Worst bank in Spain, possibly the world?

It's hard to find words to describe these utter scoundrels. I wouldn't even call them a bank, but rather "a group of incompetent individuals who ignore everything you say and do, and then try to sell you insurance products".

There are so many awful aspects to this bank that it makes me tired just thinking about them. They take money whenever they want for whatever they want with no prior warning. They offer a "fee free" account, which generally means you'll be paying at least €300 in fees every single year. The list just goes on....

How the EU allow this kind of nonsense is totally beyond me.

Please do yourself a favour and avoid this dreadful excuse for a bank.

The worst bank

The worst bank. No idea how to treat their clients. Zero customer fidelity policy, nothing. Like if they were a bunch of broken robots who got the wrong job. Really lame.

Being customer of Banco Sabadell since…

Being customer of Banco Sabadell since 2018 I also had contracted an insurance for my house at Sabadell. In a related matter I had contacted them 2 years ago and since then on a regular basis. In this period I got no answer at all, my lawyer and accountant contacted them meanwhile several times as well with no reaction whatsoever. At the 12th of March 2024 I presented myself at Sabadell Agency in Arenys de Mar in order to close my account for the 19th of March 2024 and signed the related paperwork. My account was as requested at value 0.00.- on that given period. My order was ignored and fees for the "service" of Sabadell continue to pile up. My "gestors" in this institution change all the time, this to say that nobody is ever responsible for anything in this company. This seems to be part of the firm's strategy in order to take their clients money in exchange for a very poor service, this expression chosen to be polite. When you finally decide to quit you will be confronted with unfriendly attitude and at the end your order will be simply ignored... Conclusion: STAY AWAY

Reported Fraud on my card (600€)

Reported Fraud on my card (600€). No contact from their fraud office so I contacted them a few weeks later. They said my case was closed, no explanation, just that I would not get my money back. Zero customer care, zero communication. An absolute disgrace.

Ice age bank!

I haven´t use my bank account for a while. And now I rememeber why. The bank has blocked my account for no reason and all process are either by phone or you have to go to the phisical branch.
None of the process are online and Its feel I~m back on time when I face all theyr procedures.
If they haven´t improved their online process with the pandemic I don´t know what will.
I just hope I´m able to acess my account and run away from them as fast as I can and take my banking else where.

El pitjor servei hipotecari! / The worst mortgage service!

Quina broma!

The worst mortgage service!
I wanted information about a mortgage. The person responsible for mortgages at the Barcelona Gran Via office said that in order to get the details I needed to send in more information. I had to send in more and more information maybe over three times. Then nothing. No response for several weeks, and then after followup inquiries, no response. Then, after another last-ditch followup by me, he finally responded saying that the person doing the review left and, because months had passed, that I would have to send in all my documentation again. I told him that I would find a bank that actually wanted to sell their products. What a joke!

Dreadful to deal with

Dreadful to deal with . Cancelled home insurance two months previous to renewal . They still took Direct debit . Went to bank no they advised we call insurance dept. . Called them and they said go back to bank 🤷‍♀️asked if we could forward on the emails re. Cancellation and was told they don’t deal with email . Yet that was the method we were originally told to use . Nobody could say if we will be refunded

Nothing works basically

Nothing works, except their sales. You cannot make insurance claim, you cannot book services (handyman service) which should be included into your policy. Contact through phone keeps you on line for 3 hours and then hung up. I've tried to contact sabadell for two years now - absolut rubbish.

Thieves and crooks!

Unbelievable situation. They won't let you close your bank account from abroad, and communicating with them is a lottery. My partner has been trying to close the account for months, without success. They denied her access to online banking, but not only that: they continue to charge her money every month! This is pure theft, there are no other words! We will proceed with legal action.

Customer Service is nonexistent

Customer Service is nonexistent. Deliberately unhelpful, incompetent, and arrogant employees who are only able to send inane automated responses to perfectly reasonable questions. They refuse to comply with UK probate law, and thereby make it impossible for an executor/heir to gain access to estate funds, and when you make a formal complaint to the bank, you will be ignored.

Where Incompetence Meets Arrogance

Where do I start?

March 2020 my lawyers opened an account in Sabadell after acquiring a property in Spain on my behalf.

Forward three years the bank sends me various communications and phone calls stating my passport is expired and need to reverify. I went through a Sabadell link taking a picture of my passport and a selfie as required. I waited and nothing happened. I contacted the phone desk at least ten times with each minion (more appropriate than executive) giving me a different response. At the time I was starting to put my property in the market.
Forward today (March-April 2024) and a buyer was found. First order of business was to close this account.

Forward 3 weeks and I request my Lawyer to wire the proceeds of the sale to my US Account. I ask them to exchange to US Dollars locally since I got skimmed big time on the exchange of the wire transfer from Euros to USD on the wire on the proceeds from my bank account.

Their bank is, you guessed it, Sabadell!
My lawyers tell me the bank can't do a simple exchange to USD but recommended me to open a currenciesdirect account (another hassle). I naturally refused being fed up.

Luckily, after talking with my US bank I manage to lock a favorable exchange rate. My lawyers wanted to do a trial transfer for a token amount before sending the principal. I talked to them and based on the fact that the last transfer took almost a week to materialize I wasn't willing to wait two weeks for this to happen. So they finally budged. For comparison, I recently got wired some money from someone in the UAE and it was reflected in my US account balance after 3 hours.

The only thing this so called bank excels at is charging fees. Other than that a bunch of incompetent and arrogant individuals with a script to follow.

Good riddance!

Trying to move our Sabadell account…

Trying to move our Sabadell account from Las Chafiras to Costa Adeje near our home.
The arrogant lady manager in Las C causes us a lot of problems whereas the manager of Costa Adeje is extremely courteous.
He tried to get our account moved .. no luck.
Now we have tried again via Head Office and our lawyer!

VERY POOR - VIRTUALLY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Totally agree with all the other reviews given. I have been with the bank for over 10 years. At first the service was excellent, and if I needed to contact when in the UK I could email them, and would have a reply almost instantly, so impressed. Now it’s impossible to contact them. I have tried sending emails using a generic one on their website and only received template email replies, even when someone does reply, they don’t understand my questions, and therefore don’t get the answers I need. I am now having issues accessing my online account in the UK, I have tried resets, forgot passwords, and finally after recent changes to their website, competed a form, which stated I would receive an email to complete the process needed. No email received!! I have also called Sabadell, and assuming just a call centre, not my bank in Mazarron, asked to make an appointment with the branch ready for my next visit, but this wasn’t possible WHY? Yes agree with everyone else, DON’T use this bank. I will be looking to close my account when next there, and from what others have said, no doubt will not be easy.

Queued for 45 minutes to close my deceased Mum's account. They told me my transaction might be OK to complete if I came in on Thursday. I asked if I could phone in on Thursday to check before I came & queued. They told me "No. No phone. It's chaos".
