Black Ties’ business model is that you receive “rock star” treatment when you use them. We were ignored, items broken, walls damaged, inaccurate estimate of charges and no response from the owner after requesting a phone call.
It’s not unreasonable to expect their salesperson to get close on estimating how long a move will take- this is what he does for a living. He told us 2-3 hours when the move took 7.5 hours- this matters when you’re paying hourly. We took the time to provide a full list of items being moved, with dimensions- so we don’t know why he wasn’t more accurate. We also requested a box for a large screen TV- they brought one that was 10” too small. They broke the TV, however we should have been covered since we purchased the EXTRA coverage on our items.
Buyer beware if you do purchase the additional “insurance” or damage coverage, because when our TV was broken by their movers, it is the manager of Black Tie that determines the value and reimbursement amount of the broken item. This seems to be a conflict of interest, especially since we didn’t agree with his valuation of the TV. However, don’t think the manager will ever take the time to call you- even if you ask multiple times for a call back. He will email you- but will NOT call. We had several other issues: damaged walls and a furniture dolly that was accidentally taken by the crew- that we wanted to discuss with the manager, however, he will not talk to unhappy customers.
We would never recommend Black Tie to anyone. We would have had a better experience if we hired two guys with a random truck (because that’s what they looked like anyway) and probably spent a lot less.

They were on time and worked constantly. But one of my lampshades was completely destroyed during the move. And they are expensive to replace. Also all my shoes were left.
I’d like to be reimbursed for the lampshade.

The original two guys that helped us move out were great. However, when moving in to our new home there were 3 guys that we could tell they were a third party movers, rather than being part of BlackTieMoving. These guys scuffed and chipped our walls, which is fixable, but definitely not ideal. Also, we had enough cash to tip the original 2 guys that helped us move out. But when the extra 3 guys showed up(which we were not made aware of) we did not have that amount of cash. To make it more awkward, one of the third party guys asked us for a tip, saying that they would not receive any tips we would give BlackTieMoving, this put my fiance and I in a very uncomfortable position, as we were not expecting them and couldn’t tip them either. In the end, all of our stuff got in one piece, they were on time, and great with communication . We would use and recommend this company again.

My experience with Black Tie Movers was excellent, from start to finish. The details of the move were communicated well from scheduling up to moving day. Jose and Aaron were organized, professional, courteous and friendly. They took great care with my belongings; shrink wrapped all of my furniture, disassembled and reassembled large pieces with care. These guys did for me what I could not have done for myself, and made for a stress free moving day. Thank you so much!

The guys that came out were so professional and worked so hard. Everything was moved in fast order and with utmost care. I cannot be more pleased.

Movers were on time, they worked hard, and finished ahead of schedule on our long distance move. They wrapped our furniture the best we’ve ever had it done compared to other moves and we experienced no damage to furniture or belongings.

The company also offered help setting up utility services at our new address (which we declined because we had already done it ourselves). However we’ve never known a moving company to offer this service and it can be very convenient.

They did a great job. I would definitely recommend them for all moving needs.

Their service was extremely professional. The drivers Tristan & Tristan were showed up on time and performed the job swift and safe. I'm grateful to have chosen them to do my moving service.

I’ve used lots of moving companies in the past and this is the best company by far. The guys were so nice, kind, professional and quick. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Black Tie.

Two stars for doing the bare minimum job. -3 stars for making me feel like shit bc he had to do it. First time I hired movers and this company was recommended to me by two different people. One guy was friendly but it was obvious the other mover was upset the entire time. The move wasn’t fun for anyone, but I even helped the entire time by moving stuff to the new apartment myself and loading the elevator with stuff as well. The friendly mover even literally said that I turned a two man job into a three man job. At the end, I asked for both of their cash apps or Venmo’s so I could send them a tip and the upset mover replied to the other mover “I’m good mane” with an attitude and stormed out of the apartment. Even so, I sent the other mover extra money for him to send to the upset guy later. Right after they left I received a call for the payment and at first I tried to be nice and not say anything but it actually really bothered me how shitty I felt at the end so I ended up saying that my experience wasn’t great but I guess it didn’t matter bc they already received my $1k+ for the move and all I got back as a reply was “I apologize, I don’t really know what happened. But I apologize” and it was obvious no one cared to hear me elaborate on why it wasn’t great. If you want to feel like shit for hiring people to do the job they signed up to do, hire black tie movers.
They also damaged the corner of my bedframe, you can even see underneath where a piece of wood is chipped off. It 100% was not like this before the move.
So I paid $1k+ to be made to feel like crap and a ruined piece of furniture, even though I spent time HELPING the movers do their own job.

The guys were so professional and personable. They took great care of all of items. Most importantly, they were happy doing their jobs!

The team was very professional, on time, clean and respectful. The price was what the quoted and that is important. They we careful with my things and made sure I was happy with their service.

The two men crew (Ben and I regretfully forget the other gentleman's name) were amazing. But it all started with Chris during the booking process then Skylar during confirmation that put my anxiety at ease with ensuring all details are noted and expectations were aligned for this move from OH to IL. The two men were efficient, professional, consideration, and polite. Moving is stressful enough but they made it a breeze!
