Horrible Service

If I can give less than 1 star, I would definitely do. I lodged a claim and heard nothing back from them. I called more than once and I stayed on hold waiting for someone to answer for more than 20 minutes and at the end, the call just ended after being on the waiting for 20 mins. I sent 3 emails and one of them I added the Complaint team email and to my surprise, no one reached out. My car has been parked for 3 days not able to use. THIS IS NO WAY THE KIND OF SERVICE YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM YOU INSURANCE. Anyway, I cancelled my policy and never going to deal with them again. No matter how cheap the quote they might give you, my advice to anyone is NEVER USE BUPA CAR INSURANCE

Pushing a subjective social narrative on customers

Disappointed by Bupa's recent DEI-focused emails, using their platform to push their woke agenda . As a health fund, your communications should prioritise healthcare services – not divisive social agendas. Many customers expect neutrality; stick to coverage updates and wellness.

Bupa Burwood

I had the worst service I have ever experienced in any industry. An Indian staff member provided ambiguous answers and repeated himself. He refused to answer my questions and declined to provide the escalation email. When I questioned his explanation, he decided not to issue my refund, but Bupa should refund me!

bupa has discriminatory policy for overseas visitor. i took policy for my parents and they charged me over $650 for the month in advanced. as per their policy, first month premium is non-refundable. they hardly used the policy for first 3 days and then later we have decided to cancel. but when i called BUPA, i discovered that money is non-refundable. i am taking it back to office of ombudsman for further complain

Awful company, they don't reply to emails and each time it takes 20minutes on hold to connect to an operator on phone. Then they say I don't have any notes unfortunately let me connect you to another team and again 20 mins on hold.
You can cancel or change your plan only by this overwhelming calls which means they want to keep you there just by making you frustrated

Poor OSHC experience – Delayed claims and unfair rejectionl student insured by…

As an international student insured by Bupa under the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), I’ve had a very disappointing and frustrating experience.

I was admitted to Sunshine Hospital in April 2025 due to severe vomiting, dehydration, and loss of consciousness. I was treated with IV fluids and anti-nausea medication. Despite this, Bupa rejected my hospital claim, stating it was due to a pre-existing migraine — even though that was not the reason I sought medical attention.

To make things worse, Bupa is demanding an itemised invoice that the hospital has not provided, and I'm now being contacted by a debt collection agency (Recoveries Corp) for a bill of AUD $1,700. I’ve done my part, submitted medical documents, followed all steps, and now I’m left financially and emotionally stressed — all while Bupa continues to delay or deny support.

I’ve raised this with the Commonwealth Ombudsman, but felt it was important to share this experience publicly. International students deserve transparency, timely claims processing, and fair assessments — not additional stress during medical emergencies.

BUPA give you an umbrella and take it away when it’s raining!!

I had paid nearly £300 a month for my first year I BUPA -I didn’t have a claim during that time but towards the end of the year I rang to obtain their GP’s telephone number in my area as I had a problem… I was told I would have to pay an extra £20 for this service-I agreed I was given 4 different telephone numbers and one telephone no of a Gp an hour and half away
Not one of the numbers I was given had a Gp service except the one an hour and a half away !!
I did my own research and found a private Gp in my own city only 11/2 miles away -I opted to go to see the local Gp who told me he was registered with BUPA -but they had never sent anyone to him since he had been registered with them ….. it turned out to be an ulcer behind my knee -I paid to see the private Gp and subsequent visits costing me in all over £400
When it was all cleared up I approached BUPA FOR THEM TO RETURN MY PAYMENTS -which they refused to do — they offered me £50 in compensation which I refused- I sent them a number of emails but they wouldn’t accept responsibility…… therefore I haven’t rejoined

Totally disdainful and unhelpful.
Made a claim online and still no result and unhelpful staff.
Changed funds immediately after this contact. Never have received such poor service from other health funds.
The worst health fund that I've deLt with.

It was very difficult to get Bupa to pay a claim i was entitled to. When I went to relodge or dispute I would often go around in circles and need to relodge the same claim multiple times before they would honour the claim. On multiple occasions they would close the claim without responding to the dispute because I hadn't responded while waiting for bupa to reply in less than 24 hours.

Abysmal customer service

Abysmal customer service. Bupa transferred my limits from my past health insurer incorrectly (they did both 2024 and 2025 claims), leading me to incorrectly exceed my limits for the years. It took multiple phone calls, multiple following up on chats that either a) weren’t answered and b) with agents that didn’t read my message properly so giving me answers completely irrelevant to my problem. I ended up having to repeatedly contact Bupa to get it fixed where I was told I would receive an email, but in the end I was just randomly issued a $50 Bupa Optical voucher as their announcement of having fixed the issue and as a apology. If you have a question about literally anything to do with your insurance or extra limits, expect the chat to be useless at answers and never read or answer the question properly. The post chat survey also seems to purposely time out extremely shortly after the agent ends the chat so you can’t give your feedback. Joke

20/05/2025 I was waiting for 1hour+ on the phone. I asked the operator 12%discount and $100 gift voucher that was offered to my friend over the phone. Then the operator said this is not her department, she would transfer me to the relevant department. Then the line dropped out.

17/06/2025: I tried again through the APP via 'Message Us'. waiting for half hour on 17th June 2025. Type to the first operator whose name was Pauline with my enquiry. After half hour+, no news. Then got switched to Alicia, I types the same enquiry. Same thing no news. Then I got switched to Jo, finally someone sensible is able to look into my cover. I was on the app since 12:06pm to 3:03pm to have this resolved.

Almost impossible to get help

Almost impossible to get help, and the hospital and extras packages are inadequate. Be sure to read the Ts and Cs carefully before signing on with this group. Finally getting out; the dental extras forces you to use their providers or pay almost the full price.

Keep getting cut off just when it's my turn after waitning for 30-60 minutes! And this is not once. I've been experiencing this more than 5 times already! Could only get someone to help when I visited the branch (also after waiting). Please do something about your call centre system.
I'm now waiting again while writing this

Worst customer service

Worst customer service. I just want to find out about a remedial massage in my area. Unable to just send messages online. Get prompted to basically do all the work yourself, which gets 'me no results found'. I don't know what I am paying for, rarely use extras as can't find providers and BUPAs customer service is not helping.

I had a blood test at my doctor's request and the result showed high creatinine levels, so the doctor asked me to do it again with a urine test. I followed the doctor's instructions and did the tests, and now Bupa doesn't want to give me my money back, because I had to pay for the tests and made the claim, they don't want to give me my money back. They said I have a pre-existing problem, which was discussed with my doctor and she said that this is not a pre-existing disease. I asked for a report from Bupa stating that I have a pre-existing disease, because I don't know that. They never answered me again, I've been waiting for 2 months and I haven't been able to get in touch! It's disrespectful to their customer, and they want to keep our money at all costs!

bupa is a fraud

due to high cover cost I decided to move to another health provider,
I contacted Bupa via email and WhatsApp in order to cancel my cover but both advised me that I have to call Bupa directly for this,
for two days trying to contact Bupa over phone but as soon as selecting the number for cancellation they put you on hold for hours, eventually able to get in touch by pressing the number for new member registration in order to cancel my order which I did!

Pay me my eligible refund

I have moved to another insurance provider.
BUPA advised I MAY be eligible for a refund. Nothing else... no next steps... no ... we will work it out and send it to you... nothing...
It seems this refund now has to be initiated by me manually ... but... surprise surprise ... can't talk/chat/email/contact them...
This surely has to be as close to defrauding me of my eligible refund as a company could legally get.
The reason why I chose to leave...No customer service whatsoever.
