We ordered blackout roman blinds as we have them (provided by Hillarys) in other rooms and found them to be a good blackout solution. However the blinds from Blinds Direct had very noticeable horizontal lines of stitching holes letting light through and the blinds were made narrower than the header resulting in light coming around the blinds, also one of the blinds was made with the winder on the wrong side. This is customer service response: In regard to the small amounts of light visible through the horizontal stitching, this is an unavoidable characteristic of Roman blinds. The stitching is required to join the face fabric and lining together, and as a result, very small stitch holes can allow some light to pass through. This is not considered a manufacturing fault and is highlighted within the important notes on our website when ordering. If you require the blind to block out these small areas of light completely, blackout backing tape can be purchased from retailers such as Amazon. This can be applied to the rear of the blind over the stitching to prevent the light from penetrating through these points. Regarding the control side, the control mechanism is universal and can be changed from one side to the other. There is a small screw securing the mechanism in place, which can be removed to allow the control to be switched to the opposite side. Therefore, this does not require the blind itself to be remade. In terms of the width, the headrail/mechanism is normally manufactured approximately 1cm narrower than the overall recess width supplied. The fabric then extends beyond the mechanism, allowing the blind to operate correctly. This is standard construction for our Roman blinds. We will not be using this company again.
