I’ve been camping for 40 years and this campsite ranks amongst my very favourite. Incredibly peaceful and just love what the owners are doing to respect nature and tread lightly. I’ll be back.
We stayed at the simply camping site which was just lovely. Perfect views and very quiet. I slept like a baby :) since there’s only 4 huge pitches, it’s very private. Shower and toilet are close an... See more
Beautiful holiday spaces set in over thirty acres of biodiversity rich land in rural North Cornwall. We offer exclusive camping: each pitch in its own field with exclusive use compost toilet and gas-powered shower. You can choose from Great Orchard Cabin, Speckled wood, Gatekeeper or Brimstone. Every pitch offers something different - why not try them all? All our spaces include fire pits and logs or charcoal can be bought onsite.
Lower Bakesdown Farm, Marhamchurch, EX23 0HJ, Bude, United Kingdom
I have stayed here for three years running and have never grown tired of the peace and quiet this site provides.

The Cabin is described as a no-frills back-to-nature experience and this it provides. Complete seclusion, no wifi or electricity, yet enough convenience in the private kitchen and shower/toilet to keep things comfortable even if the weather doesn't play as you would like (2024 summer has been on the whole rubbish!). It provided the perfect opportunity to reconnect with the family, enjoy some wholesome conversation around the kitchen table with no phones getting in the way. In many ways, perfect. Thank you Bakesdown!

This is an absolutely perfect site with friendly hosts. We stayed at Brimstone, which is a large, secluded pitch in its own field. The loo, shower and kitchenette area are tidy and clean, and the communal fridge freezer is a short walk down the quiet lane - the allocated charging lockers are a brilliant touch.
We had a blissful time relaxing around the fire pit in the evenings, watching bats, owls and the wonderful night sky. If you enjoy peaceful semi-wild camping away from the crowds, this is the place for you!
The site is very conveniently located only a short drive away from Bude, whilst feeling secluded and peaceful. This was our 3rd visit and I'm sure we'll be back again!

We have just returned from our third stay at Bakesdown farm and we absolutely love it there. Everything is very back to basics, but at the same time the cabins are equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Cosy cabin for sleeping and relaxing ( it comfortably accommodates two adults and two small children), a hot shower, clean compost loo and a kitchenette with all the cutlery, crockery and pans etc you would need. There is ample of space for the children to play outside and it is an extremely quiet site. We will definitely be visiting again and again!

Always a lovely peaceful stay here away from wifi and TV’s. Superb for enjoying the birds, butterfly's and bee’s. Nice and close to widemouth for lots of surf and rock pooling. Love it every year.

We love this place and have visited several times over the past years. Its quite, secluded and peaceful, wild camping with luxurious!
The Speckled Wood pitch is our preferred option, a large field, surrounded by woods and deep hedgerows. Surrounded by wild flowers, graases, wildlife and with no light pollution, amazing views of the stars at night. The kitchen hut provides shelter from the worst of the cornish weather and really does have everything you need for your trip. The real highlight for me is the shower, it's simply the best campsite shower I've ever used, loads of hot water! The whole site has been thought and planned out really well but still feels rustic and wild.
Anna is a great host, always around if you need help but pretty much let's you get on with it. Bude and other beaches are an easy drive away

We love bakesdown! We’ve been visiting bakesdown for many years now and every time is amazing. It’s great to get away from everyday life, into the peace and quiet. The kids loved camping and the site is a great base to get to some lovely beaches, bays and coastal walks. We will be back again!

This is total isolation camping. We stayed on the Brimstone pitch which is exclusively for you. We saw nobody at our pitch for the whole stay. Separate toilet, shower facilities and our own fire pit. No queueing for toilets or showers and no pots and pans being bashed around you at 5 in the morning. No noise in the evening and a lovely lay in! Very relaxing and perfect if you want to be away from the hussle and bustle especially in the school holidays. Only 10 minutes drive to Widemouth Bay. Fridge, freezer and charging lockers available at the main farm building.

The Cabin is beautifully designed and gives you lots of space in beautiful surroundings. With its well- equipped field kitchen, lovely firepit area and surprisingly unsmelly compost loo it's a great sanctuary away from busy beaches and traffic. It works its magic on us every time we come. Thank you to Anna and Brad of the Bakesdown team.

Ok, so I’m slightly biased here - this was our 7th visit - so pretty obviously we loved it. The kids lovingly refer to the Great Orchard Cabin as the “Holiday Shed” but our name doesn’t do it justice. A beautiful quiet spot with loads of space, friendly owners and a unique holiday. Surrounding towns are wonderful and so much to do - or you can just head to the beach and eat ice cream and take it easy! We love it and will be back for visit 8 next year 😜

Wonderful holiday as always. Love being in the middle of nowhere. The lodge, kitchen area, shower and loo are all well maintained and mean you just have to turn up and enjoy.

We've enjoyed staying at the Bakesdown Farm Campsite many times, both simple camping, exclusive camping and at the cabin. It's a charming rural setting, and particularly at the Cabin, great to have comfy beds and a hot shower, whilst still feeling submerged in nature. We love visiting Sommerleaze beach in Bude, and being able to borrow body boards from the farm was great. My favourite part has to be stargazing whilst wrapped up by the fire.

A stunning spot, the owner and family are really helpful and friendly, the wildlife is amazing. Listening to the birdsong in the morning and evenng and watching the bats hunting over "our" field was a joy. Life slowed down and we spent our mornings happily watching the cows coming out of the milking parlour in the field across the valley.
We were on "Brimstone", a pitch to yourself with its' own shower and toilet and two firepits.
However the site is down narrow lanes and is quite isolated. You can have up to 8 people camping for company, but you need to have a car to get to the nearest shop/pub etc.

A wonderful spot tucked away in north Cornwall. Beautiful cabin, fab facilities, idyllic location. Friendly and helpful owner who can't do enough for you, but also leaves you in peace. So many birds, and we even saw a hedgehog. This was our 4th trip and we'll definitely be back!

5th visit to Bakesdown, 2nd time at Great Orchard Cabin. Weather ended up being better than expected but we were quite happy cosying up in front of the log burner and reading a book (Dave did take 1 🤣, which we will return). SO COZY AND QUIET 🥰 Perfect location if you want peace and quite, surrounded by apple blossom and wildlife. Hosts are extremely helpful and friendly if you have a problem, not that you would as its just perfect. Kitchen is great with everything you need and its really great having your own shower and toilet there. There's even a washing line which is very useful. Didnt use firepit outside this time but we have before and love sitting there listening to the 🦉Sorry we rushed off without saying goodbye but had a trip to Newport to do 🤨. Anyway we are already looking forward to returning again in September 😀 We maybe back before with the tent 😀

We had a wonderful time We would have loved to stay longer Just ran out of time This is a lovely campsite and we will definitely come back Thank you
We stayed at the simply camping site which was just lovely. Perfect views and very quiet. I slept like a baby :) since there’s only 4 huge pitches, it’s very private.
Shower and toilet are close and very cosy. Only thing missing was warm water for dishwashing at the site. And maybe possibility for laundry, but maybe I’m just used to slightly bigger campings in France where this is always present.
Overall, we had a very wonderful stay! Highly recommended!!
As a returning guest to Bakesdown farm and the wonderful orchard cabin it did not disappoint although the weather was horrendous at times this year it still was lovely in the cabin with the log burner going and the comfy beds
it’s just such a lovely setting with exclusive privacy and the shower is amazing especially as you are in a field I’ve already rebooked for next year I would recommend
