Was a bit confused when it came to which retreats did what as some offer many different options and it's not ordered under who organise, so I ended up contacting the same place 3 different times :)
Anyway I am pleased with the site, now let's see what the holiday offers !

I appreciated the "live Chat"- I described what I was looking for and was provided with 3 suggestions. I booked one of them as it matched what I was looking for. so far so good, just booked with them and the website is excellent at ensuring the host is timely in their responses and it feels much more secure to book via them as I see can cancel until quite late with no fees, which is most reassuring in case of emergency

All that Glitters is not Gold. Poor-quality Yoga/Ayurveda Retreat Paid in Advance
I joined a "5 Day Yoga Ayurveda Sound Healing Retreat in Varkala, India" on the BookRetreats platform. They claim "we've vetted retreats in more than 200 countries", but that is simply not true!
The retreat offered a complete experience with yoga, Ayurveda, temple visits, and outdoor activities. Vegan cuisine was also considered among the dining options, which I was convinced by. Unfortunately, not even half of the aforementioned services were provided to an adequate quality.
The level of service offered was truly low. The food, especially for me (a vegan), was of poor quality. Yoga sessions were not always available. Ayurvedic treatments were not preceded by clinical tests, and no suitable diet/treatment was offered (accordingly to the ayurvedic 'body type').
The host was not welcoming. He never greeted participants at the beginning of the day, nor shared the day's schedule or any changes. Everything seemed haphazard. I repeatedly raised issues with the food, yoga, and other things that weren't working. The responses I received were always vague, justifying the lack of complaints from others rather than addressing the issues.
For example, the only Ayurvedic treatment offered was a massage, and to get it, you had to be taken by the host's scooter (roads are very bad there!) to reach a massage center 10 minutes away the retreat site. Furthermore, the one-hour massage was always shortened to 45 minutes unless you complained.
Another example involved the food: the quantities of rice and chapati (or roti) were disproportionate to the rest, clearly used as a strategy to fill up. One evening at dinner, I was offered a plate of rice with a mediocre sauce and a small bowl of mixed fruit that I rejected.
One day, while the 'official' yoga instructor was away, the host took over the class, which turned out to be extremely low-quality and very similar to a gym workout. The host even asked a young participant to perform poses for everyone to see, while he read them off a sheet of paper.
One major takeaway is that I will never trust the BookRetreats website again, because they don't vet the hosts at all. Also, I will no longer be prepaying for any of these retreats.

More in-depth clinical consultations and personalized medical diets are typically hallmarks of longer, 14-to-21-day immersive panchakarma programs. However, we clearly recognize that this distinction, and the local nature of the logistics, such as transport to the treatment center, was not made clear enough to you at the time of booking. That is a mismatch we take seriously.
Regardless of the length of stay, we expect clear communication and professional instruction. We have addressed your specific concerns regarding the yoga substitutes and the scheduling with the host to ensure they are more transparent with future guests. We are also working with them to update the listing description so the rustic and introductory nature of this short program is more explicit.
We appreciate you helping us set more accurate expectations for our community and for helping us refine our vetting for local-run retreats.
