Rip Off Bananatree Soho
We went to the Soho branch:
The food was good, however the staff were not, they tried to rip us off with drinks we ordered that never arrived, then argued with us when we questioned it. They also added a £30 service charge which we didn’t pay!!! 2 for 1 cocktails on a Saturday night are always to good to be true!!!! Their cocktails were out of a can!!! We paid £12 for 2 cans of cocktails!! RIP OFF!! We’ll never go back and will not recommend!
Recently opened at Gunwharf Quays
Recently opened at Gunwharf Quays we thought we would give it a try for our anniversary lunch. A mouthwatering menu, it took us ages to decide, eventually going for Vietnamese Spring Rolls & Vegan Gyoza starters. So lovely we wanted something to sup up the left over dip when our plates were clean!
For mains we both went for curry: Beef Rendang and Thai Red Seafood Curry. The beef was wonderful, so tender, no grizzle. My fish curry was just as lovely, the sauce flavours disguising the fish taste (I told my husband he could have eaten it - he dislikes fish) I ate more of the rice than I normally would just not to waste the sauce.
Staff were lovely, a buzzy busy place considering it’s a Thursday. Will definitely return!
Convent Garden
We went to convent garden branch- terrible food - greasy and no flavours what so ever- Never again
A good experience
We went to Banana Tree in West Hampsted. The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was very accommodating. The food was really good and we loved the 2-4-1 cocktails.
We’re definitely going back.
Food poisoning
Got food poisoning from their massaman. Emailed them to just make them aware but they didn’t even have the decency to acknowledge it. Won’t use again.

Booked a table at Haywards Heath for Saturday, fantastic food and great service. We had a great time helped by Kim and Mariela.
Waited 1 hour for our main course. Not acceptable no matter what.
They forgot our main course and we got it after I asked where the main course was...we waited almost an hour for it. A waitress called Kelley was also rather rude to one of the people wtih us. I would not go back.
No doubt they will reply with the usual apologies and what ever but do you want to wait one hour for your food? Not acceptable.
The food was excellent
The food was excellent, with great variety of choice; the atmosphere was pleasant, the music not too loud; we were served by Ajith who was very attentive. Not on the cheap side, but I highly recommend it.
Amazing
Amazing. I have only been to Banana tree twice, and it would take no convincing to make me go back there! The food was absolutely delicious and so authentic too, not to mention the beautiful seating and wonderful staff! I definitely recommend the Prawn and Chicken Pad Thai (It is to DIE for!) 10/10!

Please don't make me go back to the Bananatree!
This was the place that we booked for a large family gathering as it was close for us all to get to and we all love Thai food, so a win, win all round. So, how disappointed was I to be served up some real not so unauthentic crud! and not cheap crud either!
We ordered a Thai chicken dish which sounded amazing if a little expensive at £18 so when it arrived I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it looked exactly like a Bernard Mathews chicken escalope (2 for £2.25) but sliced up, I was more than a little peeved so say the least. My mother in law had a king prawn Thai curry, a dish that is integral to a Thai restaurant surely, but it only had 4 prawns in it and was so watery it was more like green soup, a snip at £18.50. I could keep going, nothing they served was worth the visit.
I just kept hoping that they didn't ask 'how was your meal madam' because I was going to tell them exactly what I thought, but I didn't want to spoil the evening especially as it was my Mother in laws 76th birthday.
On a slightly happier note, the staff were very friendly and helpful however, they didn't understand us and it was a trial to order.
You might think I am being over critical, but when you are paying the best part of £500 for a meal, you have expectations.... even the table behind us were complaining, so that kinda tells you all you need to know!
Bananatree Henley, dont walk past, walk in.
What a breath of fresh air this establishment is! We now visit every time we come to Henley. The Lady that runs the place, a full of character & charming Irish lady won our hearts first! Engages with everyone that walks through the door! She remembers everyone or maybe it was just us as my partner likes to wear shorts 24/7. Then it came to the food! WOW... Gorgeous authentic tasting Thai food, and to top it off they have buy on cocktail get one free ALL day! Whats not to Love! Cannot wait to get back. Thanks guys. Hayley & Tim
Absolute rubbish
Absolute rubbish. Slow service, food warm at best. Forgot to ask them to deduct the £10 deposit, they never forget the service charge though
Not worth the money
Maybe my husband and I had an unlucky dinner date but the food was average at best and super expensive. We’re both calamari lovers and theirs was the worst we’ve ever had. Nothing looked or tasted fresh or semi fresh and the whole dinner set us two back £72. Not worth the money at all.
Incomplete order and awful food
Dreadful food and an incomplete order. Very disappointing as it’s the second time we’ve been let down by these guys.
Great lunch with my family at the Bath…
Great lunch with my family at the Bath branch! Staff was lovely and helpful.
Lunchtime menu
Went at lunchtime today. The service was excellent as we were going to the matinee performance at the theatr with limited time. The food was excellent and most enjoyable and it was inexpensive. All in all we couldn’t fault it.
Delicious food
Visited the one at Bulkring in Birmingham. Great service and a very tasty meal
Disappointing
Went to Banana tree Haywards Heath. Service was great, NO Complaints there.
I ordered Char grilled duck with hoisin and cashews, this should have come with asian slaw £15.95, there was no slaw just a small amount of lettuce and a few slithers of carrot. Rice comes seperate from £3.65-£4.25.
Although this had no chilli symbol, there was definitely quite a bit of heat. Not what I was expecting 😕
There was also 12.5% service charge added, but you could have taken off.
Would I eat here again NO! Expensive for what you get in my opinion.
Unbelievably poor quality food and service
horrible service and unbelievably poor food quality
We visited Chelmsford Banana tree last month and picked a grilled chicken and a Seafood Laksa. we got very small three grilled chicken thighs which more or less looked like two small thighs and nothing else. I actually queried if this is a starter but we spent a hefty £16 for this as a main.
Seafood Laksa in the menu said it comes with a variety of seafoods however I got was a watered down soup with only 2 prawns. I sent the soup back saying it is too watery as it had no flavour. they heated it and reduced the same soup and gave me a half a bowl of soup. Will never go again! Avoid at all cost!!!!
