Rocky Start Turned into Satisfied Customer

I want to give a huge shoutout to Mark Wyatt, Customer Support Specialist at BuildFire.

A few years ago, I had an app built through the company. The app itself was fine — pretty basic, nothing overly complicated — but unfortunately, my experience back then wasn’t the greatest. The rep I worked with at the time made even the smallest updates feel like a major upsell opportunity, and honestly, the attitude and communication were frustrating enough that I eventually stopped updating the app altogether. At one point, I didn’t even realize the app had gone offline for six months because of App Store compliance changes I hadn’t addressed.

Recently, as my business started evolving in a new direction, I decided it was time to revisit the app and bring it back to life. That’s when I got connected with Mark Wyatt — and he completely changed my perspective on the company.

Every single thing I’ve needed, Mark has been on top of immediately. He’s responsive, engaged, professional, and genuinely seems to care about making sure I’m satisfied instead of looking for ways to nickel-and-dime me. In today’s world, that kind of customer service stands out in a BIG way.

Because of Mark’s efforts, I’m now seriously considering upgrading my app and investing in a much more modern, high-end redesign to better represent my brand moving forward.

Long story short: BuildFire made a really smart hire with Mark Wyatt. He’s a great example of what real customer service is supposed to look like.

My Worst Business Experience Bar None

They tried to charge my credit card for three years after I had a block placed on my account. When I signed up I tried for an entire month to get customer support and got nothing but boy were they ever mad that I blocked their charge attempts. It got so bad my bank advised me to call the police which I did. Only then did they stop harassing me. I would advise avoiding this company in the extreme!!!!

Hi Gary,

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback - we’re truly sorry for the frustration this caused.

What you experienced is not representative of how we operate today. The company has been under new management since late 2024, and we’ve made significant improvements to our internal processes, billing controls, and customer support practices.

In this case, during a one-time payment system migration, your account was incorrectly marked as active, which triggered unintended charge attempts. Once this was identified, we ensured the billing activity was stopped.

We understand how upsetting this must have felt, and we take billing accuracy and communication extremely seriously. Additional safeguards have since been put in place to prevent this type of issue from happening again.

We believe this issue was fully resolved in February 2025 when it occurred, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at support@buildfire.com
if we can be of any further assistance.

Hi there -

Thank you for bringing this to our attention - we’re sorry for the concern this caused.

We want to be clear that we do not charge customers without an active subscription or authorization. Around this time, we were completing a one-time payment system migration, and in a small number of cases, accounts were incorrectly flagged in a way that triggered unintended billing activity.

We take this extremely seriously and have since implemented additional safeguards to prevent this from happening again.

If you feel there is anything still outstanding or would like to speak with someone on our leadership team directly, please reach out to support@buildfire.com and we will make sure the appropriate person follows up with you promptly.

Hi Avery,

Thank you for sharing this concern - we understand why that would be upsetting to see or suspect.

We want to be clear that Buildfire does not support or permit employees to post reviews representing themselves as customers. The company has been under new management since late 2024, and we’ve worked hard to strengthen our standards around transparency, customer trust, and ethical marketing practices.

Our focus today is on earning feedback through real customer outcomes and operating with significantly higher accountability than in past years. If you ever have questions or would like to speak with our team directly, please reach out to support@buildfire.com.

Terrible company. Dishonest. Fraudulent.

We built an app with Buildfire and 3/4 through the project realised that they couldn’t deliver on what they promised. Halfway through our project we lost our project manager, as they left the company… It took a month for someone to get back in contact with us again, so we could continue the project. As what was promised was not able to be delivered, we asked for a refund. The refund was denied and we lost $40,000 on an app that didn’t work. Do not trust this company. They are dishonest and their capabilities are not as they promise.

Hi Movement Monk,

Thank you for sharing this feedback - we’re sorry to hear how frustrating that experience was. Disruptions in account coverage and project continuity are not the standard we aim to deliver.

Since late 2024 Buildfire has been under new management, and the business has undergone significant operational changes, including improved customer support coverage, tighter project oversight, and stronger internal controls. The experience described does not reflect how the company operates today.

While we can’t address the specifics of a legacy engagement in a public forum, we appreciate the perspective and remain focused on delivering a much higher level of consistency and accountability moving forward.

Our minor daughter inadvertently purchased app - free trial language

I contacted Buildfire Software on November 21, 2023 when my minor daughter inadvertently purchased Buildfire Software. Within 24 hours of purchase, I left a voicemail and received a return call from a Buildfire employee, I explained the problem, and she was going to escalate to management. The problem being my minor daughter had made an unauthorized purchase of software that she did not understand, has no intent to use this software and was not able to understand the underlying terms and conditions that are masked under your offers of "free and no obligation" on your website, specifically:

There is no cost to develop on buildfire.js. Sign up for a free account, simply access SDK by signing up for a free developer account.

Buildfire will not return messages or calls and states no refunds on credit card dispute.

Since late 2024, the company has been under new management and we’ve strengthened our policies, billing clarity, and internal processes to prevent situations like this from occurring.

Please be aware that you can't cancel…

Please be aware that you can't cancel subscriptions once you've subscribed.

I am asking for a refund for almost two years, now.

Before our purchase we were in contact with Tony Pardo who ensured us, that we can cancel anytime – no cancellation period.

So we subscribed in September 2021, however as major features didn’t work as promised by Tony Pardo we cancelled the subscription by October.

Even though we had cancelled our subscription I October 2021 the amount of $1.047 was again withdrawn from our credit card in December 2021 for a new billing cycle.

We were then in contact with the customer service who told us, that they just recently set up a 30 day cancellation period. Which wasn’t the case when purchasing the service and being in contact with Tony Pardo, by the way.

Then we were in contact with Morgan Wright – who was “not seeing any communication that references a cancellation request”.

Now, the customer service is telling me, “Our policy clearly states that all purchases are non-refundable”.

Buildfire is finding ever new excuses, as soon as you have subscribed once you are stuck with the subscription forever.

Horrible company. Charged me 1900 (including tax) for annual plan I didn't want and then charged me 189 a month on top of it a month. WILL NOT REFUND OR FIX. I feel sick to my stomach. Customer service has been horrible.

Unethical and overpriced

Significantly overcharged for app which I later found out could have been built for 1/10th the cost elsewhere. Didn't provide me with a full working app as originally agreed upon. They agreed I wasn't provided with a full working app, then refused to finish the app, but also continued to charge me an extra $1,000 every 3 months. Definitely recommend avoiding this company. They are comfortable lying to you then driving up the price.

Hi Peter,

We’re sorry to read this and understand why you would feel disappointed. The experience you describe is not aligned with the standards we expect for project delivery or billing transparency.

Watch out, you cannot cancel your plan

It's a good builder to take the first steps toward this our own app.
Customer service is a mess and i guess they never heard anything about make and keep your customers happy. You cannot manage (or cancel) your plan in the backend.

My clients love the app!!

My clients love the app!!! COVID forced me to rethink my personal training business. I couldn’t train with people in person, so I originally used emails to send workouts…but that didn’t really work well for anyone. Fast forward to today…my app has been live for about a year and my clients LOVE IT! I use it to share workouts, videos, meal plans, everything…AND I can schedule appointments and collect deposits straight from the app. Thank you BuildFire!!!

Buildfire is a great idea and a terrible reality-- stay far away!

I've been very excited about the platform as the DIY aspect and general concept are excellent. The system takes a bit to learn but has huge flexibility. So why the 1 star? The company is a fiasco. In less than year, I've had 5 different project managers (read about them on Glassdoor and you'll see why they have this churn-- terrible work environment per Glassdoor). So ok, I can adapt to different people-- but after paying over 40k for contracts for custom work, the app is not useable because it keeps breaking. I had to stop selling my app because my customers complained about all the bugs and they are right. Buildfire is a great idea and a horrific reality. Stay far far away!! So now I'm going to try to see if I can find a reputable company and rebuild my entire app there.

Charged for 3 months after beginning 14-day trial

Not sure about the product itself, but customer service is not helpful. After signing up for my 14-day trial with the software, I was charged $567 the next day for 3 months of service and told It cannot be refunded. It had only been one day with the service where I thought I would have two week to decide if it would be able to do what I needed it to, but now I'm being told I cannot be refunded

So much promise, so little delivered

My 17th in house Buildfire contact was as useless as the 16 before. Limited app resources to build, horrible customer service, expensive and not a good investment. It started so well with a video welcoming me from the founder, but after they didn't deliver the app they promised, I took matter into my own hands and ended up uncovering that they basically don't know their own platform. Then they charged lots more for the service. I wasn't asking for the moon on a stick - I wanted the app to go from portrait to landscape - 3 years later still waiting. That's just one thing, don't even ask about pinch to expand. My app survived in spite of them not because of them.

Buildfire performs a great sales pitch

Buildfire performs a great sales pitch. But they don't deliver. For $5k, they promised a two month development of a subscription reservation app. At month three, literally not a single step was taken. Many excuses were given. They argued with the logo, the business model, the features and provided no project management, no development tracking, no phone numbers and no accountability. But they sang a good sales pitch, so two stars for the caliber of the con.

Buildfire is the most polite group of crooks you will find. Apparently, they couldn't even get a feature on their own platform to work the entire three months of my subscription. DO NOT BUILD YOUR APP WITH THEM!

Why did I not read the reviews before signing up?? What a complete waste of money, energy and time. They don't care about you or your business. They lie a lot and their communication is beyond poor. Too many technical issues and little is done to resolve it. You'll always get "we are looking into it" and then you won't hear from them again. Too expensive for what you get. DO NOT BUILD YOUR APP WITH THEM! You've been warned.
