The purchase went smoothly

The purchase went smoothly. It arrived in plastic packaging. After purchase, I realised the price is exorbitant, not at all competitive even with other organic chamomile suppliers.

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your review, I’m sorry to hear you don’t think our prices are competitive.

We’re the first producer of British-grown organ chamomile tea and believe our prices are a fair reflection of the costs involved in growing and processing chamomile in the UK. We actually offer better value than other conventional British chamomile tea producers.

Other suppliers of organic chamomile tea typically source their products from Europe or Egypt where production costs are lower. Shipping chamomile from these countries to the UK increases its carbon footprint. When you buy our chamomile teas, you are buying a high-quality product that has been grown in the UK and certified organic by the Soil Association with the lowest food miles from field to cup.

Our products come in several packaging formats including glass jars and paper bags with a removable inner plastic lining. All our packaging has been designed for easy recycling. We are always reviewing our packaging to minimise plastic use.

Our packaging has to fulfil a number of functions including protecting the herbs from light and providing a barrier to oxygen, moisture and external contaminants. Our 50g, 100g and 250g bags consist of an outer paper bag (to exclude light) and an internal plastic bag (to provide a barrier). The outer paper bag can be recycled in your household paper collection and the inner plastic bag can be recycled with soft plastics at large supermarkets.

Tea companies that offer plastic-free packaging use industrially-compostable films to provide the barrier material. These materials need very specific conditions to break down completely and need to be disposed of with household food waste collections which aren’t yet available nationwide. Furthermore, industrially-compostable films can’t be disposed of in household compost bins because the temperatures needed for complete decomposition aren’t achieved. Without the conditions found in industrial composting systems, these films don’t break down entirely and leave behind microplastic particles. We have chosen not to adopt compostable films until the infrastructure for their disposal becomes more widespread so we aren’t contributing to the microplastics problem.

If you would like any further information about our products or packaging, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Great quality product

Great quality product. Fast service.
The freshness and flour of both the camomile and the sleep blend beats anything I’ve had previously. Pay a bit more and forget the bagged products you can buy, they pale into insignificance in comparison.

Good product but....

Great product, but too high on price (the bulk purchases are only slightly discounted) Also, the delivery is a bit slow by modern day standards.

I bought the sleep chamomile with…

I bought the sleep chamomile with lavender, passion fruit, lavender and valerian. Chose this company despite it being more expensive than other suppliers as I liked that the chamomile grown in Shropshire and that they had a sleep mixture. Too early to say really but the 2 nights I have used it my sleep has been better. It’s pleasant to drink and I am drinking half a small cup using, as recommended, 4g of product. Impressed with environmentally friendly outside packaging and tape but wonder why the product had to be in plastic bag with sellotape. Hence the 4 stars and not 5.

Hi Catharine,

Thanks for your feedback, we're so glad to hear you're enjoying our Sleep tea!

Our 50g and 250g teas are packed in an inner plastic bag to provide a barrier against contaminants and maintain the quality of our products during their journey to you. This can be separated from the outer paper bag and recycled with soft plastics at large supermarkets.

The outer paper bag is made entirely from paper, is not lined with polymer and can be recycled with your household paper collection. Using paper bags alone doesn't provide adequate protection against contaminants. We could use paper bags lined with a polymer to avoid the need for an inner plastic bag but these are difficult to recycle and contaminate the paper waste stream.

We would love to move away from plastic in our packaging and we're always on the look out for new types of packaging that help us do this.

If you would like any more information about our packaging or our products please don't hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The British Chamomile Company

A Great UK company

Easy to order from an inspiring and innovative great little UK company. I also received a very prompt and courteous response from the CEO of the company. It's so nice and rare, to be treated as an individual and not a number!
