Unfinished work

Saturday 6th December 2025 BK Joinery started work on oak cladding our stairs and installing new oak banisters with glass inserts top and bottom. On Sunday 7th December 2025 as they were coming to the end of the day, we were informed that they have to order both pieces of glass and this will be installed as soon as possible as well as the remaining oak wood to be installed to complete the works. As it was coming up to the Christmas season and in good faith, WE PAID IN FULL!!!!!!!!!!!! Days went by, and we were told that the glass company was closed over the Christmas season and it would be the new year, before that glass could be cut to size and collection.
It is now 20th April 2026 (18 weeks later) we are still waiting for the stairs to be completed and the glass installed. Kelvin has informed me that he would like to offer me a partial refund and would post the remaining oak to us (9 times he has messaged me this information, STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
We can not have the grandchildren overnight as they could fall in between the banister and stairs where the glass should be. This is a major safety hazard. We are now having to find an alternative carpenter who will be prepared to complete someone elses unfinished work.
As all the promises have not materialised, we are now having to go to the small claims court and let the court come to a closure on this.
We welcomed them into our house, we feed and watered them and paid them in full, what a let down. We are massively disappointed.

Not sure about Bk-Joinery, Grantham

I spotted Bk-Joinery's website and sent them an email about some gates I wanted to be made with the necessary dimensions. I got a price back in a one line email reply which was acceptable. I followed up with another mail asking is they had all necessary information, what their lead-time was etc. I didn't get a reply. After a week I rang them and was asked to send all the dimension information through again on Whatsapp (which seemed strange, as its harder to use for lots of data than an email) which I did with some effort. I was then told I needed to send the full payment through via an (untraceable) payment app for the order to be accepted. I'd be happy to pay a deposit to a recognised company's bank account with a supporting invoice, but not the full amount and not when I was unsure if Kelvin had all the necessary information. I declined to order. Bk-Joinery may be a fully legitimate company which produces good products and offers good service, but in my view its too risky to deal with them given how my enquiry and prospective order was handled. Buyer beware !
