1 star is too much
1 star is too much . BOI need to get their IT sorted . To not be able to filter transactions by Lodgements / credits is a disgrace . Ulsterbank had capability 20 years ago . Time to switch !!
Had to call their customer service in…
Had to call their customer service in India as they had a block on my card for booking a hotel that I have always booked as they say it could be suspicious. First agent had me on hold every 5 minutes then came up with a brainwave and asked me to re install the app. Dont they understand that re installing the app wont lift a block they have on my card even if i re install the app a million time, pathetic service. So she put me through to another chap who tell me their is a block on my card for this hotel, surprise surprise. Hotel confirmed there is nothing malicious about their website so no reason what so ever to block the card. Takes 20e each time I call, depends could cost more the longer your calling. Was told the block was lifted so tried to book still no luck called again to have it removed. Avoid calling bank of Ireland Customer Service at all cost.
Security issues - visa debit
Was having issues with my visa debit card and processing online transactions. When I got transferred to their security department, the person explained that there was a temporary hold on my card as there has been a big increase in fraudulent transactions over the last few weeks - at no stage was I notified about this but was concerned when every time I went to process an online transaction, my card didnt work. The person explained that I should have received a text (which I didnt) and then said that they dont always text if a suspicious transaction is being processed on a card, instead just putting a temporary hold on it. Long story short, I was told they would lift the hold on my card so I could process an important transaction - they didn't which meant I needed to ring back and speak with another agent for 10 mins who then said, the problem must be on the other end. A complete waste of time and I ended up having to pay via Revolut - a more efficient process. Lots of the usual bureaucracy and red tape - a rubbish service
Absolutely load if rubbish avoid at all…
Absolutely load if rubbish avoid at all costs the customer service needs putting in the bin along with the full company iv never ever known a bank like this in my life they don't even know what they are talking about thick as they pass you around like a basket ball and do nothing but pass the buck because they can't be bothered to do there job awfull do not join this thick headed idiotic bank
Very disappointing in the service and…
Very disappointing in the service and customer care this bank has to offer. IE banks are at the lowest point, I seen better customer service in other smaller countries.
Customer dissatisfaction guaranteed
After years of loyal banking I am now very unimpressed and disappointed with the customer service and courtesy towards customers. I always appreciated having a local branch and paying for this service. But customer service is non existent in branch now nor on 365 online banking. There’s no point paying extra for service not provided.
Avoid and find an alternative option!
If I could rate lower than one star I…
If I could rate lower than one star I would.
BOI’s incompetence nearly cost me my home, for some reason they use an intermediate bank for UK payments, their intermediate bank flagged my RENT payment, this was TWENTY THREE months of consistent payment to same account with no changes.
BOI dealing with this issue gave me consistently wrong information or just none at all. They were incredibly slow to get any action done to the point my letting agent was threatening an issue to vacate the property due to the banking errors caused by BOI.
This was not an issue that could be set aside, yet nothing was acted with urgency, didn’t receive the contact they said they would.
Do not even open an account, unless you want a nightmare when things go wrong.
10 weeks trying to open a business…
10 weeks trying to open a business account. Fully cro and rbo registered. Jumped through hoops supplying information to be told today that my application was declined. Shocking service from the new accounts opening team in response times, no correspondence for weeks and then a 2 min phone call from a business advisor saying the application was declined. Currently looking at further steps. One if the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
Absolute failure of the bank.
Absolute failure of the bank.If there were 0 stars to choose, I would
I dont know where to start.
Locked my account 100s of times for no reason
To get anything sorted, you need to spend 2 hrs on the phone with people who can't speak English ( Its an Irish bank!!!!)
Business banking was better in 1930 than it is today in BOI
To transfer money around is a mission everytime
APP is from 1990 and it breaks n regular basis
Branches have customer service who cannot do anything and send you to the online support - what is the point?
The whole IT department should be fired
No wonder Wise or Revolut are taking this market share.
BOI is a thing of the past - avoid
Almost two weeks
Almost two weeks - waiting for a bank statement! Still not arrived!
Two weeks now!
Just what I expect from a company 'bailed out' by the Irish government!
No need for accountability!
THE worst bank.
THE worst bank.
On every level, this has to be the worst bank that I have ever encountered. Customer service is persistently and consistently, close to zero in terms of access, knowledge or responsiveness. They are also very arrogant and overly self assured in their responses yet time and time again….they are wrong whether it’s talking about DD’s, cut off times, international payments, currency accounts etc..
Pretty much anything ‘in App’ is clunky and underwhelming. A message to customer support takes 3-5 days before you will receive any kind of unsatisfactory or nebulous response. Even today, I received a notification (you all probably got one, too) telling me that ‘You are important to us. Click here to give us your feedback’ but when you ‘click here’ you are NOT taken to any survey.
This is just about the worst bank imaginable. Really inept.
Can’t send money!
Absolutely shocking having trouble over 2 weeks now. Everytime I try send money it says something went wrong. Every time I ring customer service they can’t solve it keep telling me they are gonna look into it and ring back I’m honestly thinking about switching banks!
Zero customer service
I opened a Cash Isa. I have just called to find out if I can transfer the money via bank transfer rather than send a cheque. I have spent 10 minutes going round in circles with their automated system, pressing numbers and getting the same message. I am not putting my money into an account where I can't speak to anyone. No customer service whatsoever.
Online payt authorisation problem
Purchasing on line requires Bank approval. A screen pops up, I swipe & authorise the payment. Then the Bk /Irl screen tells me to return to seller, but I cant close the Bank of Ireland screen which stays overlayed on seller screen and so I can't return to sellers screen to confirm I authorised the payment
You cannot edit payment details or…
You cannot edit payment details or reference when making a payment to a payee no matter how many times you have paid that person.
You must enter the details account number and sort code of payee all over again .
The app is archaic not fit for modern day banking . Makes you wonder how secure it is .

Trash useless customer service they always say you will get a call back you never do
My credit card was used by an unknown…
My credit card was used by an unknown person to make an online amazon purchase, which I confirmed with amazon. When I called the card fraud department to report this I was agressively told to deal with amazon and not the bank. I said if someone has my card details and is using it I want to cancel it right away which would be procedure, this BOI CS staff didn't seem to agree but when I insisted my card was canceled. Also when I said my wife uses my card occasionally the employee made a silly comment with a snigger. Very strange bank.
Very awkward process to pay
Very awkward process to pay. I'm currently 12 and half minutes on the phone trying to pay off my card, listened to all the automated messages and getting swapped back and forth between 4 humans so far, currently on hold for another human. I guess it's not in their interest to make it easy to pay off the balance.
How this is regulated organisation…
How this is regulated organisation baffles me. AVOID at all costs!
Worst experience with a bank ever
Worst experience with a bank ever.
I have provided everything they've asked me, tens of personal documents and informations.
After months of emails, phone calls, letters they never decided to help me open a bank account and just stopped replying.
Definitely don't recommend.
