Disappointed - still waiting

I am so disappointed in this experience. I recommended BookBaby to an author who was self-publishing as his publicist. I worked with a previous self-published author who used BookBaby last year so I encouraged my author to try Bookbaby. Our launch date was 7/22/2025 (4 weeks later than we wanted to launch originally- due to their requirements even though we provided all the formatting) and it is now 8/18/2025 and the book is still showing Temporarily Out of Stock. I spent numerous hours during the critical time of the first 2-3 weeks now almost 4 weeks in and our pre-sales through Amazon have still not been delivered. All the momentum we put in to the launch campaign was deflated by this SNAFU. I cannot recommend Bookbaby again. I went in thinking I was working with a publishing but after my experience feel like it is merely a print shop. The quality of the printing and finished product looks great. (we were able to receive copies that were directly purchased through BookBaby.) The customer service represented were very nice; however, they all were only able to tell me the same thing time and time again, sticking straight to their talking points.
Hope this helps when choosing a company to use when taking the step to self-publish.

I was told that my order would be…

I was told that my order would be completed by the date I needed them and that didn’t happen. I’m not happy with the finished product also.

Bunch of scammers

Bunch of scammers and liar. Expect to pay thousands for no sales and refusing to help you. Don’t expect any sales or cooperation from them.

The package you purchased from us included a discount of the ad development fee, but did not include a free advertising campaign. The metrics from your campaign are available through your account, showing tens of thousands of impressions and hundreds of clicks. We also have clear information on our ad page that the existence of an ad does not guarantee sales.

Good development and production. Atrocious distribution experience

I like the well-informed and expeditious support during the "front in"; eg, project coordination, editing, design and production.
I really dislike the Distribution process! After a pre-sell period to generate demand , my book is still "Temporarily Out of Stock" SIX WEEKS AFTER THE PUBLISHING DATE on Amazon, B&N.com as well as the wholesaler for bookstores (Ingram)!!
This has created a lot of stress, missed sales and a very negative feeling about BookBaby.

My sample book was a huge disappointment! Exec., Linda Hawley said, I will contact production, and they will get back to you. Linda should have personally addressed their huge mistakes!!

Poor follow-up from the Account Exec. to the Production team. She should have personally met with them to find out what went wrong. She didn't.
I'm going to write 8-10 more children's books about the adventures of
Doodles and Molly, and Book Baby is not the caliber of printing and distribution company I want to work with.

Frustrating Distribution Experience Despite a Beautiful Product

The final product looks fantastic—BookBaby did a great job with the design and printing. However, the biggest issue by far has been accessibility. Both major retailers and small independent bookstores have had ongoing difficulty ordering and restocking the book, which creates a serious barrier to reaching readers.

Customer service is responsive in terms of communication, but ultimately not very helpful in resolving the underlying problems. As an author, it's incredibly frustrating to have a polished, beautiful book that I can’t get into the hands of my audience.

BookBaby might be a fit for someone who only wants copies for personal use or direct sales, but I wouldn’t recommend it if your goal is wider distribution or bookstore placement.

Ramona and her great team

I am on my third book with BookBaby, and that is after having poor experiences with other self-publishing companies, including some big names. Any future books of mine will be published with BookBaby, and that is due in large measure to Ramona Pina and her team. I am a novice writer, and Ramona has consistently demonstrated her willingness to help and advise me on the best way forward. She is honest. professional, and incredibly prompt in her responses to all my questions. That alone is becoming increasingly rare in today's marketplace. I am all done shopping for self-publishing companies. I found a home at BookBaby, and I plan to stay home.
