Absolutely appalling practices. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Like others I thought I was paying a nominal sum of £1.00 to have the results of my ‘free’ test emailed to me.
At the end of the month £39.99 was taken from my account
When I asked for this to be refunded my request was refused on the grounds that I had knowingly signed up to a subscription. I was referred to a tiny line above the very large £1.00 that mentioned £39.99. No mention of whether this would be a one off charge, a monthly charge or an annual charge and I had apparently not cancelled in time!?!?!?
I am raising the issue with my bank, but beware as others have said, this is a total scam using unscrupulous practices

Unexpected subscription charges
Unexpected subscription charges after a $1.41 IQ test
On 17 September 2026, I paid AUD $1.41 for an IQ test, believing it was a one-time purchase. I later discovered two additional charges of AUD $56.88 and $57.19, totalling AUD $114.07.
I did not knowingly agree to a recurring subscription and received no emails confirming my enrolment, explaining the renewal terms or notifying me of these charges.
My account shows that I have not taken another test since 17 September. I also could not find any subscription information, billing history or cancellation option in my account settings.
I have now contacted BrainsMate requesting immediate cancellation, written confirmation and a full refund. I am awaiting their response.
I am sharing my experience so other customers are aware of the potential for recurring charges after purchasing an IQ test. I hope BrainsMate resolves this promptly and will update this review accordingly.

ABSOLUTE **** SCAM. STAY AWAY FROM BRAINZMATE!
What an absolute joke of a company! I took what I thought was a simple IQ test, only to discover a $40 recurring monthly subscription that was never clearly explained to me.
And to make matters worse, CANCELLING IS A ***** NIGHTMARE! You have to jump through ridiculous hoops, mess around with your payment details, remove your card, and go through a bunch of unnecessary bullshit just to try to stop them taking more money.
It feels deliberately designed to make cancelling as difficult as possible.
Misleading charges, a ridiculous cancellation process, and absolutely disgraceful business practices.
I feel completely ripped off. AVOID BRAINZMATE AT ALL COSTS!
