Big Commerce is the BEST!! Love it for my store bittybowsboutique.com
I am truly madly deeply in love with BigCommerce's e-Commerce platform! I run an online children's hair accessories business Bitty Bows Boutique and have been with BC for going on 3 years now. We were at 3DCart before which was the worst company I've ever worked with. X-Cart before that. BC has broad features available but also make it easy to make customizations. They keep their customers happy and don't nickle and dime like other companies. The product provides a fast reliable website and the associated apps actually work. Also truly madly deeply in love with Klaviyo which is integrated and utiliizes top technology. I feel like they are a forever solution for my store! Definitely recommend!
I wouldnt wish this company on my worst…
I wouldnt wish this company on my worst enemy - they have absolutely NO positives over the leading competitor. I came from Shopify so I know terrible CS, these guys are worse which I didnt know was possible. Steer as far away as you can from this dumpster fire
What an absolute nightmare it has been… UPDATED
What an absolute nightmare it has been working with BC. I feel like they are terrible at managing the platform and are more worried about their stock price. I am honestly so at odds weather to just give up or to wait it out. They have good features for customizing your store, but every problem I have had with their billing department is huge. They charged me $330 for nothing and caused my account to go negative an incur overdraft fees on my bank account. It is a huge inconvenience to me.
UPDATE: I have gone ahead and cancelled my store with them. I do not recommend this site to anyone. Their customer service skills, platform bugs, and just general bad management make them beyond a doubt one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. I repeat DO NOT USE BIGCOMMERCE.
Horrible mess of a service, stay away
Their templating system is bloated, heavy and way too abstract, their customer agents are useless and they won't fix low server response.
I've been pleading with them for months because they have a terrible TTFB (server response time) in some european servers. People enter my store, try to see more images of the product and because it takes 3 or 4 seconds they leave frustrated. And you lose your clients just like that.
I've talked with 8 different agents throughout all this, opened cases, escalated them.
And I am tech-savvy, I can't imagine what it's like for regular users.
I've shown them impartial TTFB tests, explained the issue again and again... and honestly, all of them danced around the real issue which is their CDN's perform very badly especially in Europe.
They made me change lots of things that had nothing to do with their server response time.
I've wasted so much time and energy on them... Not to mention this is a paid service! Now diverting extra resources to move out of this fancy-looking sham.
They don't even deserve a one star
They don't even deserve a one star. I called them at least 6 or 7 times for a basic issue I had with saving text on the store front. They could never fix anything. They kept telling me to use another browser which I did and it wasn't fix. I told a manager I was going with another company and he didn't care. I don't blame you he said an issue like this could take months to fix. I told him : do you know where I want to be in a few months" that was a deal breaker for me.
Very poor support
Very poor support. They just say a feature is unsupported instead of fixing the problem.
BigCommerce for Wordpress (BC4WP) plugin is not fit for purpose - do not use it. You will end up doing lots of custom development.
BigCommerce Support is Awful
The support you receive at BigCommerce is horrible. The representatives are very polite but can't answer the most basic questions to troubleshoot a problem. This means it takes a loooooong time to go back and forth with their advanced support as they only do it via email. And advanced support asks you the most basic questions about your problem as if they have no understanding of what is going on. I'm migrating my backend to shopify.
I've been with B/C for a few years now…
I've been with B/C for a few years now - everything went along well but in the last few months things are falling apart for me. Absolutely no sales - I get it we're in financial trouble here in the USA but when your still making sales on another platform something smells wrong. I keep getting emails from google that my feed is screwed up - no one at b/c answers the phone or responds to emails. It can't be me - I'm still churning out money somewhere else - anything I share on facebook deletes the item and replaces it with a generic website address now which it never used to do. Going today to start a backup site on Shopify under different name and compare the 2 - maybe it's time to get out of the online game since it's turned into a big fat money grab now. I can go back to ebay for my daily flogging - I don't need that from BC
Been on the platform for years and even…
Been on the platform for years and even stuck with them when they hiked up the costs to take a percentage of your turnover. Sadly its the last straw and time for us to move.
They do make a lot changes to their platform and don't pre-warn you about the effects it will have on your website.
For some bizarre reason, they deleted large parts of our style sheets that have been fine for nearly 10 years. When called support they said they don't support this type of request and we need to fix ourselves.
I really don't need to be wasting time and money on this.
Weak and getting weaker ecommerce platform
I have used this product for over 3 years. It is mediocre at best. Technologically, we have only seen a deterioration in its capabilities despite getting emails every month on the fantastic new features of the product. We have since moved to another product (which is not allowed to be named in Trustpilot) and it is not perfect but we have the possibilities to fix the technical problems we encounter. In 3 years, I can literally say that not one of my technical questions were ever answered. Customer service's role is to make you feel "good" while they supposedly raise your technical question to the next level - WHICH LITERALLY NEVER GETS ANSWERED....EVER! The real kicker is trying to leave this platform. We get charged upwards of $1000 per month for not using the system and even after cancelling they are claiming to be able to charge us. I have taken up the issue with the credit card company, but I would highly recommend another product. There is nothing here.
Don't Waste Your Time and Money
Unless you are a developer, don't waste your time. You will have to edit the HTML code to do the simplest change, like removing the huge amount of extra white space around your logo. These themes are not user friendly, and BC support is a joke. They are worthless, their answer for everything is to "reach out to a developer." Translation: you spend more money.
The support for the premium, expensive themes is also abysmal. The developers are not used to putting out a theme that is easy to work with. They are lazy, and don't think they need to respond to customers' questions or complaints. Do yourself a favor and choose any other platform, Shopify, 3d Cart, or Squarespace. Any of these has to be better.
The Negative Reviews Are From Newbies.
Writing a review because these negative reviews don't do BigC justice.
I've been with them for a year because Shopify deleted my store because I was flagged as 'high-risk' because I was living in the Philippines at the time.
Switching to BigC has been awesome!
I'm confused about the negative reviews about BigC's customer service because when I was setting up my store, I was calling them every hour and they helped me from A - Z.
Where the reviews are correct is that BigC is not a newbie platform. You have to be somewhat good at technology to make it happen.
However, if you are tech-savvy, BigC is a 'big boy tool' in comparison to Shopify.
The biggest pro of going with BigC is that they don't take a % transaction when you use other payment providers.
This saves us a couple of hundred bucks a month.
There have been instances where some random things break, but they're usually fixed quickly.
A problem with BigC is that the app marketplace is not as robust as Shopify's.
But a huge pro is that the BigC community has that small welcoming hometown feel (a lot of ex-Shopify people).
For me, I'm still emotionally scarred from Shopify deleting my store so it would take a lot for me to migrate from BigC back to Shopify.
I am happy with my BigC store, they have helped make me a rich man.
Huge piece of junk
Huge piece of junk. I am stuck on the platform but I would never suggest it. Save yourself the headache. Data import tool is my biggest complaint. There is no way to just bulk update price only. We all have price increases. Rarely do we need to update product names and categories in bulk. Their garbage tool forces you to update product name and categories. The categories come in as text values and can be quite long. Our update toll used to work fine, but all of the sudden, it crashes after 1 row of data is updated. The data is 100% right from their export. Takes the first row, then hangs. Have to delete the row that was imported, resave the csv, then upload again. Imagine doing this hundreds or thousands of times. Total garbage. Wish I never migrated to them!
Nothing but good experience with this…
Nothing but good experience with this platform. I would recommend it to everyone.
This company is appalling
This company is appalling. They frequently are tinkering behind the scenes and rolling out upgrades without evidently doing appropriate testing. Whether it faffing with the payment process or the API system there is usually something they do that directly impacts your store and your sales. Customer service is not a fake as shopify but hopeless and non committal. And the APP also is a bit pointless
Big Commerce is too hard for Average People!
I've had a Big Commerce store all summer and never had a problem with it until last night. An update wiped out all my products imported from Printful! I bought a domain for my store and a GSuite subscription, which required repeated logins. Neither of them verified my domain, even after copying and pasting something called a "TXT" into...somewhere. Tech support's advice was little help. I left suggestions to simplify domain verification, but they went unread in their Community Help page. Several times I rage-quit and almost had meltdowns! I had to uninstall two Google apps twice because of this! And the tech support said I have a 12-month contract on their basic plan, so I can't get a refund if I quit. This is the second online store after Shopify I have a technical problem with. I'm becoming discouraged from ecommerce!
Not the best support
I've been using Big-commerce for a while and the customer service support team members I've dealt with rarely seem knowledgeable. I had a recent issue with wanting to add a CTA (Call to Action) button and the team member didn't know what that was?? Furthermore, the next person I spoke with knew what a CTA button was and helped me add it, but he could not share the basic information for changing the button's color, which is a part of the customize option and very simple. The last time I called, I waited 50 minutes for a rep and then his dog barked the whole time we talked. I know he's at home due to COVID, but that's no excuse. I love dogs, but if you are on a business call, they should be in another room if they cannot stop barking!
For Sales, Go w/ Big Commerce
I have been running e-commerce stores for a few years now. My current store (SkynexTech) is run from BigCommerce. I made my choice after researching the various e-commerce platforms available. I went through all the Free Trial periods one could possibly find online, comparing the functionality and usability available amongst the various e-commerce platforms.
In the case of Shopify, I also ran a store for some time. The reason I made the switch to BigCommerce (and why I am still with BigCommerce 4 years later), is simple: BigCommerce focuses on the one and only thing that should matter to any e-commerce store owner that is, sales.
The BigCommerce platform is much leaner, and much more focused on getting more sales. Many are those, however, that mistake feature quantity as being tantamount to better e-commerce platform. The focus should really be on quality of features, not quantity.
The best and most concrete example is the "in-panel analytics" offered by both e-commerce platforms. Shopify offers way more data but a lot of that data is in fact irrelevant, and actually makes it much more difficult to draw rationale conclusions and make actionable decisions about your stores. In a sense, analytics provided through Shopify create a "fog of war" or so to speak.
By comparison, BigCommerce gives you data on the number of visitors, number of products looked at, products added to cart, and of course products purchased. This is all that should matter. Anything above and beyond this, you should be relying on an analytics platform, such Google Analytics and/or Google Search Console, rather than on your e-commerce solution provider. When I log into my BigCommerce store, its not for analytics. It's for creating sales, promotions, pricing strategies, improving product design and descriptions, etc. Having all the essential data available helps me make quick, effective, and actionable decisions. If I am in need of any further analytics (e.g. top pages visited, behavior, acquisition, etc.) Google Analytics is the solution.
Conclusion? Go with BigCommerce. I've tried both. If you want more sales, BigCommerce is leaner and will get you there faster.
Their POS integration really works
I was recommended to use BigCommerce by our POS (Hike). Integration is decent which connects my products, inventory and sales data.
Good eCommerce for growing business.
This company is a SCAM
I signed up for big commerce towards the end of May 2020. When speaking to a sales representative, this platform was going to be so easy to use, and I was going to have an amazing looking website, and it was going to save me and my company money. Sold! So I signed a contract to start working with them.
I then started with buying a template, and quickly realized that with me using their platform, my website was going to look bad. I reached back out to Big Commerce, and they recommended me to reach out to one of their certified developers. After spending a whole week and talking to over 20 different people, the cheapest I could get anything done was for $50,000!! So much for being "easy" and "saving money".
Also, they sell you on that they have all these apps, but what they do not tell you, that a lot of the apps cost an extra 150-300 a month.
We finally found a developer that was within my budget, and they recommended using Wordpress/ Woocommerce. I came back to BigCommerce and said we were moving to a different platform. They came back and said I owed $15,000.00 to break my contract (even though we have no website, and its only been active for less than 3 months).
Pretty much BigCommerce is selling a bad product, that you need to pay someone 50K to make it look good. DO NOT GO WITH BIG COMMERCE. I have had a much better experience with Shopify and Woocommerce. I would recommend either of those before Big Commerce.
