Make sure you get a guide, at least.
This is a difficult review too write. It is 1* for the tour and 5***** for the hospitality of Mokhtar's family. We had a marvellous marvellous time at the camp, but we did not have a tour - it was more of a taxi service to the camp and back.
- there was no guide or anyone else who spoke English. The driver spoke limited French (as did we).
- the car was unbearably hot. I overheated and I was very ill. We did not think we were going to make to the camp. If you travel in February, the temperature in the car may not be an issue.
- We did not visit any nomad tents or villages and we had no tea with nomads, as promised. Maybe because we left an hour late.
- since we had no guide, we did not know what places we passed. We had no idea we had crossed the lake Iriki on the way there!
- There was no fire or music in the evening, as promised. Still, we had a superb superb meal.
- The camp was different from the photos, yet it did not really matter because Mokhtar's family where so attentive and kind.
- We did have a fabulous time on the camp. We climbed the dunes, watched the dawn which was incredible.
- The family had very kindly made last minute arrangements for us to sleep outside, rather than in the tents. And that was the real highlight. I cannot thank them enough for that! Sleeping under the stars was unforgettable.
- On the way back, we visited no oasis, no village, no ksar of zawiat. We simply drove back.
While hospitality of the family and sleeping under the stars was memorable, the rest of the trip was mismanaged: no guide, means no information, no communication.
If you choose to use them, please, make sure that at least you have a guide.
