It was my husband’s grandson’s 21st birthday, and we decided it was the perfect moment to pass on a family heirloom. I had given his granddaughter my own engagement ring for her eighteenth, so it felt fitting to gift the grandson the engagement ring I had given his grandfather some twenty‑eight years ago.

The ring was beautifully polished, and Kate Baldwin engraved it superbly at very short notice, allowing us to present it to him on his birthday. We were delighted with the craftsmanship and the care she took.

I had a ring designed and made by James Baldwin , from start to finish the process was seamless, I collected last week and they even cleaned up my other rings while I waited , all the staff at Baldwin Jewellery are fantastic knowledgeable and always helpful.

From the first visit to collecting the cufflinks for my son’s wedding every step was professional and perfect. Kates engraving is superb and is the icing on the cake.

Having been bequeathed a beautiful large opal ring,we decided to make it more wearable by transposing it into a pendant.
Jamie and the Baldwin team expertly designed a bespoke pendant, which I am extremely delighted with.The craftsmanship is amazing.

I visited Tavistock today specifically to find Baldwins Jewellers to leave a delicate diamond earring in to be mended, having badly bent the post. I was expecting to have to leave the piece to be collected another time, however, James interrupted what he was doing to do the repair on the spot for me!
That kindness was totally unexpected so I hope to return soon, when I have more time, to choose a gift for myself from their utterly stunning window display of temptation!!

The Baldwin team made my dream engagement ring - I couldn’t be happier with it! My fiancé proposed with a temporary ring to allow me to choose my own, as he knew I wanted quite a specific gold bezel style. I found one in Baldwin’s that was exactly the sort of thing I wanted but they only made it in platinum. Baldwin’s therefore put in a specific custom order for the ring to be made in gold and kept me up to date with its progress. The customer service really made the whole experience feel so special and I couldn’t recommend them more!

I stumbled across Baldwin Jewellers as I had been keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect aquamarine ring

Living near Exeter I had been to all of the local shops and had over a period of approx 2 years been waiting to find the perfect ring. They were all either too big or too small or not quite the right style or were set in white gold rather than platinum which is what I wanted.

In January sadly my grandad passed away and it motivated me want to take the plunge to finally go for it with the ring so that I had something in memory of him.

I trawled the internet for local jewellers who may also make rings in house.

I went to a well known independent jeweller in Exeter but I wasn’t comfortable with briefing a member of staff for them to then brief the maker. I wanted to be talking to the maker themselves. That’s when I found James at Baldwin jewellers.

I travelled over an hour down to Tavistock to have a look at some of their rings I tried lots of different styles and sizes with no luck so I decided to go for a bespoke made ring. This was my first time having something made for me but from the second I met him James gave me confidence in going for it.

The process was quite interesting firstly we talked through what I liked about the rings that were in store and shared photos of rings I had seen online that I liked.

James created a number of digital CAD images of a potential ring. He gave me a few options for rings with claws and without and we agreed in principle what he was going to create.

Next came the stones. James sourced a number of different aquamarine stones and diamonds of different quality (including real diamonds or lab grown diamonds). There was a selection of different costs as well as colouring and cut and I visited to select the stones of my choice.

James didn’t try to sell me the most expensive he was really good at talking me through the colourings and quality whilst balancing the cost.

Next James 3D printed a version of the ring without the stones so that I could try it to ensure it sat nicely on my finger and gave me an idea of how big it was etc. I also liked that I could keep the 3D printed version, it felt like a nice touch.

Following all of the decisions being made James got to work. The ring was made and hallmarked then the stones were set into the ring

Today I have been to collect the ring and I could not be happier! It is stunning and something really really special!

Jewellery is so personal and I was nervous before I saw it (worried that I had made all of the right choices) but I had nothing to worry about James and the team have created something truly stunning!

It’s not just a ring.. it’s a memory, a reminder of my grandad and I guess one day it will be passed on to my family members to enjoy. Having not had children I often think about what will live on to remind people of me in years to come and I know this ring will be cherished by my family and live on beyond me!

This all sounds very deep but that is what James and the team are creating and they are doing it exceptionally!

One last thing I love is that Baldwin Jewellers aren’t just a jewellers! The family history of this business family is something to be proud of and the broach that James’ late dad created for the late queen is stunning and another example of the love and craftsmanship that they have for what they do. James and his sister run the company and that is a lovely thing!

We had a very successful appointment to purchase a special anniversary gift. James was very knowledgeable and gave advice regarding an item we had brought. So many beautiful pieces that we came away with something extra, in addition to the anniversary item! The staff were welcoming and friendly and the adjustment required was done whilst we went away and had lunch.
Exceptional service

Reliable advice when dealing with an insurance claim for a lost diamond in an engagement ring. Clear quote, making the insurance claim straightforward. A new setting required which was completed to an excellent standard, it’s like a brand new ring, rather than one 30+ years old. Really happy with the quality and service received.

The team at Baldwins have recently undertaken a number of jewellery rejuvenations for me. Throughout the whole process from the first point of contact until final delivery of the last items, the team have lived up to their reputation of being highly professional, creative, skilful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and I am delighted with the results.

James made my engagement ring, wasn't easy as the opal I chose was delicate and not easy to work with. But he did it and we are over the moon. It is unique and has meaning to me and the mr. Thank you james

James and the team helped me to remodel into a new setting a diamond which my Mother left to me. After many planning meetings, emails to and fro I now have the most exquisite new ring containing my lovely Mum's stone which Dad bought for her. So full of sentimentality but absolutely stunning as it is set to continue with the family for years and years to come.
