Never ever Avis - cheating is an art for them.
Booked a Opel Cascade convertible from Avis Nice through Travellocity - and got the normal offer for the self risk insurance. My Mastercard covers that, so i ticked no thank you. At the desk in Nice i could not get the Opel, but for the very small amount of 70 euro pr day !! i would have a BMW instead. I insisted on my Opel, and ended up in a Cooper Mini, which i was told was a huge upgrade - actually it is a huge downgrade. Then the guy tried to sell me the refueling, which he claimed was a great saving. I have tried that in Miami and got a rip off - so no thanks Avis. Then to the big surprise he told me that there was absolutely no insurance on the car - because i booked it on an US website. Off course i protested heavily, how on earth could i know that, it was never mentioned when i booked the car - but nothing helped.
I went away in a smaller car then i booked, with a self risk of 25.000 euro - i repeat - twenty-five thousands euro.
When i checked the car for scratches - there were several more than mentioned on the contract, and the moment we left the Parking area the gas meter dropped a pin - the tank wasn't full.
The next day i went back to Avis, to complain another time on the very bad treatment, and tried to buy the insurance - and got no where, but was told i could give the car back, and rent it again for a new price including insurance - off-course i would then loose the money i already paid - that was Avis policy.
I returned the car to Avis and went to Citer to get another car - and will never ever rent a car from Avis. They can come up with so many different stories, and you have no chance to convince them of anything else.
Avis - We try harder - to get your money and screw you.
