It was a great experience, thanks to the expertise of Dr Koch and his staff. Everything was planned and booked for me and I arrived at the hotel in Cottbus without any problem. Hotel was also great. Recovery after the surgery was extremely fast with very minimal pain. A few hours after surgery I went for a long walk. Just 5 weeks later I am already fully recovered and back to my active lifestyle. Overall very happy and satisfied and my mind at rest that no synthetic plastic mesh has been inserted inside me.

I am extremely pleased with my experience from beginning to end. The procedure was a success, and my recovery unfolded exactly as it had been outlined to me. Six weeks later, I am fully healed and have resumed all physical activities and sports without any restrictions.

The medical team was very friendly, warm, professional, attentive, and supportive throughout the entire journey. From the initial consultation to the post-operative follow-up, every step was managed with clarity and genuine care, which gave me complete confidence in the process.

I first visited visited BioHernia six years ago for an inguinal hernia and recently returned to have one fixed on the other side plus an umbilical one. I could not be more satisfied with the treatment I received on both occasions and am now fully mended and pain-free. Whilst I hope not to develop any more hernias I would have no hesitation in using to BioHerinia again if I do.

I chose Biohernia in Frankfurt for hernia surgery, as my inguinal hernia was small (but so painful!) and I wanted to avoid mesh. I'd been in severe pain for months in the UK, trying to make progress through the health system - but my life was falling apart as I was mostly bedridden, unable to work, and my quality of life was massively affected. So the importance of finding the best treatment was very clear.

I was impressed by the knowledgeable and efficient communications with Nahom as the first point of contact with Biohernia. My decision was sealed on understanding Dr Weise's level of specialism and vast experience in hernia surgery, incorporating mesh-free techniques. On meeting Dr Weise, he is very welcoming, reassuring, and maintains a strong personal connection throughout the process. I felt he cares for each patient, takes pride in his work, and loves what he does. The clinical team seemed carefully selected, and the anaesthetist was also excellent. 

An ultrasound scan was performed at my in-person appointment to confirm the hernia/ type/ location, which was done very smoothly. The operation went well, and I was able to return to the hotel quickly afterwards. I was a bit sore of course, but nothing compared to the previous hernia pain, so I was happy beyond words at the outcome.       

Some practical points: The clinic can arrange hotel accommodation, so the logistics were very conveniently handled. The hotel is very friendly and well set up for the many people who use it for this purpose. I liked being around other people who were having the same procedure, as this was a nice community. Kelkeim itself is quiet and pleasant - although if you can plan the timing of your procedure in advance, ideally avoiding deepest winter would make walking around easier.

I was confirmed fit to travel within a couple of days, which would have been fine. I personally did appreciate taking a few more days in the hotel to relax throughout the recovery. Also, importantly, over those days I noticed some leg pain that was not related to the treatment at Biohernia, but just stemmed from having walked with a limp for months due to the hernia pain. I asked Dr Weise about this, and he arranged an amazing physio treatment that relieved this, and explained how to address these mechanical issues. So my advice would be to communicate any such questions that arise during aftercare, as the team has wide experience for a holistic treatment plan.

As a result of this treatment from Dr Weise and the team, I have got my life back from the hernia pain - and I am extremely grateful and happy. It has been a very positive and professional experience that has also given me fond memories on this journey. I would strongly recommend this option to anyone considering hernia surgery.

I underwent an umbilical hernia surgery in Frankfurt on 18/12/2025. The whole experience from the beginning was great. Dr. Wiese is a very experienced surgeon and was very reassuring from the video consultation throughout the whole process. We stayed in the Hotel Kelheimer Hof which was pre booked for us and located only 8 minutes walk from the hospital, the hotel staff was very helpful and kind during our stay. Also a big thank you for Nahom who organised everything and kept touch with me. As they advise on their home page walking is really essential and life saver ☺️ during the recovery stage, please bear this in your mind.

I had my surgery on 30/07/2025 and feel truly privileged to have been treated by Dr Koch and his staff. I was on my feet couple of hours after surgery and out and about the same evening. Pain was negligible and I would call it more discomfort. I received excellent care and the entire experience went far beyond my expectation.
Although initially I was very anxious about facing surgery- confidence, skill and kindness shown by Dr Koch and his staff immediately put me at ease. I felt
safe, supported and in the best possible hands from start to finish.

The first step is an online consultation with your surgeon of choice. The process is slick and communication is speedy.
I chose Dr Andreas Koch, who is based in Cottbus, one hour east of Berlin by road. He is a Hernia specialist and treats patients from across the World. On the day of my operation, I was in the company of patients from Scotland, Holland and the USA.
I stayed for a week with my wife and made a holiday of the visit as one is up and walking almost immediately. Walking is part of the recovery process.
Dr Koch is a really nice guy and visits you in the hotel every day until he decides you are ready to travel home. He and I had a common interest in music which was nice.
Cottbus has a historic town centre with plenty to see and do.
I thought the price paid was very reasonable and I am very happy with the end result. The scar is now hardly visible and my inguinal hernia has disappeared.

I am a female from the UK, age 50. After much consideration and reading of reviews, I decided to travel to Cottbus, Germany for bilateral inguinal hernia surgery without mesh, with Dr Koch. I am really pleased with the recovery and outcome and now after 8 weeks I am completely back to normal with no pain and no unsightly bulges! I would highly recommend considering BioHernia. From start to finish it was a seamless process and I felt that I was in very good hands with Dr Koch. He is obviously very experienced and put my mind at rest immediately. The first couple of days after bilateral surgery are a little rough but I am a big wimp and even I was able to handle it!
Cottbus is also a lovely town to wander with lovely eating out options and a quiet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for recovery. The hotel and staff were fab too and were happy to give ice for recovery, The breakfast at the hotel is lovely too. One recommendation is to bring someone with you to help you in the first day or so after the operation and to help you travel home. And loose fitting trousers are a must!

Very happy with the hernia surgery that Dr. Wiese performed on me. I'm glad I made the trip to see him, and grateful that he came up with a great non-mesh solution for me.

Have been operated by Dr Koch in Cottbus for a returning hernia. The result as well as the experience was, again, above imagination. The team, the ambiance, the support and guidance but for all the relaxed, very friendly and presence of Dr Koch makes it a superb experience where quality (the result), human approach and goodfeel makes the difference. A no-brainer for all of you who want a NO-MESH repair !

For us it was more like a holiday rather than a inguinal hernia surgery!
Now, writing this six weeks after the surgery I don’t feel anything anymore. Jus a little swelling were the cut was made. I can even see the cut hardly. I’m jogging over 30 minutes without any trouble and riding bike, walking, everything. And that’s what really matters, how life is after surgery. And that is great again.
About the contact, communication, friendliness and expertise from Biohernia, Dr. Koch and his staff and even the people from the Sorat Hotel in Cottbus a big applause. From the first contact until the last, simply superb.
And staying in the Hotel where Dr. Koch came by once or twice a day after the surgery made me a free man for the rest of the day, so my wife and I could stroll trough Cottbus and made some tours in the area. That is much more pleasant than laying in a swampy hospital all day waiting.

Martin was a fantastic surgeon. My umbilical hernia repair was a little more complicated as it was the third time I needed to have it done (twice in the UK) - hence wanting to find an expert and have a biodegradable mesh. Martin was extremely competent and kind, and the whole team at the clinic were supportive, friendly and professional. Great follow-up / aftercare too. Biohernia / Nahom was really communicative and helpful at getting everything arranged. Definitely recommend both BioHernia and Martin!

All aspects of the medical treatment by Dr Wiese, his excellent anaesthetist and team were first-rate. The hernia repair was a short process and I was up and walking the same day. A week later I was pain free and moving normally.

The only reservation which makes this a less than 5 star review is that the Hotel Arkaden in Kellheim is the worst hotel I've stayed in in 20 years. When we arrived in the evening my wife wondered whether I had been victim of a scam.

The consultation the next day completely settled that anxiety. However, I'd recommend finding alternative accomodation.

Two years on…
My reasons for choosing a tissue repair, and my experience at Cottbus, echo the many other reviews here with Dr Koch’s team, the Sorat Hotel and Cottbus city.
I was the only patient from the UK, and travelled alone, which initially felt a bit scary, but the other patients using the hotel, and their companions (mainly from Holland), were very kind and made sure I was OK. Many thanks to them and I hope they also had good recoveries.
The only real pain I experienced post-op was getting in and out of bed and made me a bit worried, perhaps unnecessarily, about damaging the repair. I found some useful videos on YouTube from qualified physiotherapists that explained a technique helpful after abdominal surgery, and I used this for a few weeks.
Two years on, I am still very happy with the treatment for my right inguinal hernia, and have been able to get back to all my sporting activities with no pain. I do avoid exercises that put a lot of pressure on the abdomen, such as crunches but that is a precaution to avoid a hernia on my left side.

I am so glad that I listened to my instincts.
I was scheduled to have surgery for a hernia in
November 2024. However, I live in Ireland, where
hernias are repaired with a plastic mesh.
My instincts were screaming against this, so I did
some research and I found BioHernia.
From my first consult on the phone, I knew that

I cancelled my upcoming surgery, and made
arrangements to go to Germany.

After a consult in Amsterdam, I had surgery in Cottbus, Germany. Dr. Koch, who collaborates with a local hotel, ensured a warm welcome and answered all questions. On surgery day, his team arranged a taxi, and the procedure was done within an hour. Dr. Koch visited daily to check my progress, and after a few days, I was cleared to go home. With monthly visits to Amsterdam, follow-up consults are easy. Given the issues with mesh placement, Dr. Koch’s quick, easy, and successful surgery without mesh makes you wonder why anyone chooses otherwise.

I was aware that the mesh hernia repair has its drawbacks and that the natural tissue repair approach represents the practice Gold Standard.
Unfortunately this method is uncommon in UK & therefore turned to BioHernia . My operation in Frankfurt was superbly organised by Nahom, including my hotel stay.
My surgeon, Dr Martin Weise was very approachable and, kindly explained the procedure . The key areas included

2.Operation. Excellent result bearing in mind my inguinal hernia was quite large .
