Terrible customer service

Contacted Barnetts Dundee regarding toyota hilux chassis, my truck was inspected in June 2025, and I was told that the chassis was ok but required the waxoil treatment, and was told that they would in contact by October,
They hadn't called, so I called today to ask what was happening with the waxoil treatment,
I was told that there was no treatment centre in Scotland and they we're waiting on one being built!
When i told the lad that 4 off our works hiluxs have had the waxoil treatment in Aberdeen he told that that's not possible, but when I told him that it was fact and I felt as if I was being fobbed off he wasn't happy, he then proceeded to tell that they are not in Aberdeen but Dundee, which I'm quite aware of since it was me that called them, then he said that there's no treatment in Dundee, so it's now changed from no centre in Scotland to Dundee, when I mentioned that I wasn't happy and was going to call Toyota customer service he said go ahead and hung up on me,
Probably the worst customer service that I've ever had! Well done Barnetts Dundee.

My Prius brakes failed but no service for 4 weeks

My Prius failed mid December, warnings of low braking power and stop when safe, contact dealer. Barnetts were unable to see the car before mid January, ie 4 weeks, nor supply a courtesy car. I need the car for weekly trips (45 miles) to hospital for cancer treatment so went to Motech in Forfar. They took the car next day, diagnosed faulty sensor/rear wheel bearing and repaired same 2 days later. This would have been a warranty repair! A warranty where you must wait 4 weeks for service is almost useless. Why can't Barnetts manage emergency repairs promptly? Bad organisation? Being unwilling to pay overtime? Office staff unwilling to put their overalls back on? If senior managers had to lend their own cars out to emergency customers I am sure things would rapidly change!

Scare Mongers …

Took car in for service at Dundee Riverside. Day started bad and got worse. I had a waiting appointment but missed it by 10m aa the traffic was bad, they couldn’t tell me when the car would be ready so went for a coff because it was my fault for being 10 late. I got a call couple of hours later to say the service was done but they’d found a major issue with the breaks as they were worn 95% and also one backing plate was missing and another hanging off. They advised the car was UNSAFE to drive and cost £800 to resolve which can be done immediately. I initially authorised the work to proceed then had second thoughts as car was booked into local garaage for MOT. I called back and cancelled the work. I walked down to pick up the car and had to sign a disclaimer that I’d disregarded their advice.

Next day car was taken to local garage and PASSED MOT with no issues! The pads are around 80% worn but well within the MOT limits. The backing plates are superficial and can be removed completely! There would be a warning light when break pads are nearing needing replaced. Advised I’d have another 2 to 3 months and cost would be circa £300.

Absolutely scare mongering nonsense and official complaint is on its way to VW and ombudsman!

VW Barnetts - Worst customer service!!!

Worst customer service I would have to say service advisors give dates one month ahead for an engine check light which means the car can’t be used for weeks Service Manager Jordan is very rude and don’t seem to care and this is for an approved car that’s is under VW warranty I have had issues with the same guy back in July when MOT was done and my request was ignored and I had to take the car back which was dealt with and I was right all they say is we are short on staff! I was asked to call VW Assist if I want an early diagnostic done, sharing a bad experience on social media will get your account blocked :) Sales people would say anything to make the sale…
Watch out when it comes to Barnetts everyone

Disappointing experience.

Have an issue with a key for VW Golf. Phoned dealership and explained and was told that Jordan would call me back later in the day. Someone else phoned me around mid day and then said yes he will call. With no call forthcoming I called again nearer the end of the day and was told he was working through his calls and would definitely be in touch - nothing. Next morning called and asked if I could come through and ask him to look at the key and was told to come at around mid day and he would. Arrived 1230 and the woman on reception had never heard of me and told me to sit and wait. 15/20 minutes later Jordan arrived and asked what I was there for. He shrugged and looked blank when I said that I had phoned in previously of me. He looked at the car and said that it needed to come in for diagnostics for the key at a cost of £130. If I required a courtesy car that would be another £20. When I said I had looked on google and it seemed a fairly straightforward thing to fix he said we don't use google so it is £130 for the technician. I advised that I found that a bit expensive and again he shrugged - I said that I was a bit disappointed in his manner. On 3 occasions I was told by staff that "they hadn't seen the car before" which is irrelevant as they are the dealership and every car they see for a first time. There were around a dozen staff there and I was the only customer and I won't be back as I felt my custom was not wanted. I then went to a diagnostic centre closer to my home, diagnostic test £30 booked and a lovely warm welcome and great first impression for a new customer. Complete contrast to the total disdain and lack of interest experienced. Big dealerships need to remember they need little people to keep their shiny big dealerships open. Barnetts VW Dundee - never again and would advise others to go elsewhere too.

New car - great customer service

I had received great customer service from Barnetts when I used to take my company car for servicing. This made it my ideal choice to buy a brand new personal car. All the staff are excellent in communication, and I can’t fault any aspect of the process in purchasing, follow up, and support.
Shout out to Daisy and Andy for all their help and support.

The staff were brilliant

The staff were brilliant, especially with my boy who is autistic, he enjoyed sitting in the card in the show rooms.
The car came back with a clean bill of health, good efficient service, friendly staff, very helpful, and they even gave George an umbrella and a goody bag, that made his day.

Top Class Customer Service

Had a small issue after a yearly service at Barnett's Nissan, Dundee. Alan Lockhart from the service department could not have been any more helpful in resolving things. A first class gentleman who is a credit to his organisation. I'd also like to say that the reception staff are brilliant as well. Many thanks and will see you again soon. :)

Shoddy Workmanship

Avoid this establishment entirely. Incredibly Poor workmanship and cowboy practices clearly in effect with profiteering their main priority.

I trusted Barnett's Volkswagen Dundee with the servicing needs of my Volkswagen Scirocco for the last 11 years (every year on schedule)

Due to my vehicles age now, I decided it was time to undertake the servicing myself.

Whilst undertaking a routine oil filter and oil change, I was met with multiple missing clips on the under trays, A pressurised boost pipe that had not been fixed back in place with bolt missing and most concerning of all, the oil filterhousing was missing it's protective cap with it's corresponding tether left hanging around.

Considering I trusted this garage to look after my car for so long (at increasingly eye watering service costs over the years), I am absolutely appalled to find out that all along, they were no better than any back alley garage.

It is clear that the garage is prioritising profit over their workmanship and clearly do not take any pride in their work. Get the work in and out as fast possible and ensure the customer is taken for as much money as possible in the process.

It pains me to say, but stay well clear of this dealership. Take your business elsewhere.

Great service from Barnetts Toyota Dundee

Great service from Barnetts Toyota Dundee today, provided by Kenny Christie and Paul.
Kenny organised my vehicle inspection in a relaxed and efficient manner and Paul transported both of us to and from the garage to Dundee city centre, offering great chat and polite service.

VERY POOR AFTERSALES/SERVICING

I own an ID 4 first edition. It is has been in the garage since the start of December 2023 with what was intially a suspected battery issue for over three weeks. This branch repeately told me they couldn't fix it and were unable to take it to Edinburgh. No attempt was made to communicate or offer a like for like vehicle. After numerous attempts to raise it with VW UK they are now communicating. Apparently it required a high voltage cable which has no arrived, however, they now need a specialist tool to fix it. No time scale has been given or any good will gesture. They have stated there is now guarantee this will fix the issue!! We are now on our fourth hired car from enterprise cars. We can't plan ahead with a holiday. This is the second time in less than a year I have had to complain about the poor customer service I have had from this branch and VW UK. I will now proceed to the ombudsman with my complaint. I have badly let down by a trusted brand, and my local branch. After investing a considerable amount of money in a car with used warranty I would expect polite and transparent communication😡

What - no Customer Satisfaction Surveys?!

I had a very disappointing experience - and a large bill - at the VW Dealership in St Andrews recently. I asked on the way out whether I would be getting the customer satisfaction surveys to complete, as I usually do very soon after visiting the service department. There's usually one from Barnetts and one from VW. I was assured there would be. Nearly three weeks later, and still no surveys. So one only gets a survey to complete if the response is going to be OK. That strikes me as dishonest.

As for the work itself: I had been told after dropping the car off to have a noisy - possibly sticking brakes - problem investigated, that it would have to come back in for a whole day to have new pads and discs fitted. I duly booked it in for the first available date and made clear that I had to have the car back in order to drive over 100 miles the following day for a funeral. I was phoned in the afternoon while my car was in for the work, to be told that an additional problem had been discovered and that the parts wouldn't be in until the next day.

I asked why that problem - which was actually the cause of the noise and the sticking brakes - hadn't been identified when the car was in for investigation. I was told that the speaker didn't know, and that the technician responsible wouldn't be back at work for another couple of days.

To their credit, Barnetts did get the car back to me only just in time for my long journey the following morning, and I was told not to worry about the bill at that point as the person dealing with the work would "see what could be done about it". A few days later I was invoiced for an even larger amount than I had originally anticipated.

When I visited Barnetts to discuss the bill, I was told that I had been given all the discounts possible, which had saved me £500. Given that the delay had been caused by Barnetts not spotting or anticipating the further problem, I am less than happy.

I am seriously considering moving not only from Barnetts but from VW in due course.
