I cannot recommend highly enough

I cannot recommend Gerald Pepin highly enough.
I am a dog professional and I sought Gerald’s expertise because I needed a clear, structured plan for my younger dog. While I have completed courses in canine nutrition and make a conscious effort to stay up to date, the field evolves rapidly—and with social media saturated with “miracle” products and conflicting advice, even those with knowledge can find it overwhelming.

From start to finish, Gerald was exceptional. He responded promptly, and within just a few emails we had arranged a phone consultation for the very next day.

What truly sets Gerald apart is not only his depth of knowledge, but his kindness and generosity with his time and advice. He took the time to listen carefully to all of my dog’s quirks, quickly understood the underlying issues, and provided thoughtful, practical options and solutions tailored to our situation.

Thanks to Gerald, I now have a clear, trustworthy plan of action—and most importantly, confidence in the path forward to support my dog’s health.

Thank you so much, Gerald!

Thank you so much Gerald

I was overwhelmed and anxious when I initially contacted Gerald about my Dog Derek who had awful gastrointestinal issues. Gerald was quick to respond to my initial enquiry even arranging my phone consultation for the very same day.
Gerald’s calm, knowledgable, methodical approach was a game changer for me and my poorly boy Derek.
The ongoing email support was invaluable.
I am so grateful to Gerald and his support. He gave me the confidence to do what was right for my boy. Feeding Derek fresh food and suitable supplements have made a huge improvement to his gastrointestinal issues.
I would not hesitate to use Gerald again.

Instrumental in my dogs recovery

I am very grateful for Geralds prompt and considered expertise. My dog had been very poorly and the vets had suggested steroids and or a biopsy. I felt he likely had gut damage from pain relief & antibiotics following a hospital stay with pancreatitis. I followed Geralds advice and my dog is making a wonderful recovery, naturally I couldn't be happier or more appreciative of his guidance.
Eternally grateful, great job Gerald.
Thank you so very much!

Gerald is very knowledgable

Gerald is very knowledgable, practical and loves dogs. He recommended a diet for my dog who was allergic to protein and after a couple of weeks my dog was loving his meals and had no adverse reactions such as sickness, vomiting or scratching. I am so pleased as the vet gave me no hope besides a lifetime on their Purina hypoallergenic food which my dog refused to eat.

I highly recommend Gerald

I highly recommend Gerald, my dog shammy is 17 years old, and he had alot of weight loss, wouldn’t eat was vomiting blood and blood in his stool. His vet wasn’t any help at all and he was in poor condition. Gerald recommend a home cook diet along with other natural products to help his gut and stool problems as he thought he had IBD. Shammy has been on home cooked diet for 5 months now he hasn’t been sick, he’s eatting every day, has gained weight back and his stool is back to normal. We got a new vet and they said he has pollen and food allergies and they are amazed at how well he’s doing. So just would like to thank Gerald as he was on hand to answer all my questions as it was overwhelming when starting out. And he still answers any questions I have today. He has a wealth of knowledge and I dread to think what would have happened if we didn’t turn to him for help.

Gave very bad advice which cost me a few hundred pounds to put right.
Suggested foods that are no good for epileptic dogs, forgot my dogs name.
When I informed him that my dog was getting worse he asked me what I was feeding him?
He should have known as he told me what to feed.
When challenged this man is rude and throws a complete tantrum.
Saying things only fail when people don't listen to his advice.
I listened to his advice and my dog became so ill I almost lost him
Advises me NOT to take my dog to a vet!!!
Awful, Rude man.
Dangerous advice.
And thinks he knows a lot more than he actually does.
NO ONE that is a professional will tell you to stop taking a dog to a vet.
And yes I have the emails of proof, which I will happily post for all to see as I know he will most likely try and defend or deny what he told me.
That email was regarding a scan.
How about the other emails????
Or recorded phone conversation???
Re dobbs yes emus are tortured for her products and yes met police did murder 2 innocent dogs.
But let's not deflect.
YOU forgot my dogs name. Forgot what you told me to feed him.
And you did tell me to stop taking him to the vets claiming and I quote ' vets cannot help your dog'
Where's that email Gerald, why are you not sharing that???
And do not dare say my dog had 6 years if this, my dog had an upset tummy. He dud ho yo the vet and I came to you for advice re food. Told you quite clearly he's epileptic and YOU advise foods high in glutamine which are not good for epileptic dogs.
No uou don't want to discuss that do you.
You are a fraud and anyone reading this needs to think twice about taking advice from you!
You are an awful man and in it for the money.
BELOW THE EMAIL IN WHICH YOU STATE STOP TAKING EDDIE TO THE VET. HES NOT EVEN CALLED

You need to stop taking Eddie to the vet. Vets are not trained in these matters. You need to get him off that awful commercial dog food and feed him proper food. He could be losing protein because of something like IBD (which vets can't fix by the way), or a food intolerance as I've already mentioned. Whatever it is, your vets don't have the answer.
By the way my dog IS NOW 100%better thanks to a TRAINED VET

Whenever I read such negative comments, I am reminded of something someone far more learned than I recently said at a seminar. "People are looking for someone to blame". In this case, someone to blame because he couldn't fix her dog in a week and undo 6 years of poor dietary choices.

As for me telling her not to take her dog to the vet, here is the actual email conversation.

Client said:
"I am supposed to be getting him scanned tomorrow but I really don't know if I should take him or not? I don't want to to stress him and make the situation worse."

I said:
"As mentioned when we spoke, I really don't see the point in having him scanned but only you can make that decision I'm afraid."

That is hardly me telling her not to go to the vet.

This person was in the veterinary industry. It is hardly surprising it didn't work out!

Her other Trustpilot reviews make interesting reading as well:

"She supports the torture of emus." (Her review of Margaret Dabbs Products).

"Emu tortured for Margaret Dabbs nail serum." (Her review of QVC).

"Dog murderers." (Her review of The Metropolitan Police).

Seems I got off fairly lightly!

Reflections on canine dietary advice

The initial phone call was useful as it gave information about nutrition and we were able to describe our dog in greater detail than the questionnaire. However a number of my emails immediately after that call, about Cassie, appeared to have been unread as no response was forthcoming. Weeks later I again tried to explain in an email how Cassie had fared on her improved diet and that she still had an ongoing problem, but the question was not addressed.

That is not actually correct. I responded to all emails promptly. My final email to the client suggested returning to the vet since I considered something else other than the original diagnosis was going on. I even gave a clue to what it was. I never received a response or update after that. If a client chooses not to keep me updated, there is little else I can do!

Good information and the recipes I bought seem practical and not too difficult to make.

They seem to have some good information to help get started cooking for your dogs. In hindsight it’s something I wish I’d done from a much younger age for mine. I’ve cooked some of the recipes I purchased with some minor adjustments to get my mini poodle to eat them. It is a little time consuming and I know and understand why it’s easier to buy complete foods. Perhaps it’s up to breeders to start their puppies off with more natural foods and explain the benefits to puppy buyers.

Disappointed and left worried

My 11 year old dog has (dormant) pancreatitis and I was looking for a safe way to transition her to home cooked food after a cancer removal. I was impressed by the website and professional appearance of The Canine Nutritionist. However, after about 2 weeks, the process kicked off a pancreatic flare up such that I had to halt it and go back on kibble. I was advised to use marshmallow root but I felt that fundamentally the process wasn’t working for her, and more was needed to stop the pancreatitis. I didn’t revert to The Canine Nutritionist because I didn’t feel as though this would be welcome. I accept This may be a disservice, but nevertheless, it was the way I felt.

Fortunately, I discovered another nutritionist online who identified that I had been transitioning my dog far too quickly and her food had contained far too many fats. She worked with me to make smaller changes over a longer period and I’m happy to say my dog has now completely transitioned onto homecooked but it has been done over a period of about 6 weeks instead of days.
She listened to my concerns, reacted promptly, liaised with me daily and worked closely with me, even asking me to send daily photos of my dogs faeces in order to monitor any changes. This is the level of prompt and high level support I needed but just didn’t receive from The Canine Nutritionist.
I also don’t use the synthetic supplements that were being recommended, using food changes instead. My dog has never looked healthier, is calmer and happier, has stopped eating grass daily and her faeces are much improved.
Note also egg should never be added to food that is to be frozen.
As such I would say he would be fine for a less complex dog but not for one with pancreatic issues. I felt the emphasis had been on the removed-cancer, and the pancreatitis, because it was dormant, was considered as less of an issue, when it shouldn’t have been as it’s a serious condition that never goes away. I was reluctant to leave a negative review, preferring to just move on, but felt it important to feedback in order for improvements to be made and most importantly to keep dogs safe. Plus I was chased twice for my review, so felt I ought to comment.

I note the client says "I didn't revert to The Canine Nutritionist because I didn't feel as though this would be welcome."

The process of healing a dog takes time and there are very often setbacks along the way. Every dog is an individual and what works for some dogs doesn't work for others.

This dog's problems were created by poor dietary choices over many years. The client clearly expected the outcome of those poor choices to be corrected immediately, and did not even let me know that there were issues with the new diet so that the necessary adjustments could be made.

I am pleased the client ultimately found a solution to her dog's problems. That's all any of us ever want. I would just have preferred that she let me know that changes needed to be made before going elsewhere and then endeavouring to ruin my reputation!

Cystine Stones Recipes & Feeding Guide

The publication we purchased/sold as being specific to dogs suffering from cystine stones. Being desperate to safely enhance our dogs diet and supplement the bland medicinal kibble with fresh foods we had hoped for a definitive list of foods.
Instead the book was rather generic in relation to what causes cystine stones and contradictory when it came to the dietary advice. I have no doubt that the suggested meals in the book are incredibly healthy and balanced for dogs with no underlying medical conditions, however they seemed unsuitable for dogs suffering from cystine stones.
Author is also very anti towards kibble type foods, medicinal or otherwise.
After reading the book I was more confused regards what to and more importantly what not to feed my pet to keep him healthy and free from stones.

Every animal nutritionist in the world is negative about kibble. Kibble is one of the main reasons today's dogs are living shorter, unhealthier lives than at any time in history. Unfortunately today, many pet parents feed their dog kibble and then look for someone else to blame when it becomes ill!

There is no such thing as 'medicinal kibble'. Kibble does not contain medicine. Kibble is kibble. Every brand of kibble uses essentially the same, highly processed, low quality ingredients that, once manufactured into dried dog biscuit, have virtually no nutritional value save for what is sprayed on afterwards. Hence the phrased coined by one highly regarded American holistic veterinarian, "cardboard with vitamins sprayed on."

As for any criticism of my guides, they are sold and used successfully all over the world as my many positive reviews both on Trustpilot and my website attest.

"Great advice for my pup with cystine stones. Bought the book. Again the advice in the book was fantastic. Pup had surgery in March had a recheck in early June and he is free of the stones!! Thanks for the information. Would recommend."

"I purchased the elimination diet recipe which was extremely detailed, clear and easy to follow. It was a fantastic price and really helpful too."

Sadly it seems, one cannot please everyone!

I had a wonderful experience

I had a wonderful experience, all my questions were answered promptly and I learned so much! My dog has had digestive problems all of his 7 years and now finally he's doing well. Gerald got to the source instead of treating the symptoms, which changed everything. I'm very grateful for his help and expertise.

New very happy Doggo!

We purchased the recipes to make our Chow Chow's food as balanced as we can with correct supplements he needs. Well, our fussy boy is now a foodie (which is a positive) we are training and food motivation is so important, he loves the Turkey/Beef mince bites and we train with these daily! His coat is getting fuller and shiny - it really really suits his system. Thank You
