I enjoyed much the three roads esp. The cruise on the river by night. Besides the staff was very helpful.
lack of instructions
As someone who bought a ticket online, it was unclear how to trade the receipt for the real ticket, lack of precise locations where to take the bus

Good value for money!!!
If you are limited in time and don't want to do a lot of walking, this is a great way to get from one attraction to the next. The 48 hours pass is sufficient to cover all the main points. Recommended!
A good way to get an overview of the city in a day
BigBus offered a very complete set of tours -- I would caution people that many of the pickup points are not identified and/or not staffed. In addition, communication can be a bit shoddy. We tried to pick up the blue tour at the pearl station, but were unable to find any BigBus employees. We ended up walking through the Bund sightseeing tunnel and joining the tour at the Bund. Similarly, we tried to transfer to the green bus -- an employee directed us to a bus, but we ended up on another red bus and having to repeat the tour!
great way to see Shanghai
Big Bus trip from 23/01/2014 to 25/01/2014.
We were on a cruise from Hong Kong to Japan, via Shanghai and South Korea so we had limited time in Shanghai. Pre-booking for a fixed date seemed to be the answer and with a good discount. Unfortunately due to bad weather our port of call between HK and Shanghai had to be cancelled and we arrived in Shanghai the day before we had booked the Big Bus. The staff at the bus stop were great and there was no problem about us starting our 48 hours in advance of the date agreed. In fact this was much more convenient for us as we now had a full day and 2 half days to use the bus. Tip - if you have the time to spare in Shanghai starting your journey around 2.00 pm does give you much more usable time for your 48 hours, when the attractions are open, some don‘t open until 10.00 am. Also plan your journey in a logical sequence and also keep an eye on the time of the next bus so as not to hang around waiting.
The staff at the bus stops were also most helpful in directing us from the stop to wherever we were going (not always on the doorstep) and where the best places were to change between the different routes.
The English commentary was very clear with good spoken English and gave useful facts between the stops, not just background music as on some buses.
All in all the Big Bus trip is a great way to see Shanghai, particularly if you have a limited amount of time available. We never seemed to have much waiting time between buses and never had problems getting seats.
I gave this 4 star rating because we did make pre reservations to qualify for a discount, but we were telling other passengers on our ship about this trip and they had no problems with getting on board without a reservation.
Nice & Pleasant
Team is great! Route is nice in daytime & night both. Bus was good. Text was interesting.
One thing bad - it was very hard to find any bus stop. Map is abstract & it's hard to compare with real streets. No sign or guide in advance the bus stop.
Bus riding on top was real fun !
Enjoyed the bus tour, we really made the rounds. We saw everything interesting in the city, with lots of good details and information . Would love to see the country side next!
The worst run bus company I have ever experienced
Where do I start? The buses run every forty minutes and are always, always late. If you miss a bus, you can (and do) lose up to eighty minutes in your day. All the buses say red line, even though some are green or blue line. They will give you tickets to the Jade Buddha Temple, and then the bus driver will decide to skip that part of the route that day, which you will not know until you arrive back where you started. The drivers do not stop at the stops, mostly just roll by them or slow down and let you jump out in traffic. The Big Bus staff at the main stops have to literally run out in the street and make the drivers stop to pick up passengers. The bus drivers are surly and uncooperative. The spit into their buckets very often, and it is just plain disgusting. It took my daughter and I two full days to use the three free tickets we were given, and it took the whole first day to figure out all the above so we could tell the staff to tell the driver to take us to the places we held tickets. This company is an absolute disorganized mess! We spent more time waiting for buses than actually riding them. I would not use them again for all the tea in China (to coin a phrase) Avoid at all costs!
Very convenient to tourist travel by own self.
This is my first experience travel in Big Bus Tours, It is very convenient to tourists as the route and schedule are clearly stated in the guide. The bus condition is good and my family have really enjoyed the rides. The only thing that can be improved is that to add more routes and frequencies. The bus drivers should be able to speak basic English in order to improve interactions with tourists.
Very useful, highly recommended!
It was a wonderful trip. I did not enjoy the trip to the Jade Buddha temple, the rest was superb!
poor driving
I felt that more information could have been given. There were many times when we were left listening to musak for long periods.
I know the roads a busy, but some of the drivers made for very uncomfortable journeys. Stop start and heavy on the brakes. I felt sick at times.
Nice Coverage - but limited information on bus schedule at various stops
We availed ourselves of the big bus tour as a means of getting around Shanghai. When we were able to get on a bus it was good but there was no timetable available so it was largely guesswork as to when the bus would arrive at a stop. This meant that you had waste a lot of time waiting for a bus near the Jin Mao Tower. On the 2nd day we gave up waiting for a bus in the fact took a taxi - it turned out to be a better option for given where we wanted to go.
Good idea - poor communication and logistics.
We had lots of trouble knowing where we needed to go at times. We reserved through the online site, but it did not say where we needed to meet the bus (i.e. at #1). After looking for 45 minutes, we finally found the site for #2. There was nothing on the online site about what signs we were to look for at the bus stops. We wished at that point that we had taken Spring tours because they had people posted at most bus stops, and we much cheaper. Consequently we did not get the additional tickets to ferry ride, etc. We happened to find out about the extra passes from another tourist.) Also, the earphone connections often did not work, and when the speaker spoke about sites, he usually did not say where we were to look, so we heard comments but did not see the site.
Overall, I would rate this tour a 3 out of 10.
Great experience + helpful staff
I had been living in Shanghai for about 7 months before my friends and I finally decided to do this tour and visit all the big sights that we had yet to see... Sure it's a little pricey, but with the extra admission tickets to the JinMao tower, Jade Buddha temple, and Huangpu river cruise, etc. included, it's more than worth the money... We were a little concerned about some of the reviews we read regarding "long waits" at each bus stop, but they're all very conveniently located. So even during the 10-15 minutes we had to wait at one or two stops, there was always a picture moment or restaurant or Starbucks in sight... The staff was very helpful (despite the broken English) and at the end of the day, we felt like we definitely got our money's worth... Thanks Big Bus for an amazing day!
The best way to see Shanghai!
From the initial meeting with the Big Bus rep we were well informed and advised as to the best way to see all the appropriate sights.
I would, and have, recommended this as an excellent way to enjoy and see Shanghai leaving you to pencil in what you want to spend more time doing.
A great way to see all the big sights in Shanghai on your own.
Bigbus tours is a great way to get an overview of all the major sights. We took the two day tour; the first day just doing the loop and then the second day going back to spend more time at sights that interested us more. It was great to sit on the top deck and be able to see everything--you were even above the city buses. I highly recommend using Bigbus for cities that you are exploring. I will use it again when in a location that has it.
The only problem--some times, the plug-in headphones didn't work on some seats in the bus.
