While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Breach of parental trust

As a parent, my experience with Bigger Than Basketball (BTB) AAU basketball team was extremely disappointing.

I raised concerns regarding physical interactions between coaches and my minor daughter and explicitly requested that certain conduct stop. In my view, those concerns were not adequately addressed.

I also experienced significant communication issues, including exclusion from team communications and difficulty obtaining information regarding my daughter’s participation and activities.

When I attempted to address these concerns, I felt my concerns were dismissed rather than investigated. As a result, I have submitted formal complaints to the appropriate organizations and requested review of whether applicable athlete-protection policies were followed.

Parents considering any youth sports organization should ask questions about athlete-protection policies, parent communication procedures, reporting mechanisms, and how concerns are handled when raised.

This reflects my personal experience and opinions as a parent. Be critical of everyone who you give the privilege of access to your children. My experience involved coaches Byron Gipson, Eric Robles, and Paris Fuqua. I encourage parents to conduct their own due diligence, ask detailed questions, and carefully evaluate whether the organization’s practices align with their expectations for athlete safety, transparency, and accountability.
