Great activity.
For anyone interested in a bit of history on the tragic eruption of Mt Tarawera, then this activity is a must.
The visit includes a museum which contains a wealth of information on the eruption and its devastating effects on neighbouring villages, including Te Wairoa, and their inhabitants.
One can also go for the extensive walk through what's left of the village, dug up from the layers of volcanic ash. This is not Pompeii but emotionally moving all the same. The track also takes visitors to a beautiful waterfall.
