BMO RECOMPENSE PROGRAM is useless.

BMO RECOMPENSE PROGRAM is useless. They always forget to give us the points we earn on money spent on the Master card World Elite. The Client service is awful. Seems the agent who works at this service, dont know how to solve the problem. Either they transfer us from one service to another and we end up starting again and again. It is like a cycle. Even sometimes when they dont know how to solve the issue, they cut the phone line. It happened to me again and again, and my issue is still not solved. I gave them a week to solve the issue by contacting them via email and if the issue is not solved this week, I am going to cancel all my credit cards with them and move all my assets to another institution. Enough is enough.

The worst bank in Canada

In my experience this is the most outdated bank for the 21-century!
I need several attempts to sign in on line. Their system dares to tell me that my dob is wrong; it couldn’t send me a verification code to register my debit card on my iPhone wallet without any explanations! It doesn’t have a MC debit card compared to other chartered banks!
Why would I need to drive a dray in the 21 century when I can easily drive a sport car? I’m not going to waste my time with stupid inconveniences!! They can stuff it where the sun doesn’t shine!

My dealership set up a loan with BMO…

My dealership set up a loan with BMO after I decided to buy my car off of the lease. I have regretted not setting up my own financing with my own bank ever since. I do not have any other products or accounts with BMO and I wish that I had not let the dealership talk me into setting this up with their provider BMO. It is difficult to get the correct number to talk with the right department and you are not provided with any documentation to tell you your balance or interest paid. It takes so long to get a person on the phone and when you do you are transferred and then it starts all over again with the verification. I was then told to go into a branch with various pieces of identification in order to get these questions answered. I tried to explain that I am on medical leave and not able to go into a branch at this time and that I was able to get this information on the phone last year. As I was trying to express this to the agent he repeatedly was talking over me and not letting me finish my sentences. He was not listening and was just repeating himself. My last payment of the year had already come out of my account, but he told me the information I wanted would not be available until the new year and I said that I understood and if I called back in the new year could I get it then? Again he is talking over me and insisting that I go into a branch. I finally raised my voice and asked him to stop talking over me and to let me ask a question. He basically said thank you for calling BMO and have a good day and disconnected me. I waited 45 minutes to be antagonized and then treated like I was a problem. I don't know what training these agents receive, but it is not good customer service at all! They say that they don't provide statements, but if I had other accounts with them I could get access. In other words they are happy to make money off of me while providing nothing in the way of proper assistance or financial information about the one product that I do have. Yet BMO will constantly mail me solicitations to open credit cards or accounts with them. Never going to happen. They don't value the business they have with me now and I am counting down the months to be done with them forever. I have read other reviews saying that it is difficult to get any documentation to release you once your payments are done. I do hope this will not be yet another problem with them.

Misunderstood

I got an account with them… and honestly, it’s been nothing but a nightmare from the beginning… everything I charged to my account gets put on hold.. and I can’t track where my money actually is.. things have been denied.. every time I try to pay a bill it gets on hold for like a week… I am not impressed with this bank. I’ve never had to deal with the things that I have to deal with with this place I traded in hopes of something different but this has been horrible. I do not recommend this bank.

A Joke of a Bank

A Joke of a Bank

Your credit card will be constantly compromised (on their side with shady vendors) and they couldn't give a flying you know what about you as a customer. I highly recommend using other Canadian banks.

Fees...fees..

Fees...fees... Arbitrarily deciding to close my LOC when I'm making my payments... asking me if I want to discuss a mortgage, after they closed my account for no reason...not returning my calls...they are hurting my credit rating! If I could give them a score of negative 5, I would.
Do yourself a favor and run from this "bank" ...what a painful joke. Royal Bank is good, Credit Unions are great...BMO is terrible 👎👎

DISASTROUS BANK

DISASTROUS BANK, STAY AWAY FROM BMO..
Over a period of nearly a month and a half, I requested to make appointment to add more money to my RRSPS'S and was declined in two branches, because there was no one available to take me in, nor they responded back from my messages and emails.
As of right now, I have already started the process to move my RRSPS'S to another bank. My next step in the new year, will be to permanently close my other accounts with them.
Worst bank in Canada, do not give BMO any business you will regret it...

On December 11 2025 iI deposited a check for $10,000 at the branch number 3712 in Brampton . Unfortunately, the teller did not inform me that the funds would be placed on hold. Based on the teller’s communication, I was led to believe that the funds were immediately available.

However, upon contacting the branch manager, Ms. Jacqueline, I was met with an unexpectedly rude and unprofessional response. Despite my polite inquiry, Ms. Jacqueline insisted that the hold was standard policy and that the teller’s failure to communicate this was irrelevant. I found her conduct to be quite concerning and not reflective of the high standards of customer service we expect from BMO.

I am locked out of online banking…

I am locked out of online banking because I don't have a functioning cellphone.
Their site says they will *call* you with a verification code, but I was informed by one of their employees that this code will never work. You MUST have a cellphone.
I'm not a technophobe; I'm just not in a position to get an active cellphone at the moment.

BMO does not care about its customers

I've been a BMO banking customer since 1991. I made an error depositing a cheque for my spouse to an account that did not have his name. I received a call from BMO stating that it would be on hold for up to 6 years but they did recognize I have been a long time customer. I was promised a call back on what options I had by end of that day. I never got a call back and it has been a week already. Called the branch directly to discuss and left a message which indicated I would get a call back by 5pm, they too never called back and again it has been a week. They truly don't care about their clients, and since I have no debt, I will be closing all BMO accounts and moving to a smaller bank that cares about its customers.

I give BMO a one-star rating because…

I give BMO a one-star rating because quarter-star rating increments are unavailable.

We had a motorhome loan through Bank of the West which was acquired by BMO. In November, when we traded the rig for a new one, my next payment was due in 2032!

Despite our prepayment status and near-perfect credit ratings, it was difficult to secure a loan with BMO.

Now, I have invested over 10 hours talking to dozens of operators here and abroad to MAKE A PAYMENT on the new loan. Two ACH attempts have failed.

In desperation, I had the credit union bill-paying service make a test payment; and, today I attempted to sign in to the BMO account for verification and BMO SAYS I DON'T EXIST!

I've owned a half-dozen homes, dozens of cars, a half-dozen airplanes and several boats. In doing so, I've dealt with dozens of banks and credit unions.

None in the span of five decades has been this inept.

I have banked with many different banks over 60 years
BMO Bank of Montreal is absolutely a nightmare to use . Good luck trying to get assistance they ask so many questions to identifying you but really their protocol is excessive. How do you answer their questions on different trans actions if you can get online. I have a good memory but there is a limit to remembering all my transactions. I can’t wait to get rid of this BMO , the stress is not tolerable.

To do online banking with BMO

To do online banking with BMO, one must now have a cell phone. This means I must pay whatever a month for a cell phone as they will not accept my VOIP land line even though it gives me a security code from the bank. I keep some money in BMO as my pension goes into BMO but have taken a large amount of my savings out and put them in a credit union.
