Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 73 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the service to be despicable and expressed that they would be better off paying out of pocket for medical expenses. They frequently encountered issues with customer service, describing representatives as rude, incompetent, and unhelpful, often experiencing disconnections and a lack of follow-up calls. Reviewers also reported significant problems with claims, including denials for medically necessary procedures, cancer treatments, and even annual physicals for children, despite paying high premiums. The pricing was a major concern, with many noting that costs for prescriptions, doctor visits, and other services increased significantly, often exceeding what they would pay without insurance. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that some staff members provided exceptional customer service, being helpful, friendly, and professional in answering questions.

Justice for Brianna

How can they charge an innocent woman for say delay deny depose on the phone when that’s what they do all the time? So much so there are books about it? Delaying and denying healthcare is murder.

Terrible Customer Service

The phone line was broken and I ended up speaking to about 10 different agents whom of which all got ruder as I went. One representative said "we don't do that here go look it up girl I can't help you, bye" like what in the world!? I have no idea what their customer service training is like but they were all so rude. I even had to ask one person why they were yelling at me. Ruthless. I will be changing my plan immediately.

I continue to near daily Stay away from anthem they will leave you to suffer.

I continue to near daily receive emails from anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield telling me that I need to contact my doctor and to get healthy and take care of myself use my insurance so that I could live a better life then I go to my doctor and my doctor says oh yes well we need to do this and she writes me a prescription And then anthem denies the prescription and then she wrote a different prescription for another problem and they deny that prescription and they have denied four prescriptions that my doctor felt I needed To get healthy and when I call them, they say that their medical director is smarter than my doctor without even ever looking at me or talking to me or meeting me so he denies my medication because he’s a better doctor than my doctor and yet he’s sitting behind the desk, not talking to anybody. At that point they tell me I can appeal within 10 days of the denial. Well, let’s go 10 days. It takes two days at least for the cover letter to leave their facility and takes another five days to be delivered that leaves three days in that three days I have to take the letter to my doctor. She has to find time to see me if luckily enough I get to see her And then she has to download a plethora of forms and fill them out and mail them back to anthem at the end of those three days so the system is set up to never help you in the end. The people that really need medication will not get them through anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield do not use this company. You will not get the proper care that you are hoping for. Period.
When I called up to ask what was going on, they directly told me their medical director makes decisions that my doctor can’t so apparently my certified doctor doesn’t know what she’s talking about but their pencil pusher that covers all the bills knows everything.

BCBS is like a toxic ex-girlfriend who gaslights you. At first, they shower you with promises: "I’ll always protect you, baby." Then, when you need them, they vanish, insisting, "You have to wait at least 30-60 days before I will even consider helping you." And when you bring up their earlier promises, they sigh dramatically, "You must have misunderstood, sweetie, it's all in the fine print."

The abusive spouse of health insurance!

Oh, what hasn't gone wrong since I was diagnosed with cancer? Blue Cross Blue If-They-Feel-Like-Paying-Today has been punishing me ever since. Instead of a safety net, they leave gaping holes for you to fall through. I highly recommend secondary insurance to cover those holes.

Sometimes I think they wish I had bought it on the operating table. Would have been cheaper, you know! Didn't get their money's worth since I survived and now they have to pay for upkeep on the new chassis.

If they don't want to pay for a procedure, they won't.

In fact, they will figure out ways not to pay and stick you with the difference. Need a CT scan? Good luck. I need two a year. What they don't cover, I have to pay with my limited funds.

Now they are refusing to cover certain office visits and lab work.

I hate paying such a high premium only to discover they haggle every diagnostic procedure like some weary chef at a fruit market in Morocco.

Sadly, my abusive relationship must continue until I can find an insurance company who sees me not as a risk, but someone whose continued health is something worth investing in.

DO NOT JOIN BCBS of Texas .THEY ARE A MESS/COPAY ARE VERY HIGH

BCBS of Tex, does not automactically allowed you to get flu or seasonal covid shot at a pharmacy. I went to HEB pharmacy and those shot are denied by them , I have to file a complaint with Medicale and appeal with BCBC to get them approved, They are very disorganized, After I got the shots, I got 2 useless phone calls from them and tried to explained me how to get the shots. Their copay for X-ray is $100.00, all the other carriers are free. The co-pay for a CT is $250.00, it is much higher than others. THE BOTTOM LINE IS DO NOT JOIN THEM

My phones receive multiple calls daily

My phones receive multiple calls nearly every day from HCSC "agents". The "general" phone number for HCSC is 1-312-653-6000. When you call them, it goes directly into Blue Cross Blue Shield member services with no way to reach HCSC. If you want to reach anyone within HCSC, call 1-866-977-7378 (option 3 for Agent) to request removal from their phone list.

BCBS of Texas is the worst!

This has got to be one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. We pay over $700 a month (for the 2 of us) plus whatever my employer contributes monthly, and they pay out so very little. I have a deductible that equates to around the first $4000 my responsibility before they will pay 80 percent of the bill. What a joke. In essence I pay for my healthcare unless some calamity occurs causing me to shell out $4K. Their website is highly inaccurate with outdated; doctors who it says accept new patients but don’t, telephone numbers of doctors that when you call they are hundreds of miles away (but willing to do a video call) and when you do independent searches on a doctor you think might work out, they are one and two star doctors with tons of complains or malpractice. They honestly scrape the bottom of the barrel for available doctors here in California. I can’t recommend them to anyone!! Just a terrible company that only is interested in taking your money with no return for you. Avoid like the plague!!

BCBS does not even handle most of their…

BCBS does not even handle most of their cases. They are handed off to a utilization management company called Innovista Health. These people, for the lack of a better word are, jerks. They are only interested in money. They could care less about people. If you died tomorrow they would celebrate a win. Not even in a Rehab facility following a stroke and they are hounding for a discharge date. It was recommended my loved one was entered into the hospital inpatient intense therapy program. They denied the claim and he was put in a nursing home that was a nightmare. Abusive CNA, no bath or shower for 10 days. The list goes on and on. He was denied a spot in the inpatient therapy program because our family did not have a definitive plan in place when he went home. We were given just a few days to come up with. Are you kidding me. They bully and push and talk terrible to the hospital staff, nursing home staff and Dr offices. They use scare and threatening tactics to bully. They are like Bill collectors. I do not back down from them. If you do not believe this I have witnesses that would be happy to testify to it. He had to go back into the hospital for surgery related to stroke. It was recommended by a team of Dr's and therapists after a thorough evaluation that he needed to be placed in the inpatient program. Again, these sharks denied him. Because they are uncaring jerks. They belittle professionals who are actually caring for the patient. They have some cocky medical director who has never seen the patient deciding they should go home. After a continuing battle he was placed in a different nursing home fir rehab. They are wonderful They are on board in the fight with us against these bullies who terrorize families who are dealing with stress over their loved ones. We will continue to fight. They should not be allowed to do this. I have letters drafted and ready to send to the IL Department of Insurance, the CEO of BCBS, the CEO of Innovista, BBB, the IL Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the IL Governor , and IL State Senators. I can tell you that every professional we have worked with has said that in the years they have dealt with insurance, this is the first time they have ever encountered this. BCBS better step in and see what is going on. INNOVISTA is an embarrassment to them and making them look bad. If you see the names Deborah Tesar, Tamara Fernandez, or Irena Gorovets and their crazy medical director, get the speed dial ready to your attorney. You will need it. That is our next step.Apalling. Come on BCBS. Are you that money hungry? I am not interested in funding a new yacht for your CEO.

Why does BCBS not want to do their…

Why does BCBS not want to do their jobs? I called you on a recorded line and asked if I was covered before seeing my PCP(6/21/2024). Then you let my former employer (Grainger) back date the cancellation. Don't work for just any Grainger. Stay away from those over priced, price gouging and my least favorite yes men and women. Spineless company folks! Never work for Benavideas! Customer needs a specific layout and let's another team just come in and do whatever. Brilliant! But I digress! BCBS then wanted me to call there benefits team and I'm like that's not my job. I've told you what the problem was you need to redact it and fix this. Half the time they give you someone who's first language is not English. And I wonder if they tell them to ham up their accent a little harder? And then I get an English speaking broad who was worthless! Try to give me another number to call. Why don't you just own up and understand the Granger backdated the insurance after the claim have been processed. Probably after I got on LinkedIn and change my employers when they decided to say blank you. No wonder America's becoming the one weakest nations in the world! We can't even take care of our own properly without outsourcing everything! And then when you have American companies that make it through the depression they're just as shady as the rest of y'all! Redact that claim and pay it I'm not paying for it!

Horrible customer service without any regard to people's times. Was put on an hour long wait for a medication override and without notice was transferred to restart the process. Horrible patient experience in that unprofessional with explanations of benefits and half the needs not covered. If people want to give away money, select a charity and not waste time with BCBS premiums.

TOTAL NEGLIGENCE BCBS

My son had a bicycle accident on May 4 , he has a fractured shoulder. The ER said he needs surgery. His 2 CT scans verify the need for surgery. We were able to get in with a reputable orthopedic surgeon. He agrees he needs surgery. He scheduled surgery. BCBS (state) has denied the procedure 3 times over the last 3 weeks. Now the repair, if it ever gets approved, will be more complex and involve a much longer recovery time . He’s lost 4 weeks of work already while waiting for authorization. He is unable to use his right arm. The saddest part is BCBS does not care . This is gross negligence. No concern for patient care, long term outcomes and function. DO NOT TRUST BCBS.

Horrible Customer Service Experience

I have been currently trying to get reimbursed for a claim from 2023. My wife and I have called in over a dozen times. Each time, we're promised a call back, weeks go by and nobody ever calls back. I got a manager on the line, Phillip who I trused would give me better service. It's been 2weeks now and I have yet to receive one call. This has been the worst customer service experience that I have ever dealt with. If I was not handcuffed to them as my employers health insurance I would have cancelled a long time ago. If you're an employee, do not ever use them for health insurance and make your employees go through this.

lackluster approvals

Currently dealing with them on a denied pre authorization for my back for radio frequency Ablation (RFA) and BCBS is denying the pre auth even w/ medical records sent in. So now it’s being appealed and accolade has no clue the status of the appeal. Meanwhile I’m a patient suffering in pains at the hands of BCBS
