Terrible company to buy from

Terrible company to buy from, especially if you are in the US. They are incompetent, claiming that their errors are your fault in spite of the fact that the problems were caused because they did not read email instructions. Then they refuse to follow transfer and shipping requests but insist that the buyer make all the arrangements even when the shipping company you are using is at their warehouse several times a month. They are truly unhelpful and offensive.

Do not buy a car from this auction!

Do not buy a car from this auction!
I won a car for £2000, expected admin charges and received an invoice for £2700. I paid the invoice and then got another for £1120! Almost double my bid. apparently I didn’t read the small print 😡 I had no choice but to pay. When I collected the car not only was it running rough but there was a nasty smash on one side, not shown on photos or in description! I am furious and I will do whatever i can to get my money back! be warned, they are cowboys and unscrupulous!

AVOID BRIGHTWELLS AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID BRIGHTWELLS AT ALL COSTS!

I bought a vehicle with serious gearbox faults that were never disclosed. Despite their own Terms & Conditions (Condition 35.9 and 35.10), which say it’s the buyer’s responsibility to inspect the lot, how are you supposed to do that properly in an online auction? It’s impossible to physically inspect the vehicle beforehand, yet Brightwells refuses to verify or guarantee any information given by the seller (Condition 35.1, 35.3, 35.4).

I spoke to James at Brightwells, who admitted they only drove the car at 5mph around their site and didn’t detect the problem — but acknowledged the gearbox fault once I reported it. They then offered to relist the vehicle with the fault disclosed. This is a clear admission they sold me a car with serious mechanical defects without disclosure, which is misleading at best.

Brightwells wash their hands of any responsibility, but their own conditions show how little they verify seller info — leaving buyers to bear the full risk. This isn’t just unfair; it’s poor practice.

If you want honesty and proper buyer protection, look elsewhere. Brightwells’ process and customer care are deeply flawed.

“sold as seen” is NOT a legal get-out-of-jail-free card.

In UK law:

The Misrepresentation Act 1967 protects buyers against false or misleading statements, including omissions.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to be as described, of satisfactory quality, and fit for purpose.

I had an extremely concerning…

I had an extremely concerning experience with a car purchased from this auction. Here are the critical issues:

Engine Failure at High Speed: The car's engine stopped working while driving at 60mph. This is a severe safety hazard, and neither the auctioneer nor the police mentioned this issue. This could potentially lead to fatal accidents. Who is responsible if someone gets seriously injured or worse?

Registration Problems: There have been significant issues with applying for the V5 registration. The DVLA seems to have trouble verifying the registration numbers, indicating possible underlying issues with the car’s history.

MOT Concerns: The MOT provided by Brightwells for police cars appears unreliable. This raises doubts about the authenticity and thoroughness of their inspections, posing further safety risks.

Potential buyers should exercise extreme caution and thoroughly inspect any vehicle from this auction. The problems I encountered could have dire consequences.

Excellent, without doubt the best Buying experience at a car auction I visited many, but by far this is the best from the initial phone call they taken the deposit as I was having problems to the completion of the sale with a phone call to say congratulations. Absolutely brilliant thank you

Dubious ethics and suspicious bidding.....

Wow, an arrogance and a complete lack of any empathy from the gentleman I recently spoke to. Zero focus on customer service. Take away the gloss and the country accents and you are left with very dubious practices and curt and rude responses. It is very different before you have spent your money.

Beware when in effect buying blind, but in good faith. Goods not as described and may be incomplete and not working. When you complain the response will be a "shrug of the shoulders"

Condescending and superior attitude. As I say "wow", I was surprised with this from one individual but quickly realised it is part of the management culture. The support team "on the ground" are different and actually quite helpful.
Steer well clear!!! unethical practices.

DO NOT TRUST THE BRIGHTWELL BIDDING SYSTEM

Put in a bid for a Balvenie whisky and was told on the website that I was unsuccessful as it did not reach the vendors reserve. Then this morning totally out of the blue they send an invoice for my bid as no one bid the reserve. They are now trying to tell me that I am compelled to buy the whisky because it is in their terms and conditions!! I have contacted my solicitor.

Brightwells Classic Cars very helpful Emma, James & the gents'

Really helpful Emma and the gents', got the battery charged and tyre inflated ready on the vehicle after I called to state late on the train which prevented a wasted day & journey to get there. Emma- accounts also very patient whilst I arranged funds. James the seller's rep very helpful too. All worthy of 5-stars.

best avoided

rang them up to arrange to sell my defender The lady I spoke to was the most unhelpfull person I have ever come across. It was like she was playing a how can I make this more difficult game and decided that £2500 was the most I could possibly get for a defender so could not reserve it for more - not many Defenders going for £2,500 that I know of.

Be careful they bid up vehicles totally…

Be careful they bid up vehicles totally illegal. I have an email from them admitting it. I have also been informed that nobody locally buys from them. I took my vehicle there as I thought that even vehicles similar were not making their reserve they were still being bid up to a decent level little did I know the under bidders were Brightwells (I have an email admitting it when I said let it go at the last bid they said it was them bidding it up to the reserve) so I lost about £5,000 because of their illegal practises they are therefore ripping off vendors and buyers I have the email if anybody wishes to see it ? the joke is they sell police vehicles when they should be riding in the back of one.
