worked with rich personally

worked with rich personally. this is one of the best agency so far. they are focused on client success and they really care about the satisfaction of each client.

They also had this system that if you are having a bad experience working with their team, their whole team jumps into the channel to remove any hiccups you may have. i would definately prefer working with them if you are in the ecommerce spac.

im happy

the real deal. was skeptical after dealing with so many ad agencies, these guys were cheaper and better in every way vs the ad agency i was with before. i dont have time to manage ads or micromanage a marketing team, this team reports to me weekly and everyday i see what they are working on in slack. its the slack support that sets them apart imo.
they make good creatives too, any instruction or desires i have they make happen. been a solid experience so far 10/10 will edit if they slip but so far im blown away

We have been using black hat from day 1

We have been using black hat from day 1, and have been very satisfied with the services we get. They are communicating with our team regularly on email campaigns. Ads are always live and very effective. Our RoAS fluctuates but it has always been profitable to our bottom line to use black hat. We will stay a customer forever!

Blackhat has delivered above and beyond…

Blackhat has delivered above and beyond for us. They keep our ads running and delivering performance well above our expectations. They even implemented a tracking system that works on our domain that’s blocked by Meta. I can’t say enough about how happy I’ve been working with them!

Promised 1.0 ROAS, Never Delivered. My Own Ads Beat Theirs 10:1

I engaged Blackhat Strategy for roughly 7 weeks to manage paid advertising. Posting this so other buyers can decide with full information. Every point below is from my direct experience, and I've updated it to address the company's reply.

On the ROAS numbers. The company states the account reached ~1x early and climbed to ~3x. That is their platform-reported, ad-account-level figure. My independent ThoughtMetric attribution never reconciled with it. In the final ~10 days before I ended the engagement, ThoughtMetric attributed a 0.25 ROAS on their campaigns. Over that same window, creatives I ran myself attributed 3 to 5x. Their reported numbers and independently-attributed numbers were not close, and that gap is the reason I'm posting. Any prospective client should verify one against the other before trusting it.

On the "side by side" campaigns. The company notes my parallel campaigns weren't connected to their reporting environment. Correct, and that's the point. They were measured independently in ThoughtMetric, same store, same window. Same period, same business, one quarter of a return from them versus 3 to 5x from campaigns I built myself.

On expertise and communication. This is the core of my review. The account managers assigned to me could not answer direct questions about advertising metrics or their own tooling. When I asked how figures were being calculated or why attributed performance didn't match their reporting, I did not get competent answers. Response speed was not the issue. They replied quickly and often. The replies did not reflect a working understanding of the advertising they were being paid to manage.

On the service model. In my experience, the work amounted to AI-generated campaigns that were then left largely untouched, with little ongoing optimization to justify the retainer. That is a setup a business owner can replicate themselves, at no management cost, and in my case with a far better return. Paying a premium retainer should buy expertise and active management. I did not receive either.

On the refund. To be precise about what was returned: the refund was unspent ad budget, money that was mine the entire time, held to be spent on ads and never spent. No management fees were refunded. Presenting the return of a client's own unspent ad dollars as something the agency provided is misleading.

Recommendation. Before hiring them, run your own campaigns side by side and verify every reported number with independent attribution. In my case, doing that is exactly what exposed the gap between what was reported and what was real.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We take all client feedback seriously, but we strongly disagree with this characterization of the engagement.

During the campaign, our reporting was pulled directly from the connected ad account data. Within the first two weeks, the campaign reached approximately 1x ROAS, and during the engagement it climbed to approximately 3x ROAS at the ad account level. For a campaign still in its early ramp-up and testing phase, those are strong early indicators and not consistent with the claim that the campaign “never delivered.”

It is also important to understand that platform-reported attribution and third-party attribution tools can produce different numbers. Attribution windows, tracking setup, assisted conversions, customer journeys, checkout behavior, and attribution rules can all affect what each system reports. We were transparent about the data source we used and provided reporting directly from the connected ad account.

The client also ran separate campaigns outside of our management during the same period. Those campaigns were not connected to our reporting environment, were not controlled or optimized by our team, and were not part of the campaign structure we were hired to manage. Because we did not have access to the setup, attribution logic, creative history, audiences, spend levels, or optimization conditions of those separate campaigns, we cannot verify or fairly compare those results against the campaigns we managed.

Throughout the relationship, our team maintained consistent communication, reviewed performance, provided guidance, and gave additional management time at no additional cost. We also spent considerable time explaining that roughly seven weeks is a short evaluation window for paid advertising, especially when campaigns are still gathering data, testing creative, and moving through the optimization process.

When the client requested the return of unspent ad funds, those funds were returned promptly. We did not represent that as a refund of management fees. We simply honored the request and returned the remaining ad budget.

We stand behind the work performed, the communication provided, the transparency of our reporting, and the early campaign performance achieved during a short engagement window. While we respect every client’s right to evaluate results through their preferred attribution method, we do not agree with claims that our team misrepresented performance, failed to manage the account, or lacked transparency.

Great Ads

If you ask anyone in a high-risk industry about Blackhat, they always have good things to say, and that's for a reason. Black Hat always under-promises and over-delivers. Couldn't be more pleased with my experience with them.
