Irish version of Reddit, but worse

The Irish version of Reddit. The website itself is awful. Dated, slow, has horrendous search functionality and poorly laid out. It was once a good source of useful information but it's hard to find anything and what's the point when LLMs find up to date stuff a lot faster?

In terms of the content? Well the overzealous moderation destroyed the humour, debate and crucially, the fun. It's now just a leftist echo chamber and the mods ensure it stays that way, so don't expect much "debate" if you visit. Not sure who's paying to prop up the corpse but evidently they have more money than sense.

Highly problematic site

Boards.ie has a very serious problem with antisemitism, racism, and bigotry. I cannot recommend it to anyone who values a safe or respectful online environment.

I repeatedly encountered posters expressing overt antisemitism, racism and open support for terrorism. In the aftermath of the October 7th attacks, several users openly celebrated the violence, voiced support for terrorism and later engaged in denial or minimisation.

Antisemitic rhetoric is an everyday feature of the site and accepted as normal, everyday discussion.

Instead of enforcing community standards, moderators and administrators tolerate this material while simply banning users who attempt to call it out.

The end result is an toxic environment where hateful content is normalised and accountability is essentially nonexistent.

Just an awful site

Just an awful site, clique driven. I have been permanently banned for the crime of trying to set up an account for an elderly parent, on the same phone I setup my own account.
Pathetic moderators.

Moderation political bias

If you wish to discuss politics and are both conservative and humorous your life will be short lived on boards.ie before you are banned.

A sad decline.

A high threshold expected from those in the centre or on the left whilst the right are allowed to post demonstrable untruths. Used to be decent, now an Irish version of Twitter/X. A sad decline.

Boards.ie is an absolute cesspit of…

Boards.ie is an absolute cesspit of leftist bias, almost fascist in it's nature due to its censorship .It has 'moderators' who have very little clue about how to deal with people and use their limited intellect to shut down conversation that they do not agree with. If it's aligned with their thought process, you can say things that are blatantly untrue and you will be backed up if someone comes in and explain the truth, while they get the ban. If you disagree with the approved narrative you get a sanction can get banned from threads or even the site. I see now they are looking for people to subscribe so they can keep the site live. I would pay to have the site shut down to be honest, or buy it out and remove all censorship within the law that is. SHUT IT DOWN!!!

Used to be a great site

Used to be a great site, before it got over moderated to death.

Special mention goes out to Beasty, it's not coincidental that his name repeatedly appears here, he singlehandedly has destroyed the place.

Biased mods with their…

There are biased mods with their protected chums on the current affairs forum. The new warning system for this forum is 1 warning 1 day ban and it goes up to 6 months for each warning. No appeal until 6 months .

Trump Derangement syndrome central

Boards chose to hop on the Trump Derangement syndrome train and the site is now no longer a discussion forum but a heavily curated bastian of left wing propaganda.

Beasty and tens of swords have a lot to answer for.

Still rubbish nonsense with messiah 'mods'

Just came back to boards.ie after after having 'given up' on it a while back..... well, its still just the 'same ole, same ole' mods picking out what can be discussed/ posted as per their 'will'. I think its time to finish the poor thing off now, tis so ridiculously awful its beyond a joke at this stage

Full of bullies who are online 24/7 trying to pick posts apart and mods are not much better. I called out a bully on one of my posts for pulling up a previous post of mine to berate me with and the mods gave me a warning.

You also cannot delete any of your posts even from years ago and you cannot change your username unless you pay to subscribe.

It’s just full of pathetic people with nothing better to do than be online ready to argue with everyone and bully posters and as I said the mods are also a pathetic pack of bullies.

It used to be good.

This used to be an excellent forum for discussing almost any topic. It was particularly useful for topics of specifically Irish concern.

Things took a turn for the worse around 2020, however, when the site was sent in a new direction. It appears that moderators were given leave or instructions to remove posts they didn't like, without warning and without reference to the forum rules.

Boards is where it needs to be

Boards is where it needs to be: in the toilet. When I got trolled / banned by IP by the A-hole Dav Waldren for questioning a belligerent ban, I knew it would end up where it is today. There are some good people on there, but they're in a minority. The internet is too big and varied a place to troll people for fun and then ban them. They had a good run, but Karma caught up with them. I was 'Permabanned' in 2013 and now it's the echo chamber it deserves to be.

Beasty, Ten of Swords, Anewme

Once upon a time it was great, now it's moderated to death and God help you if you dissent from the moderators opinions at all. Posts will be deleted, threads erased, users sanctioned and banned with no recourse

It's ceased to be a discussion site and just group think for a very small minority of society which is effective apartheid.

The irony seemingly lost on the self identified liberal moderators who are anything but when you try to raise the point about disliking an opinion doesn't mean it holds no value. The other great irony being I value conservative opinions as balance to liberal ones despite disagreeing with them but find myself defending them against the not so free or fair moderators

Technically the site was weakened massively when it migrated to Canada, personal email addresses were visible for a long time and you could identify people via LinkedIn then. A super GDPR no no
