Had only the best experience with the hop on hop off bus company. The buses are modern and clean. A few times guests came back with a complaint, but the team always handled it professionally.

Not the normal stand of Big Bus tours

So I am a massively independent traveller but I love to take Big Bus tours as a way of discovering a city on my first day. Normally I love it. This one was awful for the following reasons:
(1) The route is boring and dull. It does not even include than most famous mosque in Oman
(2) On cruise ship days the bus is horribly over crowded. I got on at the first stop and the bus was full - clearly it had stopped at the cruise ship to pick people up. The problem is the bus then only stopped at the stops people were waiting at - it skipped about 4 stops. The reality is people could not even get on the bus at stops after the first stop.
All in all a waste of money.

Service can be improved!

Damaged Audioguide not working on a lot of seats in the bus. No shuttle service to mosque in Muscat although this is a highlight of the city! Map in bus not valid because more stops are done by the driver.

Helpful bus driver, he organized us a taxi to the mosque with a good price!

Stressful day because roads were partly closed due to visit of a president of another country. Information about impact not good communicated to bus guests!

It was a nice tour but!!!

It is a nice tour, when the bus is going.
We had a two-day-ticket, but on the second day was just one bus about 10´clock and one in the afternoon. So it was not possible to hop on and off and to stay a while on one place.
This two-day-ticket was the money not worth.

Good but not as good as tours in other cities

Staff was really nice, buses were very clean, and the information provided was interesting. Only 4 stars because the price far exceeded the value (especially in comparison to other city's Big Bus Tours). Oddly, the tour doesn't include one of the most important points of interest in the city: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

Horrendous!!

Horrendous!!! Of all the things I’ve done in 50+ countries this may have been the poorest service I’ve seen. I purchased the tickets online and used the app provided, but the locations on the app were the old stops, so I was left walking around Muscat for hours while the bus drove past me several times, so so so frustrating. Once I found a stop I ended up getting a map and I explained what had happened to one of their staff, he sort of laughed it off and said “yea that’s really old!” I’ve no idea why they encourage you to buy online and download and old app that doesn’t work, ridiculous. I’ve a video of me using there app and GPS, standing at one of the “pick up points” with the bus driving right past me. Secondly, at the end of the day the bus didn’t do it’s last run of the day, so I was stuck out at the museum waiting for half an hour then had to walk back to my hotel. This significantly reduced my ability to see Muscat while there which was a great shame as it was a beautiful city. I fully fell like I deserved a refund but didn’t complain as I was dumbfounded but just how bad the service provided was and had no faith in it.

Badest experience of my whole stay

Badest experience of my whole stay. Only two tours where offered, one at 10am and one at 2pm. So if you once hopped off you where trapped at one point for four hours and had no chance to get off at any other place. I had to call a taxi which was also quite expensive. Staff didn’t help and found everything pretty normal. I will definitely try to get my money back. Not worth doing this again.

Friendly and helpfull staff

Friendly and helpfull staff.
The bus should drive more often.
Stops on App and map are not exactly the same as in reality. In app is nothing mentioned about different schedules on cruise and not cruise days.

Purchased a 48 hour Muscat pass

Purchased a 48 hour Muscat pass. What a difference on both Days. Day one: arrived onboard Celebrity Constellation, plenty of Big Buses, complete circuit taking 2 1/2 hours, bus every 30 minutes, with good commentary. Historic Forts, Royal Opera House, Al Alam Palace, Oman Parliament and Incense Burner could only be viewed from afar no public access.
Day two: Mein Schiff 5 also berthed in the port, and for no apparent reason THREE additional stops were included, two beach stops and Al Qurum Naional park.

Perhaps not the best option for seeing Muscat.

Although this is a good route. The map did not show all the stops which made it difficult to plan properly. As a result alot of time is lost waiting for the bus to come and sitting on the bus. I do not thing this is particularly good value for money. However staff are friendly and helpful and do provide a good service.

Total lack of respect and waste of money

Well, i have booked this tour thinking it was a good choice to check the main points in Muscat. The touristic points are ok even though it is not passing through the great mosque.
The disappointment is because it was promised 24h of use for the ticket. I started my trip at 4pm and gave a complete round finishing the day one.
It mention that you can wait for the bus at any point and there will be a bus coming each 30 min. In fact i have been waiting for 3 hours and no bus showed up. I called to the company which informed me that there was no bus because there was no passengers. It's cool that no one advise that in advance!
By the end i lost almost my hole day waiting for a stupid bus and wasted my money and my time.

Disappointed

In the afternoon we waited for a bus for an hour and one did not turn up. We ended up getting a taxi. Very disappointing.

I enjoyed the tour

I enjoyed the tour, but as the bus only comes every two hours most stops are not worth getting off at. I would recommend it to get an overview of Muscat.

Great Staff!

Gen, my guide who helped with my ticket was amazing. I was confused on the structure of the tour as I just came in last minute. He helped me map it all out and get my ticket. This is the ONLY way to see Muscat as everything is very spaced out.
