  1. Building Materials Supplier

Written by the company

Tackling one of the biggest pain points in the construction industry, Billd offers commercial subcontractors financing terms that finally align with their payment cycles. Supply chain finance has long been broken in construction, leaving contractors footing the bill for materials and labor far before they're paid for their work. With a flagship product that offers 120-day terms on material purchases, subcontractors can now improve their cash flow to take on larger projects, finish projects faster, and grow their business.

Very excited to utilize the Bild services

We are a $70M concrete sub doing multifamily and public work. I connected with Billd over the past few weeks and they have a unique and interesting approach to helping with the slow pay issue in construction. What I appreciate most is the fact that they really understand construction and how relationships work between the GC, sub and Supplier. We are looking forward to working with the Billd team more.

Excellent Product

We’ve worked with Billd for the past two years and offer their products to our subcontractor customers as a flexible option for payment on occasion. Billd’s process is super easy, we get paid up front via ACH with clean communication so we can release materials to the jobsite quickly. Their supplier team has always easy to work with and responsive. These guys are no-nonsense outfit that know the industry well and look out for their customers.

Do not risk your company

A startup that should not be in the construction industry. We do 5m-6m in project per year and they so far have been the worst financial “partner” we’ve come across. Very unreliable, they have not worked out their systems or processes at all. Do not trust them to finance materials on your project as they may simply just fall through with their “purchase agreement” and leave you high and dry. Another big issue, they sent out a threatening email to the owner and prime contractor for payment claiming we were past due and which we were not, they simply claimed it was a mistake after threatening to sue our prime and the state entity the job was for and really messed up a new working relationship we had with a big contractor. Never talked to us before mailing a certified letter… huge issue. We’ll never use them again and highly advise other contractors not to risk your company with a poorly ran startup.

I’m very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your latest material financing. We do everything we can for our subcontractors to ensure a seamless and timely payment, both on our Pay App and for our Material Financing. As a company, we take a lot of pride in delivering exceptional service and we’ll be looking into what happened here to identify areas we can improve. Feel free to email your Account Manager and we can further investigate this particular purchase.

The sales team sold me factoring

The sales team sold me factoring, which is what I was looking for and specifically explained 3 times to two different people. After uploading docs, and Billd running my credit, I was then told that they don't provide the service that I was sold on. Terrible company

We’re sorry that you had a negative experience, and that our offering was unclear. While our products provide immediate cash flow relief, like factoring, there are many important differences in how they are built and serviced. Most importantly, our products are designed specifically for subcontractors and enable your success, not hinder it.

That means we take careful consideration for each of your projects. In order to be true partners to subcontractors, Billd makes sure that each and every project is the right fit for both of us. We never want to put a customer in a situation where one of our financial products wouldn’t make sense for your business.

Hi Lynn, this is Jon Katz, our SVP of Marketing.

I wanted to personally reach out and address this. First and foremost, I want to thank you for being a customer of ours for almost 2 years and trusting us as a partner on 10 different construction projects. It appears by this review that this is the first of 10 projects where there was a miscommunication, and for that, I want to personally apologize.

As I'm sure you already know, we maintain our mechanics lien rights as the supplier of record, not only to protect our interest in the project, but also yours. If payment to you is delayed over 120 days, it's in both of our interest to take action and to ensure you're paid for your hard-earned work.

To address the comment regarding our customer service; People are the cornerstone of our business. They care deeply about the work they do and the subcontractors they support. I appreciate you letting us know about this. We'll look into what happened, and make sure we're always striving to improve our services for our customers.

A Man of His Word

In my opinion most companies sell you in the beginning and and never follow though. I saw it first hand where our company was in a situation and Travis said he would look into and get back to us. Not only did he do what he said he was going to do but he actually rectified our situation at the time. That goes along way with me. I am happy at this time to say we feel like we have a partner with Billd thanks to Travis Mayor.

Misled - Babysitting

I was told we had an unlimited credit limit once a project was approved, not true. This resulted in an unexpected expense of $43,000. First transaction was straight forward though I had to remind them to apply the promotions we had been promised. 2nd and 3rd transaction were not approved and I found this out on my own - aka, was not notified by the billd team of the denial of payment. After jumping through a week of hoops (and asking our supplier to also jump through those hoops by breaking out invoices retroactively to match exactly the amount being funded due), the two transactions were approved just in time to not be late on that months payment. I had to once again remind them to apply the promotions they had promised. Come to find out that the underpaid our vendor twice.

Tip for future users: Know your credit limit with Billd, keep a close eye on your purchase statements to make sure the numbers line up, make sure your vendors are being paid the correct amount and that your promo's are applied. If you are looking for something easier in which you don't need to pay so much attention...apply for a line of credit.

Pros: It was a great learning experience in regards to what questions to ask organizations that aren't a traditional bank. In theory, when things go smoothly, this is an excellent resource.

I will give the team credit where credit is due - Charles has been endlessly helpful, understanding and expressed sympathy/compassion in sorting this all out and they have righted all the wrongs, except for the unexpected $43,000 expense due to a restricted credit limit.

No need to reply to this message Billd - I've been in direct touch with your team about these issues and have expressed my frustration vebally - future customers should know to proceed with an open eye.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re glad Charlie and the team were able to resolve these issues with you. In the spirit of our core value of always better, we want to highlight some ways we’re preventing any such inconveniences from occurring again.

Billd has dynamic credit limits that grow with your business. This is designed to give our customers the flexibility to take on more and bigger projects. We have some fantastic new features in development for our portal that will allow customers to see their credit limits live, but in the meantime you can reach out to your account representative at any time to receive your exact credit limits.

Most importantly, we value your relationships more than anything else. You worked hard to cultivate that with your supplier, and we would never attempt to put it in jeopardy. We appreciate any feedback that would make communications between you, Billd, and your supplier more streamlined.

Stealing my Integrity by destroying my Company name

The process to sign on was incredibly easy. However they do not disclose the credit amount that you were approved for which I did not find out until I was in the height of season. Billd says it is a 120 term and they only charge you the interest weekly. I have never been late and they have sent out letter to my clients for non payment and a mechanically lien for money that is not even due yet. I pay all my bills prior to a net -120. Now my clients think I have trouble paying a bill that is either paid in full and or are in good standing. I am a minority women-owned business that had to struggle to get to where I am now and Billd intentional sending out letter to my client for an account in good standing. I have been trying to reach out to Billd, specifically Gabrielle with no response. They are trying to destroy my name and that is why I file a claim with the Attorney General. They are taking the credibility of my name and how do I get it back. I have made my complaint public with the Attorney General for all to see. This is wrong and I need justice.

Hi - we are really sorry for any impact these communications had on your business. A big part of what we do is making sure that you get paid for your work, and in order to do this we often have to send documents in accordance with state regulations (preliens, for example). It is never our goal to interfere with your relationships with your customers, and we apologize if our communications impacted you in this way at all. We always value customer feedback; it is an invaluable tool that helps us improve our processes every day. We want to always be better - for ourselves and for you- and we appreciate the open line of communication. We look forward to building our relationship with you.

Billd is a Godsend!!!

Billd has been a literal answer to our prayers as an organization. Being a sub-contractor has challenges, several of which Billd has eased.

Most notably, Billd allows us to procure materials and pay for them when we are paid by our clients. Rather than us financing the material purchases by either paying vendors upfront or Net 30, while still not having been paid by our clients, Billd pays cash to our vendors and we reimburse them when our clients release payment to us, up to 120 days. This frees up our cash flow and allows us to continue operating without constraint, creates better relationships with our vendors, helps us keep our promises to our clients, and keeps the synergy flowing within our organization.

Without Billd, there are several projects that would have been a financial burden to our company, but with Billd, we have a partner that understands the construction industry like no other financing company I have come in contact with. No predatory lending, real people that answer the phone, and most importantly someone in our corner. Our relationship with Billd was one of the best decisions I have made as an owner in the construction industry since I began.

Thank you Billd!
