Written by the company

Having been a Volkswagen enthusiast since watching Herbie at the age of 7, Managing Director Pete Morley’s fascination for these cars has played a large part of his adult life. The first Volkswagen Karmann Ghia he built was in 1996, and his first magazine feature car followed shortly after in 1998. Over the years, he has steadily increased his knowledge of the Karmann Ghia – and soon had a realisation that there were no companies that adequately catered for Karmann Ghia owners. And thus, an idea was born… We were established in 2015, out of a need for a UK Volkswagen Karmann Ghia presence. Frustrated with outsourcing metal fabrication, body & paint, parts supply and mechanical expertise, these crucial elements were combined under one roof, and Californian Classics was born. We employ a talented team of fabricators, paint technicians, master mechanics and parts experts, and have now emerged as Europe’s largest dedicated Karmann Ghia specialist. Each member of the team has been selected based not only on skills & knowledge, but also on passion, so you can rest assured that we will treat your pride & joy as if it were our own. So whether you are looking for a missing knob or wish to have your own Karmann Ghia restored, we are the place to come. Californian Classics, your one-stop Karmann Ghia shop

Complete Nightmare

Complete Nightmare.
Quick enough to take your money for parts showing as 'In Stock' only to find them not in stock and on backorder. They have your money for weeks before goods are supplied or you give up and end up with hassle.

In response to your review Alan, you do not to mention the numerous hours of help and advice given both on the telephone and by mail trying to assist with your build from the members of our team.
You were made aware in advance that the brakes ordered were not in stock and even though you have attempted fitment we provided you with a refund once our supplier accepted the returned goods, nor the fact that we supplied the correct components for your car and that your car has been incorrectly modified from factory specifications.
sometimes items go out of stock, we do our best to keep appropriate stock levels at all times however as a small company focussing on a niche vehicle occasionally the high level of service we aim to provide to our customers can fall short due to supply chain issues.

I would like to thank Pete Morley and…

I would like to thank Pete Morley and his fantastic team at Californian classics for transforming a pile of rusty scrap metal (Lacey) into one of the most beautiful cars I have seen and driven, what Pete and his team do is outstanding. The attention to detail is second to none, my car was only manufactured for around six months and has a few details very different from most Karmann Ghias which Pete researched to make my car the same as the day it came off the production line probably better ( Petes knowledge of these cars is outstanding). I couldn’t be more pleased, the car is absolutely fantastic in every way and for a 63 year old car the drive is the best, it looks amazing and drives the same. If anyone is looking to have their Karmann transformed then look no further than Californian classics, in my opinion the best out there and top blokes to boot.

Thumbs up

Pete was very helpful I bought some parts from him, he sourced the linkage to go with what I wanted and sourced me parts from the states that I required as an additional purchase nothing was to much trouble and good prices, I would definitely deal with him again
