pandemic with fraudulent scam invoicing and appalling customer service. A company that always charges more than quoted, avoid it.

If you are in Italy

If you are in Italy, do not rent with AVIS, they took over euro 50 from my credit card, for services as NONE fuel and delay drop off, completely out the blue. After reading most of the reviews, it is crystal clear they try to steal money from the customer. I ll not rent with them any more. Car not clean especially with COVID19, and not correpondent to what I have booked. It was from Roma Termini Station. Customer service, I had the nightmare to speak with Damiano, Patrizia and Alex completely useless, they are there just to get your money. It is not a customer service at all. POOR POOR EVERYTHING, FAR AWAY FROM AVIS ALL PLEASE.

Dopo aver letto la maggior parte delle recensioni, è chiaro che provano a rubare denaro al cliente. Non affitterò più con loro. Auto non pulita soprattutto con COVID19 e non corrispondente a quanto prenotato. Era dalla stazione di Roma Termini. Servizio clienti, ho avuto l'incubo di parlare con Damiano, Patrizia e Alex completamente inutili, sono lì solo per prendere i tuoi soldi. Non è affatto un servizio clienti. POVERO POVERO TUTTO, LONTANO DA AVIS TUTTI PER FAVORE

Rip off - AVOID

Avis did not pay back my deposit in full. I have made several complaints and they are just playing pathetic games by asking me to constantly resend the documents I've already sent, when I then request an update on my complaint I get the same response from a rep called Caleb Manning which is....we are still investigating your complaint. This complaint was filed in May it is now October. Avoid this company, they are a total disgrace and rip off merchants.

extra money out without reason

I paid for a week: 204.83 and then other 164.87 for the insurance for 1 week rent between 23/7 and 30/7
Today, out of nowhere, Avis took out an additional 50 without sending any information about it....

This company is dishonest

This company is dishonest. They will lie to you straight in your face and overcharge you when they can. My experience with the agency in Milano Centrale is too lengthy to describe. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else, especially if you are a tourist.

Terrible experience AVIS bologna. We hired two cars at avis bologna…

We hired two cars at avis bologna airport. One car ( a 9 persons bus) broke dwon the first day. After 2 days I had to accept a smaller car and had to go to another city to get it.
On return of my car they said that my tire was flat! There was nothing wrong with it !!( foto). ''No, but in an hour it will be flat.''

At home my credit card was credited for 500 and 400 euro's!!! I had to pay for a new tire! and probably for damage to the second car: but I never saw an invoice . I tried to get one, but there was no reaction. They do not pick up the phone, they have no E mail adres. AVIS Italy did not react.

NEVER hire a car from AVIS or BUDGET car ( same desk) . I had al lot of bad experiences with car rental in general, but this was the worst.

We had a very good experience overall

We had a very good experience overall. Giulia at the FCO airport (Rome) was very helpful and the process of check in and check out at Naples was very smooth.
We learnt later that Giulia is the manager at FCO and she helped us change the timing of the reservation without any extra charge. We were offered a very expensive all risk insurance but we declined as we had basic cover anyway.
We were very concerned about the Avis Italy reviews but our experience was different and very positive.
We even got a text on the day of the car return with google map so it was easy to locate the exact location for the drive.
After the car rental finished we got a telephone call the next day to confirm that everything was smooth.

The only problem we faced was that about 4 days before the pick up we got 2-3 calls from Avis but we could not hear anything from the other side. Apparently it was to confirm the contract on phone. We tried to ring them on every possible number for 3-4 days several times but no one picked up. We could not contact via the avis preferred app either so had to send an email to them.
In any case FCO office sorted out everything when we were there in person for the pick up.
Our experience overall was excellent with the quality of the car as well. The process of check out was also smooth. So far we have no unexpected charges and they had given us a zero balance printed account at Naples at the check out.
We will not hesitate to rent again. Hopefully Avis will continue the good work and it is reflected in other people's experience as well.

This company is an embarrassment

This company is an embarrassment, closer to a fraud. The have customer service in spain only for the whole of europe, and they don't have any connection t the local offices. they promise cars that they don't have, in offices that so not exist even. NEVER BOK A CAR with avis unless you have some masochistic wish list.

Worst renting experience ever

We had the worst experience renting from Avis in Italy. A trip from Florence to Venice, in Venice no one was in the office. We were told to park the car in a garage and drop the keys in the mailbox. Later we were charged EUR 300 extra, Avis claims we returned the car two days late. It's impossible to get a hold of anyone, emails bounce back. We have rented many cars in different countries but never experienced anything like this. Better take your money elsewhere!

Do NOT hire from Avis in Italy

We have now had 2 bad experiences with Avis in Italy. First was with the condition of a car rented in La Spezia......car was dirty and not in good condition. Second was with a rental from Avis at Lake Como. We ordered and paid for a BMW Series 1 but were provided with a Fiat 500. We've written to Avis on numerous occasions since early in 2020, and today been advised that:

"As per the website and the internal data, the received vehicle does match the requested group, therefore from that point of view the charge and the received vehicle are both correct. Please extend our apologies to the customer, but since there were no mechanical issues with the vehicle we are unable to offer compensation at this time.

Kindly note, this is our final decision and this decision will not be overturned.

Hope the above is clear and will be of help. "

The car provided did NOT match the requested group in terms of engine size or equipment fit. Avis Italy will simply not acknowledge our written concerns, and our request for a refund to reflect the car provided has been denied.

DO NOT HIRE A CAR FROM AVIS ITALY - you will be disappointed.

Absolutely horrific and borderline…

Absolutely horrific and borderline criminal.
After booking a Mercedes for 2 weeks I’m told I need to go to the garage with my 5 year old and 5 month old. 1.5h later I’m told that my car is not available. I’m told I need to wait but no one k it’s when are car like this will arrive. After I lost it and spoke to the manager, I’m being given a Seat for the same price. I’m told it has less insurance included than the Mercedes and need to pay extra. Contract takes another hour to prepare. Employee charges my card but tells me he does not have the contract because his printer isn’t working....at this point my family is reduced to tears, literally. Zero customer service. My baby has been breathing fumes for 2 hours in the garage. Not sure if sheer incompetence or something else.

DO NOT RENT AVIS!

DO NOT RENT AVIS!! ANY AMERICAN, DO NOT USE AVIS!!!! we rented a car two months ago while in Rome. They made us pay $290 for car insurance for 4 days (even though I have car insurance that covers ny rentals)... these tw*ts waited 2 months, then charged me a 60 dollar administration fee for a parking ticket... THAT DOESNT EVEN INCLUDE THE TICKET. Thats just their administrative fee. The whole time we had the car, it was fee for this fee for that. Its best to not waste your time. Stay with Enterprise.

DO NOT RENT- YOU WILL BE SCAMMED

as others have pointed out DO NOT RENT from avis in italy. I and my colleague were just scammed by avis bergamo airport. we rented and returned cars in january (2 month sgao) and were invoiced and charged the correct price. great. Now they suddenly charge our cc for $50. each and it is not traffic violation.
they just changed the billing price for the rentals and added $50. we will of course dispute and get it back from my cc but i think they are probably doing this with everyone now because they are shut down due to virus us and have no income.
so they think they might as well try to scam previous customers.
anyway hertz and sixt and europecar are all good options in italy so f..k avis.
My whole company now will not use them in italy. so join the BOYCOTT. LETS MAKE SURE THE CROOKS ARE OUT OF BUSINESS

Scam Scheme

The Avis-Budget employees developed at the Naples Airport a kind of scam scheme. They charged me 235 EUR for a old small scratch (1.5 cm) on the rear plastic bar of the car. While, at the pick up of the car the contract was 100% electronic, and nobody physically delivered me the car, I found it in a unlighted parking (at 21.00, in the winter). I thought the small scratch is marked in the contract or, being on the rear back plastic bar is not so important to be mentioned. At the return, also in the night, the guy in charge with car inspection.. looked directly to the scratch, like he knew about it. Then after an argument he convinced me to accept it, telling me the penalty is only 100 eur (at the office they started from the 100 EUR and they added another 2 commissions and the VAT... and I paid 235 EUR). Probably this is the way they are improving their financial results, or they are covering past losses... but it is a shame that such a company exists!
Avoid them .. no matter the price!

Beware Avis rip off

We arrived at the Siena office at 1000hrs to pick up our vehicle but it was closed and nobody there. Only after banging on the door did someone appear and open the office. The man was quite abrupt and unpleasant, asked if I wanted insurance (I said no) and provided the rental document with a diagram of the car that didn’t appear to have any marks on it (there was a tiny one I later discovered).
We were directed across the road to our vehicle, illegally parked with lights flashing. It was dirty outside and inside, it was drizzling rain but it was expedient to proceed. Some time later what I thought had been foggy windows from the weather was not. The inside of the windscreen was filthy and would have not been cleaned since delivered to Avis. Had to get a detergent to clean it so we could proceed.
The vehicle was fine and then we got to Rome.
Finding the drop off wasn’t easy and having Avis marked on the GPS we hired convenient except it was pick up points which are totally useless. Fortunately the nice lady at Rome Station directed us and contacted the people that we were on our way.
On arrival a pleasant young man, obviously a migrant was inspecting the car with a spotlight! I asked him why and was told that any mark more than 2.5mm had to be noted and if he missed anything he would have money deducted from his pay!!!
There was a tiny mark on the front wheel rim and a crack in the passenger side mirror housing which had not been on the form.

I was then told I was liable for the so called damage!

I was not informed by your Siena office of this onerous requirement re damages. The agent did not go over the vehicle with me, he in fact didn’t get out of his seat in the office!
The car was dirty, it was drizzling , illegally parked on the street with no shelter and I am expected to microscopically inspect it for marks greater than 2.5mm. No!!
I had a look , there was no obvious damage except for a rear panel which was noted on the form and I left.
I am now presented with an extraordinary bill for damages, none of which will ever be repaired by Avis because they are so minor that they were only noted under spotlight!

I had planned on making a complaint about the unsatisfactory “service” from your Siena branch but this is even worse and leaves an unpleasant odour after dealing with Avis.

This company is very unreliable

This company is very unreliable. I will never book them again.

I rented a car which we had to wait 2 hours for. The guy at Avis Giardini Naxos took 2 hours to tell us our car was not available. Mind you we booked this in advance. He awaited another couple to arrive then drove us all up to the Toarmina Avis centre. As there were no cars available he said.

After further waiting half an hour the car they gave us was the car he drove us up in - So in fact the car was there they just used it to take us all up to the other location to get the other couple a car ( they had nothing to do with our booking) And was not the car we booked let along any type of upgrade.

After receiving the car we didn't get to do a damage report as we were already pressed for time having to get a ferry to calabria for our next stay.

Upon returning the vehicle they plugged us afterwards AFTER dropping it off at the airport - not even the same day it took me weeks to get a report onw hat the charge was for.
The report saying we did damages which we did not - so they scammed us. I am still in dispute with them as well as the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and still awaiting our refund for false charges.

NEVER WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY THEY HAVE BEEN SO DIFFICULT AND UNLAWFUL IN THEIR PROCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avis Budget Milan is the most dishonest…

Avis Budget Milan is the most dishonest rental company. My rental car has brokedown in swiss. Calling the breakfown service many times. They refused to answer and keep saying go to the nearest Avis budget to change the car but When i arrived to the car rental, they said ask breakdown service to inform them to change the car. They make us like a ping pong. Plus they supply the dented car which can collapsed anytime. Avis Milan please be honest to your Customer. Stop cheating your customers
